Duped Again No longer a fan of Disney- Resolution page 6

did you check the refurbishements at Typhoon and Blizzard beach? We were told that Typhoon would be closed while we are there at Christmas time.

They both should be open on our trip. Hopefully they don't change those dates on us.

I am so hoping it will work out for you all who are wanting and needing a pool. Maybe they could just offer us old folks who do not swim a good rate at theSPORTS and let you younger folks have the pools? Win win as far as I see it.

They knew ages ago that the pools were going to be down and as they were down last year at the same time they may well have known for a year and should have advised folks when they booked IMO.

Keep on trying. Disney is pretty good and might well come up with something good for you. I hope, I hope!!

Yesterday was day 45 so I'm done trying. I sat down with my family last night and ask what they wanted to do and we decided to still go and thought we would spent some extra time at the water parks since the pools closed. My DS will not go on slides but I think he will enjoy the lazy river and wave pool.

I wrote my email Tuesday or Wednesday and was called by Gordon at Guest Services on Friday and told I was switched to Pop, I don't care for Pop so I told him to switch me back, Unless Music was available he said it wasn't, so I said switch me back to Sports. a few mins later he called back and said he got me into Music. We chatted and he said he loved Pop, He said no one have ever turned him down for Pop. I told him I didn't like that only 80's and 90's were considered standard and that the parking is not the best. I'm used to parking at AS where there is a ton of parking. Please contact them again. Don't expect and upgrade just a resort with a pool that is not closed. If you have to stay with Sports ask that they put in Baseball section where the quiet pool is. Plus those rooms have been refurb'd.

Hi!

POP has many more std rooms that just the 80's and 90's. :) Only parts of 50's, 60's and 70's are preferred and some of the non-preferred are very close to parking. Here is a map - thank you to WillCad - that shows the preferred areas of POP buildings.

Thanks for clarifying that. But still don't agree with over 25% of the resort being considered preferred. We've stayed at Pop about 6 times. First time we stayed preferred. Other times 3 times at 50's and 2 times at 70's. The last time we stayed 70's in a section that is now considered preferred and its just such a journey to get to the 70's parking lot. Since they won't take your luggage if you room is ready, carrying it to the room was no easy feat. A great thing about Disney is the resorts aren't all alike. I just prefer the parking at AllStars better. We tend to use our car more than not. :drive:

Mickey is the one getting over when people like me and everyone else that was in the Fantasia building are paying Holiday rate for a preferred room - and getting a view of the construction site as well as having to walk all the way to the back of the resort if they wanted to enjoy the pool.

Just look at what happened with AKL recently.
Disney will not release information until they absolutely have to, and they WILL lie to you on the phone.

I'm pretty sure a dispute of the "preferred" charges would have been successful, though the OP will never know since Disney finally came through for her.

As for swalke6's advice, I think it was spot on. No one was trying to "get one over on mickey." If Mickey charges for a service like a preferred location, they need to provide it.

OT is not taking one over on Disney. Ot paid for preferred room. A room near the pool. Disney took his money for preferred room and cannot deliver. Why Should OT have to pay for something he didn't get?

I agree - it is too much. We did wonder how long it would take them to make changes to the preferred rooms. In the beginning, many of the 60's were a further walk that some 50's and 70's rooms. I felt bad for the 60's guests who not only had a long trek to the food court, etc, but parking was sooo far!

We've always liked the far end of the 50's, buildings 2/3 - both an easy walk to parking and a few mins to food court/bus.

Have not yet stayed at an AS resort - the old rooms are too busy for me (all those stars make me dizzy LOL). Do love the lake at POP, but sure like the looks of all those palm trees at ASMU!! Might have to try it now that the rooms are redone....now...if only they would refurb the lobby!;)

Not anymore. They expanded on thier preferred rooms.

To the best of all information we have here at the DIS - the map you quoted in your reply is correct with regards to preferred rooms.

Not only that, but I've stayed in both non-preferred rooms in the 60's building as well as in the 50's buildings.. both this year.

Most recently, the 50's non-preferred room was awesome. Right beside the pool and about a 150 foot walk to the parking lot.

BaciBecky, I feel the same way. I like the location of the AS and all but the theming is too loud and dizzy for me too. I am seldom in the rood during daylight so I manage. Wonder if the colors and such do not keep the kids riled up though??

I guess since AllStars music was the first Disney resort I ever stayed at I'm bias. Though We've stayed at many others POR(kids begged me never again), WL, Poly, CR, and AKL. We always go back to AS. For a bldg thats close and not preferred @ ASsports Bldg 10 is awesome plus it has a shortcut to the buses. Love it. Though we do tend to drive more often. For awhile there everytime we got to the bus stop the bus had just left, I thought I was cursed  :scared1: Plus we love riding on the Monorail. Funny story. My daughter is going with her husband next month and couldn't get a Fl rate for any of the values so they are staying at CS. She is very upset by it. I told her we (DD14 and I) ate there before and it looked like a great resort. She's still trying to talk her husband into going to a Deluxe but so far he isn't biting. They are never at the resort. They spend all day in the parks, go back to the room to shower and then off to DTD & Pleasure Island. Aww to be young again. LOL and I'm only 41. :hippie: :rotfl2:

DisneyWisher, that is our favorite too. Who cares if I have a view of the trash containers! It is an easy walk to the bus stop, parking lot and the back door to the Food Court. What more could decrepit folks like us want or folks with small children. I cannot think of a fantastic view at the AS any old way. For a view or romance POR is it!!

Hi,Sally ~ did you have a moment to check out the map? It is correct and up to date. :flower3:

I was going by the map Guest Services showed me at the resort. I've looked at the map on this site, but I don't know where a map is that shows the preferred/non preferred. In Oct 2005 we stayed at POP in the 70s as a non preferred. Sept 2006, we stayed in the 50's as a preferred. The 70s room was much better. I thought there was a mistake and went to guest services. I was told that they just expanded the preferred rooms and he showed me the map. The rooms along the outside ring were the non preferred, all the others are the preferred. So, if you were in the last 50s building, on the pool side, you were preferred, but the parking lot side was non preferred. The rooms along memory walk, were non preferred, but the inside rooms were preferred.

So now we are giving advice on how to get free items.

I can speak from experience that when a customer says " I am going to write a letter." it is of no threat to me and my job. They are more then welcome to write, I just ask that they reference our conversation and get my name spelled right. In addition, asking for higher up isn't a sure thing anyway. I normally will not let it get past me and give them additional names. It is of no use since the situation will come right back to me to resolve when the letter is written or I am consulted on the issue.

Keeping calm is important.

Also, with construction it is just that. Planned or not, there is no dispute that you can do with a CC company to get the money back. Anyone can cancel their vacation whenever they want to do so. It is a valid option they have. Using that is a non threat. You cancel and Disney will have another person to fill the room.

I feel that the DisBoards have now become more of a place to share how to "get one over on mickey" instead of being a place to share how to have fun at WDW.

This advice was not "how to get free stuff" it was how to properly handle a dispute if they could not come to a satisfactory resolution. If you read the post you'd notice that I advised cancelling or disputing the situation before the trip occurs so there would be ample time for resolution & because you can't take the trip & then try to get out of paying for it.
