Last year, I drove from Atlanta to WDW overnight and was extremely tired when I got there. I was there at around 7:30AM. We went to the parks, but I left the parks at around 2:30PM to get in a room and get some sleep and a shower.
3:30 came around and no room. 4:30PM came around and no room. I was sleeping in the lobby. Around 5PM, I had my little fit and got a room. I showered, slept, and went back and had my fun.
Part of my rant was that I was very tired and confused. And that day must have been a bad day for them. But it doesn't happen all the time, and I have had worse experiences in hotels with twice the rate that I was staying while at WDW.
So get some rest. Relax, and don't let minor setbacks ruin your vacation experience.
I hate to post again as I feel I've said so much. But, again, I really don't think that this is about entitlement or fairness. Disney is a for profit corporation. We all understand that. Magic aside. And to this particular family a pool is extremely important. They made that clear from the beginning.
If you were staying at a resort & got a letter that said no buses would be stopping there for the duration of your stay but you could walk to another resort & use their buses, how would you feel? Or whatever it is that makes you choose the resort you choose. You could always rent a car, or walk the 15 minutes to a neighbor resort for the bus, what's the big idea? It matters because you planned your whole vacation around that bus picking you up at YOUR resort.
Of course Disney doesn't "owe" them anything. But if the OP decides that Disney saying "It will be open" and then taking their money, then saying "It won't be" will ruin their vacation then the OP has a right to say, "This is important to me, give me my money back or make this right." Disney doesn't have to. And the OP doesn't have to go to Disney.
But in this particular case with these particular needs, if I were Disney I would like the opportunity to make this right & keep this family as a loyal customer. It would be so simple & then this family would tell everyone they knew how Disney had made it right & Disney would get a loyal customer spreading word of mouth of how great Disney is.
Uh oh. Then you’re not necessarily gonna be thrilled with the news that 60% of All Star Movies is “Preferred” and that having a room with that designation doesn’t necessarily put you particularly close to the pool.pinkerbell said:When I posted we had been moved to ASMo, I was not sure if we had been moved to another prefered room or not. I was just so excited to be back at a resort with all pools fully operational I was happy. I did get online and check our reservation and sure enough, we are at ASMo in a preferred location!!!
Well, yeah, they would. You’re the family of four from Massachusetts who were supposed to check in to a Preferred room at the All Star Sports on a specific date for X number of nights in September but who will now be staying at the All Star Movies on those same dates.Wow, just before I read this post my husband was wondering if people watch this board from dis, but as he said they would really have no way of knowing who I am. I am just so thrilled.
Maybe – but getting something in the mail (i.e. in writing, as solid proof, vs. a phone call which could be misstated or misunderstood), really makes sense. And it’s a heck of a lot better than NOT getting notified.I would be devasted to find out the pool was being refurbished and would be closed if it were me. I just have a feeling that guests should have been notified by phone (call me crazy) but to get something in the mail, would really peeve me.
You realize that it would take longer to get on and off that shuttle than it would to just walk to the resort next door, right? And even if it didn’t, the walk is a LOT less than twenty minutes - even with a double stroller loaded down with pool stuffAnd I wouldn't want to have to walk to ASMusic or ASMovies to have a pool. They should provide shuttles every 20 minutes.
knox,
perhaps you can revise the title to say "RESOLUTION PAGE 6 (or whatever)" for future readers...

Why wouldn't I be thrilled to know that the design of this resort is one that allows a larger % of the bldgs to be in close proximity to the pool. That sounds wonderful!!! The more people that can enjoy an easy walk to them, the better...
Per this post, I called WDW GS today and was moved without a problem to POP. We stayed at POP two years ago and it was just fine. I was happy with the ease of switching the reservation.
Cheers!
What an excellent idea.

I also edited the first post to indicate that posts 90 and 107 have the resolution.. which I will say was swift and an absolute 100% improvement over tha handeling of this issue last yr.
I am just hopeful that others on these boards are able to see the pool is closed and can try to make adjustment as well.
Last year I did not get my letter until the end of August for my September arrival, so I will also say that this year the timelimes of the notification was better![]()
I'm glad things have worked out for others. I still have not been able to switch and have done exactly what they have done. I didn't even get a letter telling me the pool was going to be closed for our entire stay now. I am even considering canceling now. I have a DS that hates rides and the only way we can have a enjoyable trip with him is swimming A LOT so the pool is very mportant to us. At first I tried to stay positive about this and now I'm getting very dicouraged.![]()
First off Sports is our home away from home and we are headed back soon. I knew the pool was going to be down when I booked. No problems as we do not use the pool and I figured that fewer people would want to book in if there was no main pool. Worked for us!!
The pool was down last year too and I saw a lot of disappointed and angry folks. I do not blame them one bit. Motels charge more if they have a pool and having a pool in Florida is more of a necessity than a luxury and if I paid for one and did not get one I would be miffed too.
BTW, Touchdown is not preferred and is just as close to everything, and closer to the bus stops, than Surf's Up.
I truly believe that Disney should offer guests some sort of discount or something if a major reconstruction (pool, food court etc.) is going to be going on during their stay. You should not have to pay full price for partial service.
Last but not least, it pays to be a DISer and learn this stuff before we get there.

I am so sorry to hear it has not worked out for you. Hopefully since yur post it has. If not don't give up... You can get switched.. just try to stay focused and keep asking to go higher up the chain, also send an email or letter.. please let me knowhow you make out
Yesterday was day 45 so I'm done trying. I sat down with my family last night and ask what they wanted to do and we decided to still go and thought we would spent some extra time at the water parks since the pools closed. My DS will not go on slides but I think he will enjoy the lazy river and wave pool.
