DTD - avoid it!

FYI-if you park on the Marketplace side....leave yourself plenty of time to get back out. We left the Earl around 3:15 and didn't exit the parking lot until 3:55. We had a 5:25 flight from MCO and I thought my husband was going to stroke out right there waiting in line to exit! Apparently this won't be a problem by December, but for now...

That stinks--but you left wayyyyy too late. That likely would have been a problem even in Perfect conditions given suggested arrival time at the airport is around 2 hours before flight time. I would have left no later than 2:30 max. And with the same scenario as you--I would have still been panicking. Because I still would be at Disney 2 hours before my flight ( of exiting parking lot until 3:10).

And I have seen ugly lines at check in AND ugly lines at security. If checking in means depending upon the good graces of being moved ahead in line, then one has arrived far too late. (We lived in Florida for many years and just returned and MCO is the airport we always fly out of. I arrived one time with security snaking through the stopped moving sidewalks. :scared1: happened just once, but I remembered that for all future flight.)

No seriously, everyone needs to stay away from DTD. Do not go! I mean it.

Well, just don't go from December 14th through 19th. That is when we will be down and I would like it to be fairly empty and easy to park. After that go all you want. :rotfl:

If I yell, 'Okay, people, stay in the parks, do not attempt to visit DTD, the parking lot is ugly', do you think I'll be able to find a table at Earl of Sandwich?! ;)

It's a multistorey car park! What are people expecting, giant character statues everywhere and balloons?

parking was a huge issue so I'm glad they are getting more spaces. Mid construction period always sucks but it should be nice once done

Yeah, well...we get a little spoiled flying in and out of GRR. So, we didn't leave enough time, but I had looked on the navigation and it was only 22 minutes to the airport, so I figured we'd be there shortly after 3:30. But, we had to stop and get gas, too. The rental car was supposed to be back by 4pm since we had picked it up at 4pm the Thursday before.

So, we finally get out of the parking lot and he goes right past the Hess at $2.76 a gallon or whatever it was. I again look at the navigation on my phone and say, "there's a Mobile station around the corner on your right." Only gas was like $4.76 a gallon or something like that. So, he stormed out of that lot and drove like a bat out of somewhere towards the airport. Fuming and steaming and me saying, "We don't need a speeding ticket on the way to the airport." (Not helpful or therapeutic, at all :)) Get to the airport-again looking for a gas station-closest one is 1.1 miles away-had a one star rating-should have been my first clue. Anyway, missed the turn, have to drive around the airport and make a u-turn in the cell phone area. Husband has about lost it....get to the gas station and gas was.....$5.94 a gallon. Furiouser and furiouser, DH kicks the tires and is filling up with gas muttering and swearing under his breath. I finally log into the SW app to find that our flight has been delayed 90 minutes! Should have checked that while still at DTD, huh?!

So, we arrived at the airport by 4:15. Car checked in by Alamo and no overage charges have showed up yet.... Plenty of time to get through security and enjoy our Earl of Sandwich wraps-delicious and highly recommended :rotfl:

That is my parking story, and it was an awful way to end our Disney trip-time to head back for a do-over, I say!

I have rented 25 plus times over the years, almost all at National/Alamo. I always fill up at that Hess by DtD, or the one by the BW. Always the least expensive in the area, never crowded and always satisfies the rental companies for returning with a full tank.

re- my question above...I broke the Dis rule didn't do a search for threads or open the link for info :rotfl2: so I found my own answer. Parking at Marketplace is still available until Dec 1, I better get my butt in gear this weekend. Now does anyone know off the top of their head the hours for the stores on the Marketplace side ? In particular the pin store ? Please don't make me do a search ;)

Parking directly in front of World of Disney is currently valet. The parking on the other side of the Marketplace is still available, but is usually full by mid-morning. The best place to park, if you don't want to try the new parking structure, is on the Westside on the far side of Cirque.

When you say, " The other side of the Marketplace " can I pull in and make that immediate right so that when I walk up the path I'm near Once Upon a Toy, Pin Traders, EOS ?

Have no desire to go over to the Westside, I want to get in/get out asap. First thing tomorrow morning probably. Thanks for grabbing my question.

You cannot turn in at the Marketplace entrance at all. It is totally blocked by road construction. You can turn in at the entrance across from the Hess station and drive up to the parking lot near Once Upon A Toy, but that lot fills up by mid morning.

You can valet park in the lot in front of World of Disney, but it will cost you $15 to $20 depending on how on long you are parked.

Thanks ! This is exactly where I was trying to describe but obviously wasn't painting the word picture accurately. I may not get there today, most likely tomorrow, but yes I know to get there first thing.

I just love this board, pages of posts about a parking garage but still good information to be found about gas prices at Hess.

I remember reading that the parking garage is going to be made to look like an Orange Packing Plant. So the parking garage will be carrying on the theme of Disney Springs. It's just not finished yet.

Does anyone else remember reading about this? I can't seem to find the concept art anywhere.

We just got back last night. DTD was fine.:confused3 A little crowded on weekends, but that's to be expected.

I like to see construction and work being done at the parks and elsewhere on property. It means they aren't staying stagnant.

I can just see us on a future trip.

Did we park in "cluster you-know-what" garage or "blight/eyesore" garage ? I have a picture so I know it was space 67 on level three, but I can't remember which garage. ;) :stir: :car:
