DTD - avoid it!

I was always surprised when people complained that DTD didn't have enough parking. The lot to the far left as you face DTD by Circus tent had grass growing up through cracks in the pavement because nobody ever parked there except me apparently. It seems like the complaint was they didn't have enough convenient parking (lazy:duck:), rather than they didn't have enough parking.

I agree the parking garage is an eyesore. I'm not sure why they didn't build it behind La Nuba. That parking lot is out of the way and a parking garage wouldn't have blocked the view of Disney Springs from the street. Probably because people are pure lazy and can't walk a few extra yards. :faint:

I have seen sketches of the finished project and it looks beautiful. It's just going through growing pains.

I plan on taking the bus from my resort, enjoying our dinner, and ducking into a few stores. I don't get to Disney often. I might never get to go again, and I missed going here last trip in 2007. So, um, I'm going. lol

Unless all stores are closed during the construction of this parking garage, why would one stay away? I understand construction is a hot mess but it is what it is.

Going in a few weeks and DTD is definitely on our agenda :thumbsup2

Now, my husband and his family are from Detroit (Warren to be exact) and I'm from Chicago originally. I know exactly what blight looks like - Cabrini Greens, the UIC campus, inner city Chicago and the interstates. Especially since Chicago has two seasons - construction and winter. And that's exactly what this looks like to me. Hopefully this will all resolve itself, but for the interim, I say avoid it for now and go somewhere else for your upcoming visits.

I don't get this. It's not blight, Detroit, inner city Chicago, the projects or run down. It's a brand new parking garage that looks like any other parking garage. Sure I get that people wish Disney would have dressed it up a bit just because it's Disney (remember it's the new tightwad Disney we are talking about that just spent more than a billion bucks on MDX and bands)

I was hoping for an Avatar-themed garage that offered fastpass + for parking spots. :D

This! But, only if I have to stay up to 3am, 90 days before to get them. I won't settle for anything else! :cool1:

Seriously? We're discussing a parking garage's lack of THEMING. It's a parking garage. Park your car and pretend you're surrounded by the inhabitants of Radiator Springs.

We took disney transportation to downtown last week and it's fine being there during the construction once you are past the parking area.

And just when you think people have complained about everything possible, we have this thread. :joker:

I was at DTD just a few weeks ago. It is a mess sure, but I wouldn't say don't go, stay away! Go, but give yourself extra time if you are heading to an ADR, or a movie. But to complain about the lack of themeing on a parking garage, and tell everyone to stay away? That is kind of crazy.

exactly what I thought when I read the post, except didn't think of the cars part. Yes its a pain to be surrounded by construction but oh well.

I'm sure the garage is many things, but I think the OP's use of the word "blight" is improper.

I'm from Detroit. We know what blight is here. It's not a parking garage.

Yes your definition of blight depends on where you come from. In Seattle any large surface parking lot is considered blight. Just more space for evil cars.

FYI-if you park on the Marketplace side....leave yourself plenty of time to get back out. We left the Earl around 3:15 and didn't exit the parking lot until 3:55. We had a 5:25 flight from MCO and I thought my husband was going to stroke out right there waiting in line to exit! Apparently this won't be a problem by December, but for now...

I want that AND for it to glitch the moment I start to arrange the FastParkingPasses+, then start working again 46 seconds after I fall back to sleep.

I'm thinking of hyperventilating just READING about that experience. I'm so glad you (I assume) made your flight!

I agree with what Bumbershoot said above. I don't know how you made your flight, on second thought don't tell us. :faint:
