Hey all! I'm back from yet another business trip (to Albany) and now it's just a countdown to our WDW trip next week and to hang out with Hadley and her crew.
Now a few random thoughts that popped into my head as I read the six or seven pages I had to catch up on:
Congrats on your parts, Hadley and Dave!
Happy belated birthday LuvtheEars!
Welcome to our new cruisers!
Jason and I are going to have to start our own group or club because we dont' drink OR read for fun (except Harry Potter books, which don't count...and which don't matter anymore because there will never be another one!
)!!
Regarding Logos:
I actually like almost all of them except I'm partial to the ones withOUT actual photo images (like the boats on the one and the ice cream cones on the other). I am partial to the ones that look more like artwork.
I also agree with Hadley. Number 4 is my favorite as it contains some of the elements we all seem to like. It has the ice cream cone, which is clearly an icon we all seem to like. It is on the treasure map scroll, which we all like. I also agree with Hadley that, as I said before, if we want to use a site like cafepress to be able to print Tshirts (and other merchandise) that our DISgroup can order online, then we are going to have to remove the copyrighted images (like pictures of Mickey Mouse or other licensed Disney characters and even the word "disney" cannot appear on it). We can, indeed get away with a mock-up of a mickey ears hat on an ice cream cone or something.
So---here are some thoughts. Obviously I think the whole group should decide what logo or image we like best.....but if
ERIK
were going to put his opinion out there.....here's what I'd recommend
:
1.) no actual photos
2.) use the treasure map scroll as background
3.) use the Ice Cream theme
4.) I like the idea of mapping out our itinerary...but I really like doing it symbollically (like it is in image 4) rather than trying to actually put a map of the Caribbean in the logo.
One thing we want to remember is that if we want to use this logo on our lanyard name badges and still have room to put names and DIS screen-names on them...then the image is going to be printed in a space that is just under 3" wide and just over 3" tall. Also if we use cafepress then people might choose large applications of the image (like a shirt) or small applications like a magnet or a hat or a mug. In that case it might hurt the image to mkae it too small---the more small details and words and stuff that is on there, the harder it will be to actually make it out. So we'd be better to design a logo that is more graphic and colorful than one that has lots of small detail (like that Mouse Lounge logo is FAAAABULOUS! and would reproduce anywhere).
That's just my two cents! The great thing about how active everyone is in the group and the fact that we still have over a year is that we have tons of time to think up a great logo!!
