Hey all! I'm back from yet another business trip (to Albany) and now it's just a countdown to our WDW trip next week and to hang out with Hadley and her crew.

Now a few random thoughts that popped into my head as I read the six or seven pages I had to catch up on:

Congrats on your parts, Hadley and Dave! :thumbsup2
Happy belated birthday LuvtheEars!
Welcome to our new cruisers!:welcome:
Jason and I are going to have to start our own group or club because we dont' drink OR read for fun (except Harry Potter books, which don't count...and which don't matter anymore because there will never be another one! )!! :lmao:

Regarding Logos:

I actually like almost all of them except I'm partial to the ones withOUT actual photo images (like the boats on the one and the ice cream cones on the other). I am partial to the ones that look more like artwork.

I also agree with Hadley. Number 4 is my favorite as it contains some of the elements we all seem to like. It has the ice cream cone, which is clearly an icon we all seem to like. It is on the treasure map scroll, which we all like. I also agree with Hadley that, as I said before, if we want to use a site like cafepress to be able to print Tshirts (and other merchandise) that our DISgroup can order online, then we are going to have to remove the copyrighted images (like pictures of Mickey Mouse or other licensed Disney characters and even the word "disney" cannot appear on it). We can, indeed get away with a mock-up of a mickey ears hat on an ice cream cone or something.

So---here are some thoughts. Obviously I think the whole group should decide what logo or image we like best.....but if :tigger:ERIK :tigger: were going to put his opinion out there.....here's what I'd recommend :lmao: :

1.) no actual photos
2.) use the treasure map scroll as background
3.) use the Ice Cream theme
4.) I like the idea of mapping out our itinerary...but I really like doing it symbollically (like it is in image 4) rather than trying to actually put a map of the Caribbean in the logo.

One thing we want to remember is that if we want to use this logo on our lanyard name badges and still have room to put names and DIS screen-names on them...then the image is going to be printed in a space that is just under 3" wide and just over 3" tall. Also if we use cafepress then people might choose large applications of the image (like a shirt) or small applications like a magnet or a hat or a mug. In that case it might hurt the image to mkae it too small---the more small details and words and stuff that is on there, the harder it will be to actually make it out. So we'd be better to design a logo that is more graphic and colorful than one that has lots of small detail (like that Mouse Lounge logo is FAAAABULOUS! and would reproduce anywhere).

That's just my two cents! The great thing about how active everyone is in the group and the fact that we still have over a year is that we have tons of time to think up a great logo!!

Okay I am rushing off to the read through, but DITTO to EVERYTHING Erik just posted about the logo (we think way too much alike, but he expresses his thoguths so much better than I do mine:) )

We will join in a race with you!! Right now I am watching CMT 40 greatest NASCAR moments. They just showed Adam Petty sniff sniff. Living in this area, it's pretty hard not to get interested in it!!! Hopefully when we cruise they will be showing the races on ESPN and actually broadcasting it on the ship!

Woohoo! Finally got a taker. :woohoo:
Ah, Adam Petty. Such a sad story. I don't know how his mom & dad have gone on from his passing on. But gone on they have. Kyle lives just down the road from my mom & dad - very nice farm he lives on.

I agree w/you that Kyle did a nice job of announcing when he was at the helm for a few races. I especially liked his interview w/his dad - very nice touch.

Hadley:
Congrats on getting parts!! Wonderful. Have fun w/all the dancing. :) If you can fit it into the busy schedule - watch 'Dancing w/the Stars' for inspiration. hehe

Tiffany:
Woohoo! I know you're excited about those passports. :cloud9: Guess no more stalking the mailman. (That's kinda how we were when we were waiting to get Emmie's referral info/pic from UPS.)

Yeah, I wouldn't pack everything yet. DH knows there's a trip coming, but the snorkles might give it away.

Jason and I are going to have to start our own group or club because we dont' drink OR read for fun

Aw, Erik. You & Jason can join us watching the race on Sunday! :thumbsup2 Its a fun time waiting for the 'big one' to happen. Translation: we're vultures hanging out just waiting for a wreck. popcorn::

I want this on a shirt!! :rotfl: LOVE IT!!!

Drea, you are so talented!!!!! :worship:

I cant take ANY credit.. I found this one on the web and the logo other people on the creative thread have done for us..... I WISH I was that creative.

Perhaps.......but you DID put it all together. :goodvibes

I still want to use that one in some shape or fashion. :)

Wow, packing already? Amazing! So glad you got your passport so quick.

I wonder what the dining room people would say if we got a 1.5 liter bottle? Twice the size, same corkage fee??

I don't know about the 1.5 liter bottle, but I like the box idea myself! :rotfl:

I'm packing for my Oct. 4th - 3 day on the Wonder with DH, but I have been stashing things in a basket for this cruise too. Does that count as packing?:rolleyes1

Dang - every time I think I've caught up and post a reply I find that I am still 10 posts behind. :lmao:

I am with Eric and Hadley with the logo, but I don't want to wait a year to be able to put it in my siggie! OK - I'm a little green with envy at those who were able to score staterooms on either of the canal repos. One day my canal crossing dream will come true too!:flower3:

I have to say though I am finding that this is the best group of fellow cruisers I could wish for and can't wait to meet all of you in person! :thumbsup2

Hadley - Congratulations on your parts!

Kimberly - If you end up stranded in NC and have your computer - PM me and head north to my house. I'm only an hour of so from Fayetteville. :)

Please have a safe and fun holiday, everyone!!!

My apologies in advance for the long post here...I had a lot to catch up on!

 Awe...thank you so much...you're so sweet, Tiffany! The laptop will be in tow, but I thankfully will not have to take you up on your invite (whew). I've been so busy this week that I don't recall if I posted that we did secure a room Tuesday night. He truly didn't realize how much anxiety he was giving me by waiting!! It's the whole idea of it being a holiday weekend that concerned me...otherwise, I'm good with spontaneous trips! I survived though! I did show him the supporting postings on here and the appreciation of you all for my OCD vacation planning. He was cracking up at me/us! I don't think he'll do that to me again!! :rotfl2:

OK I had a few more submissions from people I asked help from. Im going to list them all together any if you want to list what we should take from, add too, put elsewhere etc let me know!
and from others
Logo-1.jpg

This is my favorite of those I've seen thoughout the life of this thread! Thanks so much, Drea, for working with all the creative people over there on the "Creative" thread.

Are there any other lurkers out there that are thinking about coming up with something? Personally, I would love to see us all vote via a poll on our logo in the coming weeks!! It will certainly distinguish us from others. :)

......However, coconut rum, Butterscotch shnapps, and pineapple juice IS a good combination

Oh Brandie! YUMMY!!! Butterscotch Schnapps is the primary ingredient to one of my most favorite drinks that also uses Bailey's. It's called a buttery n****** (you'll have to look that one up as the "fill-in-the-blank" contains adult content). Do you mind sharing the proportions to your new concoction that tickled your taste buds?

.....the bartending crew will be under this one
untitled1-1.jpg

Oh! No doubt The Mouse Lounge sign has to go on the door of cabin 6080, the party room!!! :lmao: Did you hear that, Tammie?!!! :rotfl:

We all four did our vocal audtions for Pippin tonight:scared: .... We are hoping to get ANY parts at all. So, if you'd like to send pixie dust this way we'd appreciate it:goodvibes

:woohoo: Woo Hoo!! :woohoo: Congrats to you and Dave for getting the parts!

Great to see ya out here, Erik! I hope all of you have a wonderful trip!!

Kimberly:
Caution. If you take Tiffany up on the offer, beware of her 'killer' little dog, Mindy. She'll lick ya to death! :rotfl:
Seriously, she's a sweet little thing.

:rotfl2: Thanks! I'll remember to pack some biscuits to give me a break!

have a safe & fun trip, Kimberly. You're in luck, I think the temperatures here are taking a bit of a break from the high 90s-100s we've been having recently. :) Your timing is good.

Thank you! You're reading my mind! I was just about to go to weather.com! That's great news!

last I saw, I think the temps were forecast for mid/high 80s. Don't quote me on that though - I'd still check around just to be sure. :) One of the local tv stations is: www.wral.com

Yes! That counts!
Last night my husband was snickering at me because I started packing for a trip in a corner of the LR. We are going away this weekend for pity sake!!! I told him about you. Nuff said!:thumbsup2

Have you ever tried the Corbet Canyon box-O-wine? That stuff is pretty good!

So, you may all recall that we leave in the morning for two weeks of traveling. The first week is in Detroit and is work for David but vacation for the kids and I. The second week is pure vacation and enjoy friends and family at WDW.

So, Dave went in this morning and was informed he is being replaced:eek: The good news is the company does want to retain him and is already looking at other places for him to be. He was able to get a hold of a colleague in Germany who has wanted to have us over there but his boss had not wanted us to go (no longer and issue). So he is not unemployed :thumbsup2 and there are options (and if Germany happens that would be fantastic:banana: )--some better than others. The idea is he does do Detroit next week (and thank goodness we will both be at the big to-do on Thursday to schmooze all the right people;) ) and we do go on vacation and then he will work with the replacement (a guy he can't stand by the way, but then again he cannot stand the man who was brought in as his boss 15 months ago either so they will be a good fit with one another and in the end it will be good for David to get away from these people while remaining with the compnay he likes overall) for 2-3 weeks when we get back before starting something new (Germany if we are lucky, maybe Iowa, who knows where?).

Needless to say it is unsettling news right before we leave. It will be hard to really relax and enjoy the trip with this in the back of my mind. Hey Erica, want to come by and mix me up a drink? Actaully it could be much worse. David was liad off in the post 9/11 downward economic spiral only 5 days before our 2001 WDW trip. He was given no severance pay (no one was and there were a lot of people laid off that day) and the job prospects at the time were bleak. Compared to that this is a piece of cake.

I haven't said anything to the kids yet. We have to tell them before Monday because we will be around a lot of company people and it WILL come up in conversation. But, Marika does not handle not knowing what will happen well and I am far too shaken myself right now to be the calm and strong one when they are shocked and worried.

So Erik, if we can swing Germany will you and Jsaon come visit us? You could get in a visit to both us and your brotehr all in one trip:)

I apologize for the rambling but I had to tell SOMEONE and I forgot to ask David if it is public knowledge at the plant (small town, big compnay if it is not I cannot talk to anyone here without word getting back almost instantly).

I agree....a vote on the logo in the coming weeks would be awesome...and it seems that a nice little concensus around the most recent incarnation (the fourth one in that post that had several...the one Buckeye Gal has copied above). Maybe we should all contribute ideas to tweak that one and then vote on if we want to use it!

Hadley, of course we'd consider a trip to Germany...if the vacation time and $$ were feasible...although my family has decided they do not want to go to Germany and instead they want us to use our DVC points to organize a large family gathering in a villa at WDW in the end of summer of 2009!! Can't wait to see you guys next week!

NHdisneylover, hugs to you and your husband. I hope you have a great vacation (worry free, if possible) and that all is well when you return.
