Team Suzy got home at 3:45 and Team Donald at 4:15. And we were supposed to leave for MK at 4:30. So it was a rush. But Donald said he was just pooped and volunteered to keep Boo. I was a-OK with that as I could just go and have a blast with my big girls. We were supposed to eat dinner at home before we left but with having only 15 minutes between arriving and leaving again, my girls forgot to eat anything.
We took the boat over:
So we got to MK and rushed to Space to see how long the standby line was. It was 5:00 p.m. The standby was 45 minutes and the FP return time was 6:05. So that seemed like a no brainer. We grabbed FP’s. But McQueen was beyond sad we didn’t just hop on Space Mt. We consoled him while we waited to see Laugh Floor. It was Milo’s first time and I was really hoping he would be “that Guy” as he would have made a great “that guy” but no such luck.
Ever noticed this little touch in the holding room?
After this some needed a potty break and I took the opportunity to buy ice cream. When McQueen came out of the potty he said in a whiny voice, “Hey, where’s my ice cream?” and with pleasure I handed him a hot fudge sundae. There is just something about ice cream that puts people in a good mood. The strawberry we got was really yummy too but I didn’t get nearly enough as it was time to ride Space Mt. So with great sadness I handed over all the ice cream to Suzy and Jack-Jack and we hopped into our space shuttle.
This was our fastest FP line by far. It just moved super quick. Plus the lady behind us was freaking out as she hates any thrill rides and her family had told her this wouldn’t be too bad. So she asked our opinion. I kept reassuring her that it wasn’t that bad and it was more about the dark than being a rollercoaster. She got on the car behind us. And I was very glad I never saw her again. As the entire time I was riding I was a little worried about her. I’m a huge rollercoaster person and to me Space Mt. is hardly a coaster at all. But as I rode it this time, seeing it through someone else’s eyes, I realized that it is indeed a roller coaster and she probably couldn’t breath and was swearing up a storm at the lady who told her it would all be fine. The lady in a very conspicuous tye-dye shirt. Good thing it was dark and we were outta there quick.
The other thing I just want to mention is being launched. Is it just me or do you all count as this ride starts? You know how it says 20 seconds, 10 seconds, and then you are launched? Am I the only one who counts down to make sure it really is 20 seconds? I do it every time I ride it. And it is ALWAYS 20 seconds.
So by this time it was 6:30 and we needed to get settled for Spectro. Suzy and the rest rode again and Milo and I set up shop in a pretty good space. We weren’t right on the curb, we were 2nd row. But with our two giant strollers and the big blanket I put down on the ground we were protecting the people who did have the curb so they were nice and our kids basically had a front row view.
I needed to grab some food for my kids and asked Milo what I should get for his kids. He said they wouldn’t like Casey’s and weren’t hungry so not to get them anything. But I didn’t really believe him so I grabbed some stuff for them anyway. Even still when they all got back he had to go stand in the Casey’s line himself. Oops.
For me my Casey’s line was a nice little time. There was a guy next to me from NYC who had a timeshare and had come to WDW the week after Thanksgiving for years and years. He said it was twice as crowded as he had ever seen it. So we discussed possible causes for this shift, the economy or Disney’s marketing, etc. I love New Yorkers and we just had a great time. Before I knew it I was ordering fries and corndogs and a hotdog. This was my first time in Casey’s and I liked it very much.
I arrived back at the seats with 10 minutes to spare and McQueen took one look at my food and said, “Hey, where’s my French fries?” And it was with great pleasure that I handed him his own thing of fries. And looked back at Milo who said, “Yes, yes, you were right.” It takes a big man to admit that without prompting!
Ah, Spectro. Such a delightful parade. Two things of note. One is we were able to let a few kids whose parent’s got them there late sit with us and therefore have excellent seats. The parents were grateful and the kids adorable. That made me very happy.
Second, this big scary vampire thing got stuck in front of us. On it’s own it would not have been that scary. But the scary music just lasted too long and all the little ones really were terrified.
At the end of the parade we packed up our spot and moved to the street to watch Wishes. Two things of note here too. First, after we were all set with a great view this tall guy with a giant, professional camera stood right in front of me and blocked my view. I was really irritated by that but now I wish desperately I could find his photos on line because mine stink. Second, a dad had his son on his shoulders and his kid suddenly kicked out his foot to readjust his seat and kicked the lady next to him in the nose, which promptly bloody her nose. It must have seriously hurt. But unlike our Sprite incident at Fantasmic this lady simply said, “It’s OK honey, I’m fine.” You have got to be kidding me? We get a guy a little wet and he has a big fit and she gets a bloodied nose and says it’s OK? Our kids always choose uptight people to have accidents with. Suzy's comment was simply, “Better that dad than us.”
Decked out in all their glow stuff.
Wishes viewing is always a little insane. As is exiting post-Wishes. People were fairly orderly, though. Normally I cry during all WDW fireworks but perhaps because of the mayhem around me this day I didn’t. But as we exited I said outloud, “Goodbye Magic Kingdom, “ as it would be my family’s last day here. THAT made me cry big time.
When we got off the monorail to the tram line which was forming we looked into the strollers and realized we would never be able to get all the sleeping children out and the strollers folded. We were gonna have to walk. Which is a bad walk anyway, made worse by me forcing Suzy, who knew better, to go the wrong way. We ended up in the taxi cab area. Just typing it makes me giggle so I’m going to take a side trip down memory lane.
Suzy and I have been to many countries, Mexico, Israel, Belize, France, etc. And this little taxi cab area reminded us very much of a third world country with beggars everywhere calling out to you and trying to get you to choose their wares. It was a stark reminder of where we were, Fantasyland. And highly amusing as we hightailed it out of there. Not sure who takes taxis from MK but the area is to the right of the trams and not at all magical. Oops! Good thing Milo and Suzy have good senses of humor and were like, “PERLA! Where have you taken us? Why are we suddenly in a foreign marketplace?”
Here we are on the right pathway. We walked maybe a mile. We were in Pluto 26 if that helps you. I think it is just behind the second row of trees, if you know your MK parking lots well.
We drove home, the kids rushed into bed, and we watched the new Top Chef together. Good thing I was prepped by watching all the other Top Chefs.
