Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Liz - Good for you! Glad you got enough energy (and health back) to run. Good luck on your long run this weekend.

Has anyone seen or heard from Deb (Solar)?!? Deb - Are you lurking? How's your training going? You meeting us at Tent D on 2 October?

Should we put together a back-up plan for post-race? Like...let's meet at the Moracco fountain if we miss each other at Tent D? Or something like that?

Last night, I took the 10K race map (that I'll be running next Saturday) and drove downtown Edmonton and drove the course, then ran it backwards. Of course, I forgot my Garmin at home :headache:, so I have NO idea how I did, pace-wise, etc. But I decided I'm okay with that. I now know the whole course, so I'm more prepared than 90% of the other runners. It's really flat, so that's good.

I'm planning on an 8-miler this Saturday, then I'll "taper" a bit next week before the 10K.

Hope everyone's week is going well and no one has melted yet!

Run on, Ducks!

Renee

I see her on Facebook. I know she had to take a break from running for a bit? But, she's run a couple of times recently. I'm sure she'll check in when she gets a chance.

I finally got on the treadmill yesterday and did a short, slow two miles. My husband gave me his cold when he returned from deployment and I hadn't worked out in a while. But, today I plan on getting on the stationary bike and running again tomorrow. Hoping it goes better than it did yesterday. The good news is I'm not sore at all today. :thumbsup2

I bit the bullet last night and signed up for a 10K. :) I've run a couple before on my own, but never an actual timed race. It's a pretty hilly course, so it will be interesting to see how I do on that course and time wise. It's this weekend, so I'll be able to know pretty soon how good/bad I did. ;)

Carissa - Thanks for the news on Deb. Hope there's no injuries.

Ann - Good luck on your 10K this weekend!

Tricia - Bummer about the W&D Half. But the Goofy will keep you plenty motivated - and busy!

Liz: Thanks for the thoughts, I hope you get to feeling better.

So I've started increasing my mileage on my runs to make it a little easier when I start my training plan. I'm doing 10k runs during the week and 8.5 miles for my long run on the weekends.
Also I was wondering when everyone was starting their WDW Half training? I know everyone that is running the Wine & Dine is in the middle of their training, so what type program are you using? Last year I used a 10 week program but I am actually considering doing a 16 week program this time. Has anyone made a change like this? If so did you feel better prepared? Thanks for any advice.

TGIF Ducks!

Well yesterday evening I felt up for doing my long run so I went for it. I did 6 miles in 1:10. It's not the 7 miles I was supposed to do based on my plan, but I'm really happy I was able to go that far considering the bug I'm still fighting off! Today I'll bike.

Your body has been through a lot! I amazed you can still do as much as you do. Keep plugging away, you are definitely on track!

Thanks!

That sounds fine for a back up plan. I'm planning to make the prerace meet. Post race I'll be with my friend.

That's great you know the 10K course now! I did that for my first 5K last year...I ran the course the week before. It calmed my nerves bigtime!

Last year for the January Half I used the marathonrookie 10 week plan. It was fine, I was satisfied with my performance in the race. I decided based on the fact that I am injury-prone though that it would be better for me to do a more gradual plan. That being said, I then ended up registering for W&D and am pretty much back to doing a "short" training plan for this race.

Right now I am actually using a plan I made up myself. I took what I've learned from other plans and made up something that is working for my needs and ability. I've only run twice a week thus far with this plan, and will only run a max of three times a week in the weeks ahead. (And I use the biking as my crosstraining.) I'm trying to reduce my injury risk.

After W&D I will probably let myself rest for a week and then start up with training again that second week of October, so 13 weeks to train

So, after I complete this training and the W&D then I'll decided how to tackle training for January...if I'll make up my own plan again or follow an official one.

Hi everyone!
I managed a 6.5 mile run yesterday after work. It was really hot, about 90 when I started. For the first time I really wanted to stop, but the only thing keeping me going was my car was 3 miles away and I didn't want to walk the rest of the way. It's supposed to get cooler next week, I hope so.

It sounds like everyone is doing good with the training. Liz you're awesome continuing with training even though you're not feeling 100%. An upcoming Disney event is a powerful motivator:thumbsup2, it's what gets me up on Saturday mornings for long runs and running in 85 degree heat in the afternoons.

I have signed up for a 10K on the 22nd. It's the Running the Rails in Ypsilanti AND I just signed up for the WDW Half Marathon this January :cool1:.
Stephanie starts the winter semester January 10th, so her and I will come down for about 5 days before the race. It will be nice just her and I to do Disney together, unless her boyfriend weasels his way into the trip:scared1: (I'm sure she is already working on it). Debbie has had her fill of Disney for a while, so she is staying home.
I didn't see online, what hotels at WDW will have transportation to the expo and race? I am thinking using points if I can, to a DVC property that has transportation or maybe POP (I've wanted to try that resort).

Have a good weekend everyone.

Joe

Good (early) morning Ducks! I just wanted to bid you farewell for the week... We are heading to Disney today!! Those of you on FB will see pics while we're there. No working out this week so I'll have to get right back at it when we return.

Joe, thanks, yes, a Disney race is a great motivator, you're right! I might not have done any working out this week if it weren't for W&D.

I added your races to the list. Good luck with your 10K next week!! :cool1:

And good luck with the January trip planning and the weasly boyfriend. lol ;) I haven't booked our room yet (Carissa and I are sharing a room). We're planning to stay at POP. I have an AP so I'll either try for an AP rate or if there is a better racers rate I'll do that. I've been watching the site to see which resorts are participating ones, I have no idea if they do that for the January Marathon weekend like they are for W&D or if all resorts are fine?? This past January for my one and only Disney race so far I stayed with a friend at BLT on points and I didn't pay attention to any of that.

Have a GREAT week Ducks! Do some running for me! :)

Did I know this??? :confused3 I knew about the trip over Christmas, but don't remember this one. Was it a spur of the moment decision? Have a great time!

Joe: During Marathon Weekend they should have transportation from all the resorts to the expo and races.

Liz: I'm so jealous of you right now. Have fun on your trip.

Liz: SO JEALOUS of you!
We don't leave until October 17 for our next trip.

Did 7.7 miles yesterday w/no humidity + a nice breeze! FABULOUS!

My first Half is in five weeks. Getting nervous.
I'll finish it no matter what - just the time may not be so pretty.

Like someone recently told me, don't worry about your time. No matter what, it will be a personal record for you. :thumbsup2 Finish with a smile. :)

Well, I finished my 10K this morning. I really wasn't expecting a course that was so hilly with it being Eastern NC, but those hills just about beat me! I did 1:17, which wasn't terrible but I've done much better. :)

Yea, Liz - What she said! (insert emoticon of Renee pointing at Carissa). I thought y'all went on your family WDW trip in June (or was it July?). In any case, this all seems so spur of the moment. And to spring it on the Ducks so casually! None of us knew anything about this! How can you do this to us?

Ann - Way to go on your 10K this morning! :cheer2: Hills are never easy, so you did great!

I did 8 miles this morning and felt good, so all is settling in well. Next weekend is both the Dragon Boat Festival, which I will paddle in, and the Edmonton 10K on Saturday evening, which I'll run in. A busy weekend!

SEVEN weeks until the W&D Half. Will the Ducks be ready?!?

I'm behind schedule, not even positive its going to happen for me. I did the wait list, which came through, but I had already cancelled our onsite room and developed a mindset of not doing it. Now, I'm struggling to get back into the "I can do this" mindframe. I'm on a waitlist for BCV villa...not looking good and I'm just not sure I want to stay offsite and do the 1/2...or make my dh deal with the whole logistics of it! :confused3

I'm going to run 3 miles around a "lake" today. It will be my first real run outside since I started this adventure in January. (I did run outside for the first time a couple of weeks ago, but it was just around the neighborhood and I didn't track my distance and didn't maintain any sort of regular run/walk intervals - just wanted to get a feel for it.) Should be a beautiful morning for it.

Have a great Sunday, Ducks! :goodvibes

Okay....so the BCV villa is NOT going to come through. I am staying at Saratoga and have been on a waitlist for BWV, BCV, etc. for some time. So, don't let that be your reason for not doing it! You CAN do it...it is going to be sooooooooo fun! Are rooms at POP available?

I eventually had to end up at the All Star Music because I waited too long :(

it won't be so bad, I am really looking forward to the race. I have a 6.5 run today and the weather is a lot cooler so I am looking forward to it.

Looks like you all are doing an excellent job training!! I am really looking forward to meeting many of you there!!:cool1:
