Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Joe- Way to go with the 10k.. I'm impressed!!
Keep working towards the half. You're doing great!

I ran a 5k this weekend by the beach, it was a bit muggy but I did my best time yet @ 38 min.
I know, not great but still... I had a 8 miler today but with this rain I am waiting it out.

I hope you all are running your best and feeling your best!!
:dance3::hug::hug::dance3::hug:

Hey, Joe and Renee, good job with the 10K's! And nice time in the 5K, Karen!

Kind of rainy today, no biking to work. But did go out at lunch for a run.

Summer is flying by, isn't it?

Good Luck!!!:)

Good Luck Megan!
You'll be fine during the phone interview, my DD (Steph) made it through the College Program process and she is very shy and hasn't had any experience with interviews. She was offered a job, but decided to go back to school and after the next 2 semesters she will be on a wait list for the radiology program, so she is going to apply again, while waiting.
Joe

SMOKE!!!!
Megan - Good luck with the interview process. Have confidence in yourself and it'll show through!

Megan: GOOD LUCK! I can't wait to hear all about it!

Megan: My daughter says to thank the interviewer at the end for interviewing you and to use their name. She says they like hearing their name.

Thank you all for all of your support! :goodvibes It went really well, I think! Now, they told me 3-4 weeks. Ugh....At least I have Cross Country to keep me occupied! (oh. and college :scared1:)

Hey Ducks! We got back from Disney on Saturday. Had a great time, as always! I was too tired to do anything exercise-wise on Sunday, but I did bike yesterday and ran 3 miles today. 5.5 weeks until W&D. Can't believe it!

I decided not to do the 10K I was planning on for next month. With losing a week due to the stomach bug (which turned out to be salmonella, by the way) I need another week to get a long run in. The only reason I was doing that 10K was to get proof of time for the W&D corrals...and I don't NEED to do that. I'll just take whatever corral they give me for W&D, and then if I finish in under 2:45 I'll use that as proof for the January Half.

Ann, Renee and Joe, congrats on the 10K's! And Karen on your 5K! :thumbsup2

Megan that's great your interview went well! Hang in there with the waiting, let us know asap when you hear something! :wizard:

Has anyone gotten their ME tickets yet? I got mine the other day, a sure sign that the trip is not so far away!

The weather has cleared a bit, so rode to work and went for a run at lunchtime. I have signed up for a duathlon the first Sunday in September in Central Park, hoping to improve on my finish from last year.

Have a great week! Keep running!

Augie

Yes, we got ours as well, I had to update them so all is ready... guess I better keep running

Ride Like the Wind Bullseye!!!:yay:

Welcome home, Liz! :cheer2: Hope y'all had a magical time...without us...snif...

Augie - You're amazing...biking, running...is there really any time left to work?

I went out for a SLOOOOOOW 5 mile run last night. Ended up running it at a faster pace than I've ever run before. Stupid...:sad2: I need to slow down if I'm gonna survive the upcoming long runs and the half.

And as everyone has stated...our mantra is...Keep Running!

Hi Everyone!

My college's schedule for XC just posted tonight, once I confirm it with Coach I'll post it here so that it can be added to the race schedule haha =]

I'm debating doing a 10K (It would be the longest race I've ever done) on Labor Day weekend but havn't decided yet! lol

It is nice to know I'll have some people around me on my slow run!:lmao:

Ran 10 miles this morning and wasn't all that tired at the end. Felt great all day afterwards, so that's a good sign.

We are very fortunate up here...fall is already setting in. It was probably 45 degF at the most when I ran this morning. Now I'm getting worried that I'll have a tough time running in the Florida heat and humidity after training in this cool climate with no humidity.

I also haven't figured out what I should run in terms of long runs between now and the W&D Half. I have four more weekends/long runs left. Do I run 12 miles-10 miles-12 miles-8 miles? Or should I run 10-12-10-8? Or 12-10-12-10? Any Ducky advice?

I'll leave the "experts" to give their advice on your long runs. ;) When I get to that point later this year, I don't plan on running more than 10 miles. But, I've only been "running" since January. I'll be following John Bingham's half-marathon training schedule and he never has me do more than 10 miles. The last four long runs go 6 - 10 - 8 - 5.

Today I did my "long" run of 4 miles. I've only gone that far one other time and I did it today in 53:38 beating my previous time by about 5 minutes. And I felt great! Who knew running consistently could really help my performance. :rolleyes1 Definitely felt like I could have kept going so I don't think 5 miles will be bad at all. My speed is increasing too - slowly but surely. :thumbsup2

Hope all of the Ducks had a great running weekend. :goodvibes

Sounds like everyone is doing well-- that's awesome.

I was looking at incorporating some races as I train for the princess half marathon, particularly the longer distances. I figured it would motivate me more to participate in a race, and it would also be good practice. There is a half marathon literally down the street from me occuring the week I am supposed to do 11 miles ( I am following the Galloway schedule). The race is supported for 8 hours, so I was thinking I would do my walk/jog for the 11 miles and then walk the last two miles really slowly as a cool down of sorts.

Is that ok to do or am I better off just doing the 11 miles on my own? And would I change anything for the following weeks? I was also looking at doing another half the week I am scheduled to run 12.5 miles but I am not as sure about that one bc the time limit isn't as generous

Well, four weeks from now I will be in WDW! My running has sort of fallen off, it has been so hot here lately. I did go out at lunchtime, and I am going to do a duathlon this Sunday. Went hiking up at a ski resort last Sunday while working at a mountain bike race, and my legs were a bit sore from that. Going up was not bad, it was coming down that was tricky.

Not sure what to say about long run advice, my longest run before the last half I did was a 13K and that was two months before the half. And I did a 10K (the WISH virtual Turkey Trot) a month before. All my other runs were all in the 3 to 4 mile range. But I finished the Half, so i guess it worked.....

Hope those of you along the east coast make it through the hurricane, they say it will pass by here tomorrow.

Hello to my Duck friends, how is every ones training going? Hope everyone is staying healthy.
I managed a 13.5 mile run on Sunday and it felt pretty good, the bottoms of my feet were tender afterwords, but didn't last. I'm feeling more confident about my upcoming half marathons now.:thumbsup2 It's supposed to start cooling down this weekend, so that will be nice.
Good luck Dan on your half this weekend, see you in 2 weeks. Have a good Labor Day weekend everyone.
Joe

Hello All,

Sorry for being absent from here for a while, but I have been lurking and staying tuned in to what has been going on. Life has definitely kept me busy here lately. With my runs getting longer, my work trips getting more frequent, and school work getting more demanding my free time to post is limited.

Sounds like everyone is having some good running going on. As for myself I have the Virginia Beach Rock and Roll this weekend and then the Air Force Half and the Navy 5 miler up in DC before Wine and Dine.

My wife and I are making the wine and dine our 15 year anniversary trip. My mother in law is watching the kids. I am really looking forward to this race.

I will try not to be such a stranger around here, keep kicking asphalt and talk to you soon.

I've been visiting a daughter in Northern Utah, then our son and grandkids in California the last week and didn't get in any runs. Just a couple of miles on a treadmill.

I did get back on a workout schedule today, with a 3 mile treadmill, 1 hour of zumba and then 30 minutes of ab work...really tiring after being off schedule for the last week, but still felt good. I plan to do a long run (9 miles) in the morning, as temps are really nice right now and I want to get back on schedule. I know I don't 'have' to do 13 miles before the half, but for me, it will help me mentally to have accomplished the distance before the race.
Just a personal hang up. :)

:banana::scared1::banana::scared1:It's getting close!

How very romantic!!

I hope it is a very special anniversary for you both... 15 years is a long time!:cheer2:

Went out this afternoon and did 9.2 miles, so I'm feeling a little better about being on schedule!

Can you believe the Food and Wine 1/2 Marathon is only 4 weeks and 1 day away! :scared1:
