Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Okay....so the BCV villa is NOT going to come through. I am staying at Saratoga and have been on a waitlist for BWV, BCV, etc. for some time. So, don't let that be your reason for not doing it! You CAN do it...it is going to be sooooooooo fun! Are rooms at POP available?

The All Star's, etc. don't have any of the good rates left. :)Thanks for not letting me make excuses:rotfl:, there are a couple of the Downtown Disney hotels that have excellent rates if the BCV waitlist doesn't come through.

I did get in 7 miles this morning, so I'm not a complete slacker. :goodvibes

No one here is a slacker . . . LOL! Sign up and join us at BOMA!

I'm finally getting my mind in the right frame for this race (thanks in large part to you). So I will be doing the race!
Not sure about Boma's yet, we arrive that day and the timing is pretty iffy for us.
Sunday we have a 12pm Wine Dinner at France (yummy!), so we son't be able to make it to the Polynesian gathering....though I would sure love to!

Well, I hope to see you there! Maybe we can "hang" before the race. Don't know about the Polynesian meet, but since I'm doing Boma - that might be enough with such a short trip. I'm glad you're "in"! The more, the merrier! :thumbsup2

I hope Boma's works out, but it doesn't look like it. I'm a walker so before the race I'll be in a back corral, but I'll be watching for you and other WISHers.

Yesssss! Sharon's gonna make it to the W&D Half! Are you gonna make that hotel reservation and truly commit? You're in the race and now the Ducks are counting on you being there for the Team. Just make sure the DTD hotels don't fill up on you, too!

Thanks, Laura, for "persuading" Sharon to make this happen.:wizard:

Is anyone planning on meeting at the Big River Grille on Saturday afternoon? Anyone? If so, what time-ish?

You guys are a persuasive team! I will get the reservations finished, my waitlist came through for the race and I officially signed up so I am committed!!!

Hi Duckies,

Just a heads up that SW released dates past Jan 7th if you were waiting for that to get your flights. I just booked mine!

Have not done much running since my last race, but still biking every day. Leaving work early today, going to go see Phish tonight.

Have a great week!

Augie

Do you guys have any suggestions for ways to carry water on long runs? I've looked at a fuel belt, but wondered if there was anothere popular way to transport water.

I got one of those around the waist things at Target for under 20 bucks. I love it. It came with the water bottle too. I carry my keys, iPhone the water and a packet of jelly belly beans.

I use a camelback when I cycle, but when running I rely on the water stops, which seemed to be plentiful (for me) at January. I like to keep my hands free. When I did the ToT I carried my camera with me, which turned out to be not good, it could not go in my pockets as it bounced too much, so I wound up holding it in my hand, which was ok, I guess. I tried to take pictures while running at every mile marker and as I did not stop they all came out crappy. As for water stops, I seem to grab a cup, take a few sips and pour the rest over my head. Though I did not do that in January! But the ToT was plenty warm for that.

Oh, I am still planning on having my pre-race last meal at Big River. And I have also signed up for the Boma dinner on Friday.

I use the belt from Target also. My blackberry fits in the mp3 holder perfectly to GPS track my runs. The belt is comfortable and a 20 oz. bottle doesn't bother me hanging on my hip. It also came with a digital subscription to Runners World, which is pretty cool. The water bottle leaked, though, so I swapped it out for an aluminum one.

Have a good week everyone.

Hi everyone! I've been running about 3 miles for the past 4 days each day and it's been going alright. The humidity is killer! :)

In other news...I applied for the College Program today! :) :) Wish me loads of luck, please °o° I'm as nervous as can be for my next step (which is an phone interview)! :)

Good Luck Megan!
You'll be fine during the phone interview, my DD (Steph) made it through the College Program process and she is very shy and hasn't had any experience with interviews. She was offered a job, but decided to go back to school and after the next 2 semesters she will be on a wait list for the radiology program, so she is going to apply again, while waiting.

How is everyone doing with their training? Debbie's After Race Party ticket came in this week, so I'm getting pretty excited. I was trying to upload a picture of the ticket, but the link isn't working. I will try again later.
Happy Weekend Everyone!
Joe

SMOKE!!!! :scared1:

Yep, the British Columbia fire smoke has drifted all the way into Alberta and has socked in Edmonton. Apparently, there are over 300 fires burning in BC right now! So the 10K I am scheduled to run on Saturday evening (and the Edmonton Marathon and Half scheduled on Sunday morning) are tentative at best now. I was really hoping to get a decent finish time for better coralling at the W&D Half. We shall see...

Megan - Good luck with the interview process. Have confidence in yourself and it'll show through!

Joe - Good luck with your race on Sunday! Break a leg...or at least run real fast!

The Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival kicks off tomorrow evening and I'll be paddling in that, too. So between paddling on Friday/Saturday/Sunday and running the 10K race (cross your fingers) on Saturday evening, I'll be pretty busy this weekend.

Hope everyone's training is going well. Any long runs scheduled this weekend?

Augie: Just booked my SW flights too. When are you arriving? I don't get in until Friday afternoon.

Megan: GOOD LUCK! I can't wait to hear all about it!

Renee: UGH! Hope the smoke clears soon (literally). Stay safe!

I've been on the DL this week w/a yucky summer cold. Hoping to get my long run in tomorrow at least. Haven't done any exercise all week. :sad1:

Hi, hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Megan: My daughter says to thank the interviewer at the end for interviewing you and to use their name. She says they like hearing their name. I had my 10K this morning, it went good. I managed to do it in 1:00:23, a little slower than my first 10K, but a lot of hills on this course. I drive about a third of this course everyday going to and from work and never noticed the hills before.:confused3
I still have a problem with pacing (lack of experience), my last mile split was faster then all but the first mile. I need to concentrate on my pace more and try to improve it.
Less than a month till my first half marathon (The Air Force half). I hope I like it, the Wine and Dine is 2 weeks later.:scared1:

Have a good weekend everyone.:donald:

Joe - Congrats on your 10K!

Maddykins - You feelin' better yet?

The smoke cleared pretty well over the weekend here in Edmonton and the 10K went off without a hitch last night. I ran it in 1:01:50. My plan was to average 10 minute miles, so I was right on the mark. :thumbsup2 I ran the first half a bit faster than I had wanted (averaging 10:20 a mile), but still pulled it out in the second half. Joe - our mantra...slow down...slow down...slow down...slow down...

The 2010 Dragon Boat Festival is in the history books for Edmonton. While my team didn't medal this year, we did move up two divisions in competition over last year, so we are getting much better at paddling. And me? I'm just physically wiped out, between paddling and running this weekend. I need a weekend to recover. Where'd it go?

Keep up the good work, Ducks! For the Wine & Diners, we got SIX weeks to go!

Joe: YAY for 10K! When is the Air Force half? My first half is also in four weeks! :scared1:

Renee: Still a little congested. Thanks for asking!

Did six miles on Saturday. Not so good (13.33 pace) - still sick.
Almost got clobbered by our local university football team running past me
(& hocking lugies the whole way - gross boys!) :sad2:

Have a GREAT week everyone!
