Dogs allowed?

No Dogs are not allowed at Disney resorts, DVC or otherwise. They do have a kennel right next to Epcot though if you want to bring your pet.

Of course if you're talking about a service animal, say for the blind, they probably make an exception for that. But I've never seen a dog on disney property (well at least a non-character one anyway!) ;)

DOgs are not allowed in any of the FW Cabins, but if you have your own camper, you can request a loop which allows pets.

I think Dogs are allowed at the FW campgrounds.

No, sadly, no Fur Children are allowed at any DVC resort (excepting service animals). I for One would like this to change. I should think that 1 building at OKW and SSR could be made into dog friendly locales.

I have seen service dogs in Disney but I have no idea if they stay onsite or no. I've never seen any in anyof the hotels or on the buses.

Service dogs are allowed at DVC resorts. I noticed a dog waste bag dispencer at VWL and asked at the front desk why it was there since they don't allow dogs. I was told it was for service animals staying at the resort.

Ahhhh..... if it were that easy. Would they be dog friendly and smoking, or dog friendly and non-smoking buildings.....

Dog friendly, non-smoking and non-handicap, or dog friendly, non-smoking and handicap.... and of course there are those subjecting thier inocent pets to second hand cigarette smoke who I guess would like to do the same on DVC property....

It starts to get complicated......

I'm a dog owner and have had dogs all my life, but never on vacations. If DVC started letting dogs stay at the resort, I would be first in line to sell my points. Mind you, it's not the dogs, it's the dog's owners, who think that everyone else in the neighborhood love listnening to their little Fido bark for hours on end....

No PETS allowed at Disney resorts (DVC included), but service animals must be allowed by law. FYI, there is a blind family who owns DVC at OKW, and we have been there several times when they have . We have enjoyed the company of them and their dogs on the boat to DTD.

I am a dog owner, breeder, and exhibitor. There is no way I would want dogs on my vacation with me. We have in the past combined WDW trips with dog show trips, but our dogs were very happy to stay in the kennels provided by Disney. It was a reall hassle to always go out to walk them though. Now we only go to Florida for Disney, and if we go for dog shows, we skip Disney.

When we go to WDW (or on any vacation for that matter) our dog goes to an amazing 5 star+ deluxe kennel, that costs about as much as the All Star resorts (and worth every penny).

What would she do all day waiting for us in a hotel room (or villa)? She'd be bored to tears, not to mention probably scared to death.

Our prior dog, who died a few months ago, considered that kennel her second home. They loved her almost as much as we did.

Each dog gets their own cement dog house (that's big enough for a person to walk around in) that's surrounded by the dog's own personal dog run. And in the center area, is the communal play area that's absolutely huge and in which the easy dogs are allowed to roam free most of the day (the more difficult dogs take turns - our new dog falls into that second group - our earlier dog into the former group).

and the whole complex is surrounded by a double fence with killer guard dogs roaming between them, to keep away any dog thiefs (two kinds of thiefs, those who are after the breeds and those who are after a meal - most of the thiefs fall into the latter category).

in any case, neither we nor our dog would be happy with her stuck in a little kennel or a room all day.

But we definitely miss her when we're away!!

As mentioned, Fort Wilderness is a WDW Resort and there are PET LOOPS where you can stay and have your pet(s) with you. We stay there frequently and bring our pet.

It is not an exception, service animals are permitted by law. Disney does a great job in accommodating them and making both guests (two and four legged) feel welcome.

I have seen several service animals on Disney property (our own daughter's excluded) and on DCL. Cash, a service animal for another guest, was on the Panama Canal Cruise.

We visit roughly 3-4X a year and our last visit was the first time we saw a service dog. Actually, it was in "training." We have a friend with a service dog, and it always amazes me the discipline that the dog has. It was very interesting to watch a dog in "training" as compared to one who is in service. I would bet that WDW is a perfect "test" to see how the animals handle large crowds.

From a purely statistical standpoint, I would be interested to learn the % of the general population who has a service pet. The reason I ask is there APPEARS (non-scientific) to be an extraordinarily large percentage of differently-abled people who visit WDW, based on the # of wheelchairs, etc. I've seen THOUSANDS of people in wheelchairs (yes, I know that many of them, in "real life" have never even sat in a wheelchair before setting foot on WDW property - such a shame for the people who REALLY need it). But, I've only seen one service dog. I've noticed several people who have difficulty hearing making use of the teleprompters (sorry, don't know the technical name) in the attractions.

I find it curious that people with vision problems don't visit in the same percentages. I would think, especially since Disney does such a wonderful job with theming, that people with vision problems would absolutely LOVE the experience. The "feel" of the streets in the different lands, the change in smells in the different lands, the change in sounds in the different lands, etc.

Perhaps, I haven't been paying that much attention. Again, it SEEMS that a considerably higher % of physically disabled and hearing disabled people visit WDW than vision disabled.

I have never seen a service dog at Disney. I went to college with a girl that was blind and also an English major (like me) so I had a few classes with her. She had an awesome service dog. He was a black lab and was so smart. He layed right by her desk during class and never moved. Only after everyone in the row was clear would he walk her out. It always amazed that he knew exactly where to go, since it was a large campus. I can't even get my dog to not run over and pee on my neighbor's fence. :teeth:

I have heard that the Walt Disney kennels are pretty nice though. However you have to go every day to walk your dog. We leave our dog in a nice kennel by our house and pick him up when we return. :flower:

Fort Wilderness Campground does (direct from Allearsnet.com)

Does FW allow pets?

Yes. Pets are allowed at campsites in loops 1600 through 1900, 300, 700 and 800, but must be kept in those areas. Depending on the season and demand, Fort Wilderness might also temporarily designate certain loops as pet loops. There is an additional charge of $5 per day. Owners are expected to clean up after their pets. Located at the entrance/exit of the pet loops, there is a receptacle to deposit pet waste, as well as collection bags with which to pick up the waste. Collection bags are also located between sites #1632 and #1634 beside the path to the comfort station. Pets may also be boarded at the kennel near the FW entrance. Note there are kennels elsewhere on Disney property if you can't get your pet in the Fort Wilderness kennel. The overnight fee (including dry food) for WDW resort guests is $9. Guests are encouraged to walk their pets at least twice per day as they are not otherwise let out of their cages. Proof that the animal has had all of its shots is also required. Hours for the kennel are 7:30 am to 8 pm. It is being rumored that the Fort Wilderness kennel may be closed in yet another downsizing move. However, to compensate, Fort Wilderness may be adding more pet loops (500 and 600 loops).

The guide dogs at OKW that I referred to in my earlier post do not go to the parks with these particular guests. The reason is they feel the heat is too hard on them. Instead, they hire a personal guide who takes them around the parks.

Seems like I have read where people have gone around the rules and brought their dog to OKW. The advantage of parking right out side your room makes it a bit easier. Just hope they at least police after them from walks. I don't have the posts for a reference, and not feeling like doing a search for them right now. We don't have a dog.
