Dogs allowed?

Please please please do not do this. My son is allergic to dogs and if we get the room after your parents inhabit it, it will be like smoking in a non-smoking room for someone who is allergic. He will break out in a rash, his eyes will get puffy, and we will have a miserable trip.

And if we happen to be your neighbors and see the dog, we will be making a scene at the front desk with the manager for this reason. Don't ruin my vacation or yours. Kennel the dog.

I'm more than willing to put up with service dogs and buy benedryl for my kid so someone else can benefit from the wonder that is a service dog (they really are fantastic). But I'm not willing to drug my kid because your parents think the rules aren't for them.

crisi - before you drug your kid even for a service dog. if he breaks out in a rash - call housekeeping and then take him out. go swimming, parks, shopping just get him out of that room. have them clean the room - tell hk that you think their was a dog in the room. and that your son has allergies.

there is stuff that they can put on the carpet, curtains, bedspread to take alway the smell and the dog hairs can be vaccumed.

that do a okay cleaning job generally -but if they know your child has allergies they generally will go the extra mile.

WDW nor DVC wants your child be sick while there.

I would certainly hope not. We're dog lovers with two big dogs of our own. But when we vacation (or go visit family for that matter) it's off to the kennel they go. They're safer and probably happier there than with us anyway. And I'm not presumptious enough to assume that everyone loves our dogs as much as we do. I personally don't always like other people's dogs (service dogs are different of course) and I (like most people) would without question turn someone in who "sneaked" a dog into a resort where pets are not allowed.

Oh, I would. And I'd still buy the Benedryl until the room got cleaned, and just in case. But I have little tolerance (like many of us here) for me having to be inconvienced by a full cleaning because someone else didn't think the rules were for them. Maintenance at check in (as everyone who has ever needed to have it done knows) isn't always convienient.

Calm down folks, I am quite sure Beach Bound was saying that tongue in cheek! At least that's the way I took it. Either that or it was baiting you guys. :teeth:

Crisi,

I am with you and your son. I am allegeric to Dogs and Cats!! I don't want to spend my vacation drugged up because someone thought that they were above the rules on pets. I understand that there are services Dogs, and I bring all my meds with me... I HOPE that DVC does not change they policy on Dogs and/or Cats. If they change their policy we might have to sell our DVC WHICH WE LOVE!!!!!

Last time we stayed at HH, we ended up getting a room that someone had "thoughtfully" shared with their cat. The problem was though, that the cat dander didn't affect us until we went to bed. They must have let their cats on/near the bedding. DS and I woke up an hour later wheezing and with swollen faces and eyes.

The resort was great. They offered to move us (we declined), and replaced pillows, blankets and comforters - even the mattress pads! We washed the sheets ourselves while we were waiting for our meds to take over. The next day, they provided free housekeeping, and deep cleaned the entire 2 BR unit. They went above and beyond by picking up the lunch tab for our group the next day.

So, IMHO, DVC handled the entire situation great, but if I ever find that cat owner...:crazy2:

I'd hope so. On the off chance he isn't, and he simply isn't thinking that a dog will do any harm, I thought I'd let him in on the potential impact to others.

Hookdon WDW

I promise it wasn't me. Spicey stays at WDW kennels (FW).

So sorry you had problems.

I know that you're a well-mannered pet owner and that Spicey would never think of causing allergy attacks to other DVCers :goodvibes

Nope, Sorry. But the resorts at Universal Studios / IOA do. They are owned by Lowes, but I just heard on the news today that Lowes is going to be bought out, but only their theaters were mentioned.

That won't help for allergies. They need to change all the linen and steam clean the carpets and furniture. They should change the rest of the bedding anyway. It's the dander and not the hair that is the problem. For cats, it takes more like washing the walls and doing the curtains and blinds. Even then it will take a year to truly get rid of cat allergens.

Ok, so riddle me this...WDW is such a themed out piece of American bliss, so why are the kennels just kennels?? I do not understand why the Disney magic doesn't extend to our four legged friends.

Did WDW at one time have great places for pets to roam and play? It seems many people would be willing to visit more often if Disney, for a premium of course, would walk the dogs, let them play, let the animals eat special Mickey shaped treats, run an obstical course, or just lay around in the air conditioning.

It just seems odd that they do not have at least one uber-kennel for those willing to pay for the extra service. It may even draw in those who either must travel witht heir pets or those on a long trip to visit grandma in the car.

Of course, this would be a great thing to add to the SSR build-out. A super kennel with ammenities and attention for member's (and non-members if there is room) pets may be a great selling point for people on the fence about DVC and would potentially boost requests by the current members. This kennel would be very convenient, giving owners the opportunity to visit their pets at any time, plus give the animals a safe and fun place to be while at the Kingdom.

Your thoughts??? :listen:

crisi, what resort do you stay at? We stay at the BCV.

dean - believe me with the new products out this can be done. I am allergic to dogs (and yes sometimes my visit to the kennel can make me ill).

So service dogs can be and are a big problem for me.

this new stuff works. I certainly don't know how - but it does work for me. It goes on the carpet, floor, bed, and any fabric in the room.

My dog allergy is a 2.

they definitely steam the carpet - that is why you need to be gone for hours not just a hour or two. However that is a problem for me. I am also allergy to mold and mildew - so the smell of the wet carpet can set off my other allergies.

My mold and mildrew allergies are a 3 - much, much worst.

Ahhh... to be a 2... for that matter, to be a 3... I myself am an off the chart 10+ for cats, molds, dust, trees, grasses etc... Every time they go to retest me because they have "newer better allergy tests", I end up getting an epi because I react too badly to the scratch tests. The funny part is, my levels for dogs are managable (we have a basset!) and my ragweed is only a 3!

This might be the difference spicey. No spray on/squirt on/powder on gunk-in-a-can has been created that helps my allergies. I can't even get allergy shots, because my sensitivity level is too high. Instead, it's lots of meds and avoidance.

Does it make a difference? The point really isn't about MY kid (the chances you'd be in the same room at the same resort right before my trip are pretty low), it about the fact that people do have allergies to pets and that breaking the rules is selfish and can have consequences for the next guest.

Okay, time to yank Crisi's chain out of Beach Bound's hands. :teeth:

IF you change all the linen and use the Acarosan (carpet powder) and take an antihistamine; you should be OK in many cases. The problem is that there are allergies and there are allergies. What may be enough for you may not be for someone else. What may cause you to get stuffed up, sneeze and a Headache; may be life threatening for someone else. And the amount of allergen that may make someone else ill be be 1/100 th the amount that will bother you. So while there are ways to make it better, the only really good way is to keep the animals out. I'd bet that most hotels have specific rooms they use for this situation so only a portion of the rooms are affected, at least when it's done legally and they know about it.
