Does your office have "fun" days?

I'm just curious, does your office have things like "Crazy Hat Day" or "Hawaiian Shirt day" etc.? Does your workplace do things for employees birthdays? Do you have holiday parties?

My office has actually had Crazy Hat Day (with prizes awarded for the craziest hat) and Hawaiian Shirt day, and since we're in Boston, we have Patriots Jersey day or Red Sox attire day.

For birthdays, each dept. handles it differently. My group has about 15 people and in the beginning of January , each person picks a name out of a hat. Whoever's name you get, you are in charge of getting their birthday cake and a card. Then on the persons birthday, the card gets passed around and the group meets in the afternoon for about an hour to have a little cake and ice cream party.

My BF works here too, his dept. has way more people and they celebrate each months birthdays on the same day (ie. everyone in Sept. will have cake on one day).

We also have things like employee photo contests, employee's kids art contests, employee art showcases (I'm actually feautured this month :teeth: ) and things like that.

My brother works for a different company in the area and his office does stuff like this too.

I told my friend who works in a really stuffy type office about Crazy Hat Day and she said she could not even imagine her co-workers participating in such silliness...

Ironically, we are not allowed to dress up for Halloween. But we do have a Halloween party. :D

What does your workplace do?

The company I work for now is too small. But I used to work for a larger company that did things like that....including dressing up for Halloween. It was pretty funny when you had employees wearing masked costumes and you didn't know who was who.

Yeah, it's pretty fun. We do our work, don't get me wrong. In fact, I work with a very hard working group of people.

But the management definately has the philosophy that all work and no play makes for very unhappy employees. So they throw in a lot of the fun stuff.

I'm sure if they noticed a trend of people slacking off when there was piles of work they'd stop it. But so far, so good. :) They are only really sticklers about not dressing up on Halloween, because they have said that would be too much of a distraction for the whole day. I suppose if people wanted to wear tropical shirts or crazy hats on Halloween, that would be okay though.

Oh, and remember, next Friday is Hawaiian shirt day. So, you know, if you want to go ahead and wear a Hawaiian shirt and jeans.

Sorry...Office Space flashback.:p

We have pot-lucks every once in a while, but not too often. I always tell them they can dress up for Halloween if they want to, but no one ever does. We're pretty boring.

EsmeraldaX -

I thought your office had the "drink other people's milk day".

btw - maybe i missed the post, but did this issue get resolved? sorry for ot.

Back on-topic:
My Dh office's cafeteria had a cookout every Wednesday in summer. I thought it sounded pretty good.

The office I worked at before my current one had lots of fun days. They had a pumpkin carving contest around halloween, easter egg hunt in the office for easter as well as dying easter eggs....stuff like that. It was a fun place to work! Too bad I could only work there for a semester.

Nope. The milk bandit is still on the loose!

The hospital I worked at did things from time to time. Everyone looked forward to a day to wear jeans even if we did need to donate money for a cause. :) Certainly raised lots of money by doing that. The CEO was a huge fan of baseball and was the first to have us show up in jeans and a baseball tee at the start of the season. :) Of course, he then had to do that for football season. LOL! They always had things going on. For every holiday, each department had to decorate their doors and there was a contest for the best. The patients used to get a kick out of them as they walked the halls. :) Pizza parties, ice cream socials...LOL! Then there was hospital week...went overboard then. LOL! :) They did plenty.

But I had a job prior to that where I LOVED working on Fridays! Monday through Thursday, all the nurses were working out in the field checking on patients. But on Friday they would all stop in at some point in the day to pick up paychecks. Friday was like a party the entire day. :Pinkbounc

Our VP is a big baseball fan too. Sometimes the company has specially organized after work "field trips" to games. It's always a good time.

We have Friday "jeans" day too. We don't have a really strict dress code the rest of the week...it's pretty much, don't wear jeans, tee shirts or sneakers and don't look like a slob. Anything else is okay. Jeans are cool on Fridays or if you're doing something that requires getting a little dusty, like cleaning out the file room or something.

I have worked in the same office for 16 years. And we used to have alot more fun than we do now. When we were bigger we had alot of little get together. We had dog days and fun things. But not anymore. Just work work work.

Yup, our "jean" days were rare. Personally, I'm always more productive dressed like that! :) I always wanted a "jean" job, but they don't pay enough. :(

Funny you should ask... we're having one today! It's the "End of Summer Bash". The managers are cooking out on the parking lot, hamburgers/hot dogs, etc. They have carnival type games also. Told us we could wear shorts if we wanted. Friday's are jeans days anyway around here. We do things like this quite often.

We just had "Crazy Hat Day" last week.

No fun here. I'm in a government agency so if the media ever found out that any fun went on here, they'd assume taxpayer dollars were involved (even if we chipped in our own $$).

Around the holidays we have a food table - if you want to bring stuff in, the office will eat it! :p We usually combine it with a food drive for the local food bank.

Yup, pretty boring! ::yes::

That cookout sounds fun! I wish we had our own parking lot so we could do stuff like that. We're located in a pretty congested area though. :(

Did you wear a crazy hat?

Mom2Ashli - What are dog days? Do you get to bring your dog to work?
