I worked at an office that did once - and I HATED it! I love potlucks, parties, etc., but coming to work in costumes (when you have no customers or children you are trying to impress) seems absurd to me. I'd much rather have casual days, etc. and a few basic social gatherings, raffles, etc.

On Halloween the crazy ladies in my department (we had no men) decided to dress in leotards, tights, with clear bags of coloured ballons so we would all be jelly beans. Some of these ladies were not thin, trust me the leotards were a bad idea. I was the only one out of 15 that didn't participate and I still don't regret it. Everone ran around like idiots all day (probably because they couldn't sit down) and then spent the rest of the week desperately trying to meet their productivity goals. As far as I'm concerned the day would have been better spent if they'd just given everyone the afternoon off.

Nope. No crazy hat days for me. At my last workplace the entire division had a Christmas party lunch in the company cafeteria with karaoke entertainment (oh joy!) - and the insulting part of it was that we had to pay for our lunch - last year it was like $15. Also, each boss would take his/her department out for lunch at some fancy restaurant at Christmas and for slave's (sorry, secretary's) day. These were all obligatory functions where we had to appear happy and suck up to the bosses. My last day of work there was Friday. Can you tell I'm not going to miss working there? Don't know what it will be like at my new place of employment but it can't be worse!

I work at a school . Every week in March ther eis Sprit Week. Depending on the theme, there is Crazy Hat, Green/Gold, Theme day (last year was Circus related)., etc.

Of course, even in Middle school, the teachers and students still dress up for Halloween. I would not have thought that, but tons of 6th graders still dress up!

There is Spirit day as well, every Friday.

There are potlucks and food almost every day in the teacher lounge.
