Okay, it is likely that many here missed this buried in my VWL review.

I am curious- Is it normal for the front desk to give just anyone a copy of your room account statement?
At our recent VWL visit my FIL ran out of cash, and opted to room charge. When he went to settle up his portion, the cast member at the front desk gave him a copy of our account activity. Not a big deal since he was a registered guest.... BUT, he was not required to show any ID what so ever. Not a room key, or driver's license..,. not even asked to give his name. They only wanted the room number.
I really did not like this, so when I got my account staus at check-out, I tested the waters.... Again, the cast member did NOT ask for any form of ID, or my name.
I do not like the fact that just anyone can examine our statement. I could have been nosey, and asked for my neighbors statement to see what they were up to.

Does this upset anyone else???

Very troublesome. Sounds like they need a process change at the front desk. Have you contacted Jackie?

When we checked out, our check out information (i.e. all our room charges) were slipped under the door - of the studio portion of our non-dedicated 2 BR. Which is where we had our guests. They were too polite to say that they had opened it, and I was to polite to ask. But I'm sure they did - and as we were "treating" they really didn't need to know the cost of the vacation.

Not a whole lot of difference in this and the fact that if you have express check-out your bill is in an envelope attached to the doorknob of your room. Anyone could gather these and check them out.

It would bother me.

I asked for our account statement a few times at Guest Services and was asked once to show a photo I.D.-which I was more than happy to supply.

your FIL must have a very honest face - yes the one time I did it I was asked to show my ID (room key).

One of the times I stayed at the Yacht Club they slipped the Express Check-out under my door as usual. I opened it up when I got up in the a.m. Took a quick look at the bottom line & it was about $3,000.00 more than I expected!:earseek:

All this before my first cup of coffee! Anyway, when blood returned to my brain, I checked the name on the summary sheet and it was someone elses. The envelope had my name & room number on it, just not my bill inside. I called the front desk and they just told me to drop by on my way out and they would re-print my bill. They were not too concerned about the mix-up either.

I assume that the other party received my summary, bet he was happy until he realized it was the wrong one. I wasn't happy about the mix-up either. But at least my experience was just a clerical error. I would be especially upset if I thought anyone could walk up to a person at the front desk and ask for information about room accounts without proving they were the registered paying guest of record for that room.

Mine have always been slid under the door, never left on the outside door handle.

Next time down I'll try it and see what happens. I don't know what usefull info some bizzybody could glean from my folio but it still isn't right that they don't have a little better handle on it.

MG....I almost responded to that in your original trip post, but wanted to know about the parasailing information more so I asked about that one. :p

I think this was yet another classic case of the "Which CM Did You Ask" syndrome at WDW. Ask three CM's the same question and get three answers. The CM at the front desk next to that one probably would have required ID.

I think the "customer satisfaction" bit is drilled into these men and women so much that sometimes they just say yes without thinking things through.

I am confident that showing anyone a room statement without ID is not standard policy, any more that giving someone an extra room key would be.

I am not trying to stir the pot but I think some people just look to find things they can complain about....if somebody asked for my bill at the front desk i hope they pay it.....as for the clerical errors they are just that errors...people think the dvc is above all human errors and is something special...you think the marriot ever made a clerical mistake..i have never been asked for id when i check out of any hotel anywhere..i give them my key and they give ma the bill and i pay it and leave....so my answer is no it would not bother me unless i had xrated movies on there that i bought and didnt want my fil to see them....

Ouch! It is obvious that you are referring to me here. I can assure you that I am not looking for something to complain about. I am one of the biggest Disney advocates/apologists on the planet. I would truly like nothing more than to be able to report back that everything was perfect.
I feel this board is a way for us Disney enthusiasts to make a good thing better. This is not a gripe board, but rather a friendly place that we can air our concerns, and work to improve things.

-Just my opinion...

I agree with golfnut-What do you care if some Busybody wants to look at your room charges???

I'll tell everyone Disney is TOO Darn Expensive!! Its NO secret! Everybody knows it! What were you trying to hide from your fil, anyway?

Besides, LOOKING at your room charges doesn't mean anything, they still can't use that info to charge with. BTW we just got back from WLV and I WAS asked for ID when I asked for my room charges.

Okay, I am not looking for a contraversy here, but... I don't think it is anyone's business how much I spent on dinner, where I ate, where I shop, my name & address, my reservation number, the last four digits of my credit card, my entire room key number ect...

I gotta stick up for MG here. If there is ever anyone who loves Disney and the VWL, it's MG (It really is a deluxe resort, really). Now if he would just stop jumping up on the highest chair and running his white gloved fingers along the top of the cabinets, we would be fine.;)

OUCH!!! There's no reason for harshness here. ";)

I was just stating the fact that you CAN'T use it as a charge.
I agree that people don't need to know your info and, I think, most people don't want to.

My husband always says "If somebody wants to rob you they will", but I don't think you have to worry about this being a security issue.

ps- I didn't mean to sound nasty, if it came across that way.

PSS- Hope, other than that, you had a great trip! We did!!

i am sorry if i offended you and you are not a complainer...but it was your fil who they gave the bill too..it was a vagrant off the street...i think the front desk at the bw is great..my guess is that noone every asked for a bill that was not his..there is no benefit to doing it....you think someone is going to ask for your bill and then stake out your room so they can all chuckle at you and say look there he is the guy or gal that eat at Spoodles and charged a six pack at the store...tak it all tongue in cheek.. i am justing having some fun with the posts...

Yes, we certainly had a great trip, and I am glad to hear you did also.

Thanx for the clarification...

I would really be happy if someone else received my bill as long as they paid for it. Lol pirate:

Well, I will say there is a fine line between complaining, and constructive criticism. I like to think of myself as doing the latter. I think we always must strive for perfection, and never 'settle'.

It is not the consequences of someone seeing my bill that bothers me, but rather the practice of just handing it out to anyone. The desk had no idea if it was my FIL, or a vagrant off the street. I hope this was a one time (or two time) mishap...

PS- Please give me some credit here.... I would have charged a case! :teeth:
