One note of advice since you mentioned your laundry room is on the first floor. DON'T get an LG. My washer was slowly dieing and did some research only to find out that a lot of reviews I read the biggest problem was the how bad the vibrations was on LG models. I looked on LG company web site and they recommend that the appliance be placed on a reinforced floor!
I opted for the Samsung 4.5cf and it does a great job. Even when on the high spin setting it is very quiet and very little vibration. The noise level is comparable to a fan running on a low setting. Cleans like a charm and man the clothes come out nearly dry. My drying time has been cut in half

Thanks. there is plenty of room for them to be stacked, the laundry room is on the first floor. if it was in the basement, side by side would not be a problem. This house was built less than a year ago and I cannot believe they didn't account for the size of new washer and dryer units, when they specifically built the room as a laundry room. I would put the w/d unit in the basement but there are no laundry hook ups down there.![]()
