I frankly just have no words when I see a response like this. It is amazing to me that one could even remotely believe the Iranians over their own countries. I am speechless....sort of.

You're right, Dawn. Bush and Blair have been bastions of honesty. Who could doubt them at this point?

And you can't believe your own eyes when you see the British sailors paraded in front of you, against Geneva Conventions Laws. They are after all uniformed soldiers representing and serving a soviergn country. Unbelievable that Armadinijhad is more credible to you. I don't think you would like living in Iran or under the laws that the Iranian people are forced to abide by.

Ha, that's funny! Apparently the Geneva Convention is useful when it suits your purposes, but not for anyone at Guantanamo. Anyway, I don't care a whit about a few captured well-treated Brits compared to the over 3,000 dead U.S. soldiers and the one featured in my newspaper today who had lost his sight, his hands, and his forearms.

Sorry, Blair, this is your issue.

Wasn't Armadinijhad elected? I seem to recall more reform moderate candidates on the ballot. They were defeated. The Iranian's voted for the person of their choice.

IMO, they were intentionally told to enter disputed waters. In effect, they were used as bait-- chumming for Iranians. Now, Bush and Blair would like to escalate this to a major conflict, but it won't stick. The British soldiers will be back home in no time flat, and this will all blow over. Nice try.

Are you implying that the Brits and/or US have somehow orchestrated this?? Please tell me that you're being sarcastic. If not, what would make you so certain that the Iranians won't "fall" for it, and when exactly will they be sending the soldiers back home??

My SIL was in Iran with a medical relief mission following the Bam, Iran earthquake. http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/now/oct1 They were under constant scutiny of the mullahs who attempted to discourage the line of Iranians accessing the American tent. These people who had virtually nothing begged the Americans to come back. When they were forced to leave early, these people who had less than nothing brought gifts to give to the Americans. They bypassed the tents of France, Germany, etc a stood in line, injured for hours to see Americans. One wonders how open and honest their elections were. Mullahs did their best to stifle any conversation and then when that didn't work, demanded that they leave early and leave their equipment behind. And then they didn't want the plane that would evacuate them to land.

In 2004, when the same thing happened, they sent the British sailors home in a couple of days. With the U.S. and Blair trying to make a mountain out of a molehill, it's delayed things.

Here's an interesting BBC article about the disputed waters. They aren't well marked, and there is no definite boundary. The Brits know to stay clear of disputed waters, but this time they didn't. I wonder why.

So why has Bush been quiet thus far?? Why has Blair been firm about their immediate and safe return, but certainly not threatening??

Were the French and Germans being made to leave also?

No. They stayed. The American tent was overwhelmingly popular. Many of the older Iranians remembered when the United States had a presence in Iran and they were thrilled to have Americans back. People came to the tent who weren't even injured just to see them. It presented a real problem for the Mullahs who increased their presence on a daily basis until they were thrown out. Remember, DMAT was totally non political. It was strictly a relief mission. My SIL says she can't recall seeing so many deliveries. Earthquakes and natural disasters seem to precipitate labor. Their homes and everything they had was reduced to rubble.

I wonder if Blair might not have diplomatically said to Bush to sit down and shut up, and let us handle this. Some people say that if this had happened to US sailors we'd have been bombing already. Someone has to do some clear thinking somewhere.
Also, you have to realize that Iran isn't some little country with 2 goats and a jeep. They have more people than the UK.

So you'd be OK with the Iranian's taking US hostages again and wouldn't want us to immediately respond if it happened right before our eyes?

Personally, I would have sunk the boat that was trying to take our sailors as hostages.

No. They stayed.

Umm. Then, of course the Americans were brought gifts for their departure and the other countries were not. They were not departing. Am I missing a part of your story? Or were you trying to make a point by leaving out details?

Were you expecting a floating yellow line??:rotfl2: Just because the Iranians dispute it doesn't make it so.

Read the article, Dawn. The border was marked by bouys. There were regular meetings to discuss the border, but they haven't taken place for a few years because of the war. The same type of incident happened in 2004 and was resolved peacefully. Blah, blah, blah. It's a good article. Or, you can just keep talking from your.. oh, well, whatever.

What details do you want? These people who had absolutely nothing didn't want the Americans to leave. They cried, they brought gifts. The DMAT workers did not want or expect gifts. The injured walked by the tents of other countries and lined up for hours to see the Americans. Did they bring gifts to the Germans or French? I have no idea. The Americans had left by then but clearly, they were welcomed by the people and quite unwelcomed by the Mullahs and representatives of the Iranian government.

And who set the bouys? Remember when Iran set the mines? We blew up their navy!
