Do you wearyour wedding set everyday?

So get this.....
I called our homeowners insurance today to make sure my diamond was on our insurance. Good thing I did because we had no jewelry on our policy. DH changed companies and neglected to add my ring!!!! :scared1: You'd think seeing he paid thousands of dollars for it he would have thought about insuring it. What a ding dong! I added it to our policy today! :thumbsup2 Everything happens for a reason.

I haven't worn my rings since I was expecting my youngest son, now 12. DH stopped wearing his long before that because of the dangers of wearing it while using tools.

I don't feel any less married, though I'm sure people sometimes wonder since I also use my maiden name, not my husband's surname.

I wear mine every day. They aren't the original ones, but that is another thread altogether.

Christmas 2009, DH decided to get my diamond reset for me, since it was in yellow gold and I had started preferring white gold. I was without it for a couple of weeks, and it felt strange. A couple months after that, I had the solitaire put together with my wrap, and I was again without it for a week or two.

I would have a local jeweler fix it, but I would continue to wear it after that. I have my prongs checked every six months or so, just in case.

I have bee married for 38 yrs now and have never gone a day without wearing my rings. I just refuse to take them off. They tried to get me to during my back surgeries, and no dice. Hubby has broken his 2x and it no longer fits his finger, me still wearing them, no repair needed. Don't know if I could bear to leave them. They just mean so much to me and I hang on tight to them just as I hang on tight to my relationship with my hubby.

I wear mine everyday but take it off during packing of orders, gardening and any big projects. It is a set and the band is soldered to the engagement ring.

I have it checked twice a year (there's no cost since I bought it at the place) and it's been good so far. This ring I've had about 15 years now.

My first wedding ring set - I lost the diamond when one of the prongs broke. I actually wasn't attached to that set since I didn't like it (he picked it out without me) but I did wear it daily for just about 13 years and was able to talk my husband into letting me get a new set that I picked out.

I've been married for 45 yrs and have never taken my wedding ring off unless DH was there to put it back on. I'm on my third ring, this one has 5 diamonds (bought when we had been married for 20 yrs, one stone for each 4 years) in a channel setting so no prongs to worry about.

Wedding band I almost never take off, engagemnt ring I almost never put on. :goodvibes

I adore wearing a wedding band, it makes me feel so special, but the engagemnt ring is just annoying to me. I am not a big jewelry person though. The only thing I ever wear is my wedding ring.

Weird thing though, I was sick for the last few weeks. Everything bothered me, I didn't even want to wear underwear and wore big PJs that were way too big cause my skin literally hurt. I took my ring off cause of that. It waas the longest I have ever gone without it. As soon as I was better I put it back on and I had a weird reaction to it. :confused3 My finger is red, itchy, peeling . Never had that happen before. I wonder if it has something to do with the meds I was on? :confused3 DH said if it continues we could go get a sealent on the inside of the ring. I was just surpried that after 17 years of wearing it almost non stop that would happen.

I don't wear mine everyday but it isn't always by design. If I put them on they stay on until they (or DH LOL) irritate me. Then I put them in a ring box and forget about them for a while.

A few years ago DH was really getting on my nerves and they stayed in the box more often than not, I guess he was helping preserve them ;)

Seriously, though, if the ring itself means that much to you (mine don't but it doesn't mean I'm not committed to my marriage!) then I would get it fixed so I could wear it daily. As someone else pointed out it can fall out that one time you wear it anyway.

A friend was told by a jeweler not to wear it at night because it can get caught in the threads of your sheets and such.

I never wear any jewelry at night. Just a matter of preference but I could so see things getting snagged, etc... Plus I did work in a jewelry department for a while...our repair person always said you should also taking it off washing your hands, putting lotion on, etc... because otherwise you get the build up stuff. I don't know I always did.

Then again, I'm not one who can say much as my wedding rings don't even fit. I can't remember the last time I wore them. DH gave me his wedding band for safe keeping since he pretty doesn't wear any jewelry & I'm not even sure where it's AT. OOPS! I do know where mine is at and eventually will have it re-sized but it's just one of those expenses that other things overshadow.

I love my rings and wear them every day. I don't think they have been off in years. One of my coworkers convinced me to take them off when I was about 8 months pregnant with my first DD who is now 10 (she knew someone who had to have hers cut off prior to a c-section). I never even thought about it with my next two DDs and was fine.

I have been married almost 15 years and did have to get several prongs replaced on the engagement ring a year or so after I got married. It wasn't expensive. I would have it fixed.

I've had my engagement ring since 1995 and I wear both every day. Have had it resized a couple of times. Nothing is the same size it was when I was 19 LOL

I had gold added to the band when it had thinned about 10 years ago and am about to take it to get the prongs redone to the stones on the sides as they have worn down. Just dropped off my 10th anniversary 3 diamond ring today to get fixed as one of the stones moved.

It's just one of those things that has to be done every so often. Like getting new tires on your car. They just have wear and tear!

When my daughter and I went to WDW 6/09 my 1 carat emerald cut diamond fell out of my wedding ring. It was horrible. How do you search for a diamond at WDW? It's impossible because I don't know when it fell out and where we were. We hopped all over and rode buses, swam in pool. Take care of your ring!!!

Get it fixed...or trade it in for an anniversary band or something similar. You sound very attached to it...so I would hate to see you wear it for only special occassions and still lose the diamond.

I, sadly, can't wear my engagement ring or my wedding band...I'm allergic to the metal (14k white gold). I'm totally bummed. But, my DH and I have talked about trading in my engagement ring in the next 5 years or so for an anniversary band/ring I can wear all the time without breaking out.

Good luck!!

I wear mine pretty much every day, take them off only when I'm having a bought of edema. But...I've already lost my original diamond. I went to Gymboree shopping for youngest DS when the ring caught on a hanger. I had to literaly unhook it. The diamond looked fine but by the time I left the store or shortly there after the diamond was gone. Went back to the store and searched checked as I walked back, they were going to look at what they swept up at the end of the night and did call me to say they didn't find it. I was devastated. I'd just taken my rings to have them resized and checked over, etc. so my prongs were really good and strong so wearing them for special occaisions only is definitely no guarantee that the diamond will remain safe. DH did get me a new bigger diamond for Christmas that year and I've been wearing it for 6 years now.

The moral of my story, as PP have suggested I'd say take it have it repaired and wear it in happiness and good health.

I've been married 26 years and have not worn my ruby/diamond engagement ring and wedding ring for about 20 years. My DH bought me a really nice larger marquise ruby/diamond ring at that time and that's what I wear. However, I only wear it when I go out of the house. First thing I do when I get home is take off all my jewelry. We live in a rural area and I do a lot of hard physical work everyday and no jewelry will stand up to that kind of abuse. :cool2:

I lost my princess cut diamond around 11 years ago. I was on vacation and had no idea how it happened. I did have insurance but I had to pay a deductible. I decided at the time that i wasn't getting the new diamond set in my ring. I bought a diamonique but I guess it was a cheap one and the ring didn't last. So, I went without out one for awhile. I finally decided to get the diamond set and reinstated in insurance. I guess it is time to go have it checked. Haven't had it checked since.:rolleyes1 you think I would have learned my lesson.

I'm not married, but if I was I don't think I'd ever take it off besides sleeping. Currently I wear my since-passed grandfather's monogrammed gold ring that I got resized on my right hand ring finger and NEVER take it off.. I have quite the ring tan lines.

Anyways, did you guys know you wear your wedding ring on that particular finger because the artery that goes through your ring finger is the one that goes closest to the heart? :lovestruc

I had almost the exact same thing happen to me when I got a new set. Itchy red peeling skin underneath. It turned out to be the hand soap I was using getting trapped unerneath the band. I started taking it off when I washed my hands and putting it back on after I dried and that fixed the problem. It had never happened with my old set, and the new set was 14k white gold just like the old one.

I actually had my grandmother's wedding set and my husband proposed with the engagement ring. Since the set survived two generations of divorces, I obtained my father's blessing to reset the main engagement ring diamond into a brand new set. My husband and I actually picked out my wedding band first and an engagement ring to match. Because of that, I LOVE my wedding band and NEVER take it off. The engagement ring I only wear on special occasions.
