Do you wearyour wedding set everyday?

I have a size 3.5 finger as well. I only wear my wedding set and anniversary
ring my DH gave me for our 20th. It is soooo hard to find rings in this size !!

I wear a 4 and my jeweler put a little gold bar acrossed the back of a size 5 and it fits perfectly...it only cost $5.00.

I didn't wear my set hardly at all. I would wear a phony set if at all. I work a lot with my hands and really did not want to take any chances. Then we got robbed. All of my chains and earrings were gone when I got home. Just by chance the robber did not know to lift the lid on my jewelry case and all of my rings were safe. I was horrified at the loss of my gold, but more horrified at how close I came to losing my wedding set. I now wear them to work and anytime that I leave the house. I feel that it is safer on me than in my house when I am not there. I have left only phony jewelry in my case and the rest is elsewhere. I would caution everyone to not keep good, real jewelry in anything that can be identified as a jewelry box, etc. Use it as a decoy.

Sorry that happened to you my Mum was robbed they took her wedding ring and engagement ring very sad all Jewellry my father brought her was gone sad as she lost my dad no way to replace memories of these items.

You woud not believe how many men lose fingers or arms by getting caught in machinery.

I work in a machine shop. I'm not a machinist, but I clean the machinery. I always have my hands in grease and solvents. Even with gloves on, I still get very dirty. On occasion, they will let me use the big machines for something easy. I would imagine that it would wreck my rings pretty quick.

I haven't worn my rings in probably two years. My mom gave me her beautiful wedding set-and I'd never risk destroying in the shop. I gave my DD my original engagement ring and sold my band for scrap. :bride:

I never wear my ring around the house but always when I go out. Funny how it doesn't bug me not to have them on at home but if I go to work and forget to put them on I feel naked. I was also told not to wear them when putting on hand lotion, swimming (cause the chlorine isn't good for it) or washing my hands. I have a gold band from Avon that I wear when we go on vacation and leave my diamond in the safety deposit box.

I am not married any more.....awwwwww :rotfl:

But for the ten year that I was married I wore my ring every day except when my hands swelled when I was pregnant. I loved that ring.

My sister lost her center diamond, it fell out of her ring. Thankfully she found it in her car. She said that it was a lot smaller out of the ring what it looked like in the ring.

Didn't read all the posts, but yes I wear mine every day. But I do not sleep, shower or wear them to the beach or in a pool I also get my ring checked yearly. My ins. co requires it to be checked by a jeweler every 3 years, but I do it each year anyway, just in case. And it is free to check at the jewelery story where I purchased the ring.

My mom's diamond fell out of her enagagement ring last year...we searched and searched but never found it. She was so crushed...my dad scraped to buy it for her 38 years ago. He wanted to replace it for her this Christmas, but she said she would only want her original diamond because it had such sentimental value...she now wears only her band and has moved on from it, but I know how sad she was for a long time.

I don't take mine off. Not for swimming or showering or hand lotioning. I don't make meatloaf either. ;) I have a permanent indent in my finger from the rings always being there. My rings are platinum though so they don't wear out/down at all. They've been on my finger for nearly 9yrs now. I do get the diamonds checked a few times a year though. I believe it's required to get it done every 6mths for our warranty.
I have an odd sentimental attachment to our rings though. DH's ring broke and Jared's lifetime warranty (HA!) only meant that they'd give us our money back. They said it could no longer be repaired and they've repaired it like 10x already. As in what cost us $300 9yrs ago, wouldn't even get us a thin plain band now. The saleslady tried to fight for us and she even said she didn't even have a gold band in the store that cost that little. His ring would cost $800-900 now. So I just snapped off the broken piece and he wears it all weird and broken. He can't replace it with something else (my attachment issue) so we need to get it melted down someplace and remade into another ring for him.

DH and I never really wore our bands that often. He works with troubled young men who often need physical restraints and he was advised not to wear jewelry of any kind because it could snag on clothes or get tangled in hair. I stopped wearing my set when my kids were babies. I scratched my DD on her face. Last year when money ran really, really tight we decided to sell the wedding bands. The engagement ring is in my jewelry box as we speak. I don't miss the rings because they were just rings....the vow I made to my DH lives in my heart every day as it does in his. :)

If I am at home, they are off. I can't stand to wear jewelry it bugs me to death. But, if I step out for anything, the rings go on. I wasn't always like this, only in the past 5 years or so, have I started taking them off at home.

I always thought I was freaky for not wearing my set 24/7 - glad to see I'm not alone after all! :rotfl:

I wear mine when I'm going out of the house. I usually take them off when I'm inside. I never wear mine to bed, in the shower, or if I'm doing anything messy. If I'm doing an activity out of the house that might be where I could lose them (like canoeing or skiing) they stay at home.

My mother had a ring that had a huge stone in it. One day, that stone fell out and was lost. I always have that in my mind.

Also, my college roommate lost her engagement ring once in the gym locker room. She took it off to do a sport and never found it again. That's why when I'm doing any sports mine stays at home.

I wear mine all the time, only took them off when I was pregnant and my fingers swelled too much. After 17 years of marraige, my engagement ring is wearing thin underneath, and is no longer round, but the prongs are OK. DH sometimes talks about replacing it with a bigger diamond (we were crazy poor when we got married and it's tiny) but I'm not a big jewelry kind of girl and I'm not sure I want a bigger one! I love it for what it is, and I don't really care about the size.
My mom also gave me her anniversary ring that my Dad had her engagement diamond set into after her original setting fell apart... my dad has been gone now for 10 years and my mom doesn't wear the ring anymore. She wants me to wear it on their anniversary, Dad's birthday, anniversary of his death, etc... but even tho it's insured, I'd feel absolutely terrible if I ever lost it!

I take them off at night or if I am doing some really messy housework or cooking. I am pretty careful with wearing rings of any sort in the wintertime. I fell on the ice once, sprained my ring finger, and was luckily able to stick my hand in a snowbank to ease the swelling--otherwise it would have meant a trip to the ER to have my rings removed.

I wear my wedding ring everyday, but I recently stopped wearing my engagement ring except for special occasions. It is an antique and a rare stone. After 8 years of daily wear, bent a prong and sent it in for repair and cleaning. Due to the unusual stone, our jeweler in Chicago had to send it to New York! I love my ring and I really miss it being on my finger. I have been considering getting a stand in.

To the previous poster who isn't wearing her ring because her DH bent it in a room safe. My platinum ring was bent years ago, it only cost about $20 to have it made back into a circle. Had I known it was such an inexpensive repair, I would have taken it in much earlier!!

For those of you who have their ring on a rider to their home owners insurance - be sure to know exactly what is and isn't covered. Many policies only cover if your ring is stolen out of your house, not if it is lost, damaged or stolen anywhere else. If your ring is worth more than you care to pay to replace it, it is worth getting a separate jewelry policy. The peace of mind is worth it for us.

No problem! Just get your prongs fixed! I take my ring in every year for them to check the prongs and such. Not expensive to fix at all!

I've got lots of bling but I usually ony wear them when we go out. Each peice has a different story and who gets what (my kids) depends on the story!:lmao: I have my favorite pieces then I have some that you just have to laugh.
I'll bore you with a story.DH bought me a tiny 13 diamond ring for my pinky if I would stop biting my nails. It was $79 30 years ago. I got it appraised about 15 years later & put it the insurance. A few years later we went to a Buffett concert in Pitt and I must have lost it tucking in my shirt. I made him go search the port a pot:eek: for it. Didn't find it and he refused to drain the pot. Insurance paid out $600 and I found one on Ebay about 5 years later. I swear it is the same ring because one stone was aways set crooked.

BTW, I do like my tennis bracelet and probaby coud never have it replaced even insured.

every year i do take in my jewelry and it seems every time my tennis bracelet needs to be sent out to have the links re sodered. I actually priced a new one to trade it in & was floored to see it had in increased in price ten-fold, price of gold i guess:confused3

fyi, that was a funny story, glad it all worked out in the end;)

Sorry that happened to you my Mum was robbed they took her wedding ring and engagement ring very sad all Jewellry my father brought her was gone sad as she lost my dad no way to replace memories of these items.

must add i do take off all jewelry when cruising in many ports...no sense chancing a robbery or having an accident/jewelry catching on something when doing an active excursion imo. I just put in the safe & back on it goes when we return to the ship.

I sort of don't understand why people would wear ANY jewelry 24/7, but that's just me.

I wear my rings when I feel like it. When I don't, I take them off.

DH hates wearing his ring (and a watch). He wears it when he's out of the house. The second he walks in the door, it's the first thing he puts away.

I used to grade diamonds at GIA a few years ago. FYI, wearing diamonds while showering, cleaning the house using chemicals, working out (sweating) etc....it's all bad. MANY common chemicals can damage diamonds. They are not indestructable. Even prolonged contact with perspiration can etch diamonds or cause them to crack.

The only thing you should ever use to clean a diamond is distilled water with a drop of Dawn (or similar) NON ANTIBACTERIAL dish soap. That's what we used to clean off diamonds during the grading process at GIA. Anything more harsh than that can damage them.

I was wearing mine everyday, no only for special occations, but still find that I want to play with it

Brought my wedding ring of 15 years in to be cleaned yesterday and had a rude awakening. My prongs holding my diamond in are so worn down that they are flush to the diamond. The jeweler told me I should get a new head put on or I am in danger of losing my diamond :scared1: My husband suggested I don't wear it everyday and only on special occassions but I feel an emotional attachment to it. Do you have a ring you wear as a replacement for your wedding ring for everyday? I was looking at the diamonique rings on QVC.
