Do you wear your engagement/wedding ring(s) on vacations?

I generally don't take them off to travel. However, I might consider it if I were going to a place where robbery might be a real concern.

I love those stats. Good luck finding a decent 1-2 carat stone for 6K. Weddings in NoVA are expensive. My parents refused to spend a lot when I got married in 1981. The entire wedding, including my dress cost about $1500. My mom and some friends made the food and we had music at our backyard reception. My original engagement rink cost less than $500 so not even 1/3 of a very inexpensive wedding. DS and DDIL spent 10K in 2013 on their wedding. $2500 of that was the venue. And, that was a very simple wedding and reception.

I doubt they mean single stone, the stats likely refer to total weight, as side stones are so popular now. I haven't been in a jewelry store in years, but I worked for some chains in college and the average person, IME, isn't always interested in quality. Zales.com has some 2.5 CTW rings (that I personally do not care for) for under 4k. And even 1ct solitaires "certified" for that price. They are by no means great stones by many peoples standards, but the average mall jewelry store customer doesn't know much about cut, clarity and color.

I'm totally with you on the insane cost of weddings here though. DH and I ended up having a destination wedding and I was shocked at how much cheaper the food, wine, flowers, cake, and even venue was in Italy vs here.

I have never taken my rings off except for surgeries, having the prongs replaced or occasionally some household things like painting or gardening. I sleep, shower, and pretty much just forget I am wearing them. I lose my earrings all the time so I am pretty sure I would lose my rings if I took them off regularly.

I have always worn them, my wedding set and my anniversary rings, when traveling and never thought anything of it. But I do have a habit of turning the stones to the inside of my hand (palm side) when I feel uncomfortable so it looks like I am just wearing a band.

However, we are cruising for the first time this winter to some ports that report theft of tourists. You all have given me pause to think. No way would I leave rings in the ship safe as I would lose them. I think I will go look at some cheap CZ bands to wear on the cruise and leave the real rings at home. I would hate to take the chance of losing my real rings but I have to wear something otherwise I feel nekkid. My ring is my fidget spinner as I am constantly spinning the solitaire around my finger (diagnosed adult ADHD.)

My wedding ring is a cheap substitute, LOL. It's made of Sterling Silver and has a scrap value of maybe fifty bucks. If someone wants it bad enough to steal it they can have it.

I'm in the camp that never removes their rings, and they are insured, but TBQH, the insurance could never replace those rings. I don't normally get attached to objects, but my rings are crazy-sentimental to me. I'd be devastated if they were stolen. Of course, i'm pretty sure the thief would have to chop my finger off, cause I'm not sure they can be removed on their own at this point.

Mine are well insured, too. That doesn't mean I can replace them. I am a sentimental person though and things like that mean a lot to me, where they may not mean as much to others.

I too, turn my rings. I've read where things have been taken from hotel, and ship safes so... just staying safe!

Generally, I don't wear mine on vacation. My fingers have swollen at night ever since I was pregnant with DS, which means I have to take my rings off every night. I don't want to accidentally leave them since I have to take them off. And, if I'm going to be in the ocean, I fear losing my stone in the water, so it's easier just to not have it along.

Oh, and I've had comments before from friends who believe I'm being disrespectful by removing mine. I just laugh & go on with life. DH wears his maybe 1 day a week, but I know he loves me. I wear mine every day except vacation. And I've never gotten hit on just because I wasn't wearing it. Although, the "dragging three kids along in my wake" picture probably isn't hitting on all that for the guys!

Similar. Rings to mark milestone anniversaries. Usually they match or coordinate with the wedding set. I have a channel set 10 year anniversary band, a 15 year three stone and a 25 year infinity/eternity band (stones go all the way around.) The styles aren't really specific to the years just what I liked at the time.

So glad I'm not the only one who doesn't wear their rings 24/7. I get such crap from people for it but my fiance designed a unique band that unfortunately catches on stuff sometimes. So when I'm home I usually take it off as I come inside and put it back in the ring box. Mostly do it because I have scratched my dogs eye with it one time and I felt so bad. As soon as I'm walking out the door I always put it back on but someone tried to tell me I was being disrespectful of the commitment when they found out I don't always wear it. I'm shocked at ladies who can sleep in theirs.

I rarely wear mine. My fingers swelled after a plane ride years ago and I had a hard time getting them off on vacation. So I haven't worn them on vacation since. And washing my hands 234233 x/day as a nurse caused a lot of irritation under them so I started not wearing them at all. Now I'm going to go look for them because I'm not 100% sure where they are at the moment. And really don't care about someone else's opinion on my level of commitment

I always wear my wedding band, but I don't always wear my "stone" rings (my engagement ring is an emerald, and I wear an opal on my right hand) even at home. I didn't take them on our last vacation, as we were doing two water parks, and I didn't want to worry about them.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, as I only read the first page, but when we were younger, DH and I always used to get our rings cleaned right before we traveled. People would think we were on our honeymoon!

My wedding ring, which doubled as an engagement ring, is insured through the jewelry company (for certain things) as well as through homeowner's insurance. It carries high sentimental value for me as well. I'm not sure if it could be exactly replaced but we have had 2 appraisals on it (due to insurance purposes) in the time since purchasing 5 years ago. The first appraisal was very detailed with really good quality pictures too so at least there are those detailed notes on it. I have wondered if it was worth it to get a mold done on the ring just in case but I haven't personally known anyone who has done that before.

You will not LOSE your rings if you leave them in the ship safe! YOU choose the code to get in - the safe is the most "safe" place if you choose not to wear them. Not many ports are iffy, I've been to most in the Caribbean and Jamaica is the only one I would be concerned about at all - and I would likely wear mine there, too.

Not saying the ship safe is not safe. I have a very bad habit of forgetting things. If I put them in the safe I would walk off the ship forgetting they were in there. Or I would take them out of the safe, put them on the counter and promptly lose them. This is on me, not the ship's safe. No need to yell.
