Do you wear tennis shoes with jeans??

I think of jeans with heels as my bar days when we wanted to pick up guys. :)

I'll be honest... if I am "slumming" (ie wearing an old t-shirt and ready to be grubby) I will wear tennis shoes with jeans.

Otherwise I wear anything from sandals, to slides, to boots, to wedges with my jeans. I am short so a lot of my shoes have heels to them, but I don't wear high heels with jeans. I hope that makes sense.

I also admit nothing makes me cringe more than seeing a man wearing a polo shirt or other non t-shirt and then sporting tennis shoes. Wear some loafers or other casual shoes but do NOT wear tennis shoes with polos.

I definitely feel that your shirt and shoes should match in style. Jeans aren't just casual and made for t-shirts only... they never have, they can be dressed up for women with a cute casual knit top of sorts.

For the PPs I am not desperate or in need of loving either. I am 30 and happily married. I just believe you should match your style throughout your outfit (no differnt than matching brown shoes with a brown belt)

See, I'm just flabbergasted that anyone would even notice something like this! I am so out of the loop with things like that. It would never even occur to me to cringe.

Okay I don't truly cringe, but I do notice.

I have a very anal type of personality. I have a tendency to notice the very minor physical things on people. It's not that I think people have to look a certain way, I just notice minor things in general. Like I can notice when a guy's side burns are less than 1/4" off from each other. I don't even try to look for these things, but they just hit my eye and "jump out" often. I don't pick on people for things, I just simply can notice things quickly like a drill sgt does.

I honestly never wore tennis shoes with jeans until I was in college. I did it for comfort then. After college, I only did it if I wore crappy clothes.

To me it isn't something that belongs. Tennis shoes and real clothes (not athletic) really don't belong together IMO.

Of course if you walk far distances or go to an amusement park, then comfort of feet does come first. I don't take notice to this kind of thing at WDW at all. At work though, we'd discuss this and with a few friends off and on. We never understood why guys thought they should wear such casual shoes with nicer clothing.

It became a "guy vs gal" thing and kind of a joke. I still don't like it and yes, if my DH were to do it I'd make him change his shoes.

I guess everyone has their own thing... but nothing should be that flabbergasting about me noticing when someone doesn't match their shoes to the rest of their outfit :confused3

It's okay Elaine, you just send all those guys with their polos and tennis shoes to me, I'll be glad to take your leftovers..... :)

Sorry...my shoes rarely, if ever, match my outfit. I mean they sort of do...like if I wear a black suit I wear black shoes, etc...but I have maybe 7 pairs of shoes (including my sneakers and crocs)...I hate shoes. They're almost impossible for me to find in my size and my feet have been damaged by shoving them in shoes that don't fit right for so long they hurt if I wear much of a heal at all.

I figure what I put on my feet is my business and what you put on yours is yours...please don't think I'm a mis-matched slob if my shoes don't match...picture the many times as a teenager I cried in the shoe store because all they had in my size were men's shoes and "granny shoes"

(by the way, one thing I really hate is toe cleavage....but you're welcome to wear it if you want)

Some in a previous post said that they did not understand how jeans with tennis shoes would be considered skanky. I am the OP on this thread and that is what my co-worker said, not me. I just really don't think about that kind of stuff that much. I don't dress to impress I guess you would say. I dress to make myself happy and if that is jeans, a t-shirt and my Nike Shoxx then that is what I am going to wear (and I'm not talking about to work, just in my personal life.)

Some of it might have to do with the fact that I have flat feet and weak ankles and having to balance myself on heels is too much work and can become quite painful after about an hour. :thumbsup2

Wear the Tennis shoes!

As A man...when I see a women in jeans with heels on first thing I think of is that she's probably pretty easy and desperate for some lovin.

Jeans are NOT dressy so I don't understand why people try to make them be dressed up.

Guess it depends on where you live too. In SoCal, EVERYONE wears nice jeans dressed up. Not levis usually, but $150+ jeans.

In NY, some do, but not as many.

Well, I have my "hot jeans" that I wear to dinner that are dressy. With pumps, wedges or tall boots. Then I have my "mom" jeans that I wear with sneakers to softball games, etc.

I wouldn't wear my True Religion or Seven Jeans with sneakers though.

I'll wear flip flops with just about anything.

Jeans ARE casual. They are NOT dressy.......I don't care what kind of top you dress them up with. You don't wear them to a formal event or to a professional workplace. So you can wear them with any casual shoe. That includes a tennis shoe.

For heaven's sake quit looking at how everyone around you is dressed and experience life instead. Talk to people, look around, notice the world, not the people's clothes.

General statement.......not personal to anyone on the thread.

I wouldn't wear them to a formal event! Probably not work either. Maybe on a casual day, but it is rare.

I wear what I wear and I don't worry about what other people wear.

But other than when I'm joking around (ie, about "mom" jeans, etc) I am a non-judgemental person and don't worry about the things that don't matter in life.

So my bottom line is that I really don't care how people are dressed. Not even on my list of important things. It's not that I never notice if something really stands out, either tacky or really nice, but it's only a slight notice... nothing I would cringe over or pay any attention to.

And for the record, I often wear sneakers with jeans...sometimes wear other casual shoes, sometimes flip flops. I am not exactly the most stylish dresser in general, though. :rotfl:

When I say jeans can be dressy, I don't mean dressy in the sense that you can wear them to the opera, a funeral, or even church. But jeans are very versatile. I worked in an office that stopped having casual day because people thought that casual meant torn up jeans, sweats, or flannal shirts worn over stained t-shirts.

Jeans can be casual AND dressy, in a jeans sort of way. When I want comfortable feet and a casual look, I go for a lighter wash Calvin Kleins and my colored Kangaroos tennis shoes or flip flops. I wouldn't say white tennis shoes are skanky, but dated. I can get a little dressier with a darker wash Calvin Kleins and loafers or modest heels. If I'm going out with friends to dinner or a movie, I'll wear my David Kahn's jeans with (dare I say it??) heels. And I am not easy or "desperate for some lovin".

If I'm super casual, then I wear sweats. If I'm at a wedding, funeral, or church, I'll wear a dress. But between the two, there is a broad spectrum that jeans can fill.

I have never seen anywhere here wearing high heels with jeans.
In Chicago you've never seen that? I saw it everywhere when I was there last summer.

I also admit nothing makes me cringe more than seeing a man wearing a polo shirt or other non t-shirt and then sporting tennis shoes. Wear some loafers or other casual shoes but do NOT wear tennis shoes with polos.
OMG, my DH tried to do this the other day and with white tennis shoes no less. I asked him if he was Jerry Seinfeld and made him but his leather skechers on. :rotfl:

I think your co-worker is thinking of the word frumpy, not skanky. In no way are tennis shoes skanky.

They most certainly can be dressy. No one said they would wear them to a formal event. But I will wear jeans, heels and a cute top out to a nice restaurant. And my DH is a professional and his office is casual, so yes he can wear jeans to his professional workplace.

And truly, I don't care what other people wear. I only care for myself to look nice. I have chosen to wear tennis shoes with my jeans, but I did it knowing that I didn't look particularly stylish that day.

ONLY if I'm wearing a sweatshirt or something like that, and even then, only if I'm doing some volunteer work that involves cleaning up something, or some other activity that involves manual labor or exercise of any kind.

Otherwise, it's high heeled strappy sandals in the spring through fall, and boots in the winter. Even if I'm wearing a casual tee-shirt with the jeans, I wear sandals in the summer or mocs in the winter.

My mom wore her white princess lowcut Reeboks with her Lee easy rider jeans for years, and I FINALLY broke her of the habit, by showing her how comfortable Clarks and Merrells could be.

Dh has absolutely NO style, but the first thing I put the smackdown on when we got married was white tennis shoes with jeans. He will wear grey or brown trail shoes by Columbia or North Face with jeans, but only to work. At night, out to dinner? Lace up black or brown dressier shoes, but with a thicker sole than a dress shoe.

And, Mr. Horned King, my DH happens to LOVE me in high heels, and thinks my legs and butt look fantastic in them. So if that makes me 'easy' and 'desperate for loving' more power to me... If he's happy, then I'm DEFINITELY happy! :)

well, since I work in a factory, yes i wear tennis shoes with jeans every day. So do most of the people I work with. Some do have to wear steel toed shoes, so they can't.
I'd look pretty funny walking around pushing a pallet jack in heels, wouldn't I? I may get some help pushing it though! ;)

Only in WDW or somewhere I'm doing a LOT of walking. I do occasionally wear jeans with Keds (I have a couple cute pairs just for that purpose, which I think is What Not to Wear approved.) Most of the rest of the time, I wear heels with my jeans. I have numerous people comment on how "nice" I look, when the only thing I was doing different was pairing heels with my jeans. I think my sneakers look bulky and weird with my jeans. (MY stuff. Don't care what other people wear.) Heck, I even wear jeans and heels to the playground with the baby - a nice low heel still gives me the ability to run after him.

I definitely feel that your shirt and shoes should match in style.

You would have CRINGED the other day - DH was wearing a white polo and black pants for a volunteer thing. He wanted to wear BROWN loafers and a brown belt, since he didn't have black shoes or a black belt that fit. I made him wear his military dress shoes (comfort schmofort, he can wear them for hours at formal military events!) and made him go without a belt. And the next day we went out and bought him a new black belt. :sad2:
