Do you tip the mousekeepers?

First I am shocked this is what you would think of when your son is sick!:confused3
No flaming here, just not sure why this is an issue... you use a hotel room you tip mousekeeping, this is not rocket science.

Everytime I tip bell services, room service, valet should I think they pool money as well????:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

P.S. When I handed a tip to our mousekeeper on the way out Tuesday plus a bottle of champagne I wonder how they cut the champagne into pieces...:rotfl:

Please feel free to post a copy of this 'email' that you received, including all headers, so that it can be authenticated.

Do you really expect anyone to believe that your housekeepers stated that their tips go towards "vacation days, tickets to the parks, and free dinners"? What are they expected to do with park tickets, send them to their families in Central America? Their vacation days are ALREADY provided by Disney, and what kind of 'free dinners' would they provide, maybe V&A's? That is a real bonus for someone working to support a family 'back home'. :lmao:

What do you think you are accomplishing by posting this rubbish? This morning, I called EACH and EVERY Disney resort except Ft. Wilderness and Saratoga springs (the numbers are listed online at many of the common websites, including wdwinfo.com) I asked each of the people answering the telephones, who are trained to answer such questions, if housekeeping at THEIR resort was a tipped or non tipped position, in each case the answer was "tipped" or "it is up to the guest to decide whether or not to tip". Then I asked if the housekeepers are allowed to keep their tips, and the answer was "YES" at every one of the resorts. If anyone would like to repeat this experiment to verify, please report your results here as well. It took me less than 30 minutes on my cell phone (free long distance) to call 22 resorts. That you continue to perpetuate this myth through the telling of obviously fabricated stories is not only an affront to our intelligence, but a blatant attempt on your part to reduce the income of some of Disney's hardest working employees.

I personally tip between $3 and $5 per day at Disney for my family of 4, $3 for average and $5 for extra-good service. Tipping IS a choice, and I don't begrudge those who don't tip (it's your money!), but I DO dislike it when people try to stop OTHERS from tipping through the spread of false information.

Well with your 4 post may want to go back and read several other pages of these same situations of others that have been told the same thing by many CM's. No one is telling anyone to tip or not to tip, and no one is trying to take anything away from any of the Mousekeepers. This was in a discussion on how so many people are told very different things including the tipped and non tipped postions at Disney.
I had never heard of this policy either until this thread myself and that was when I started looking in to it. I have been told what I relaid on...others have been told otherwise. This is something that does not just happen on the subject of Mousekeeping, but refillable mugs, pool hopping etc. There are always going to be debates about these issues, and I am not trying to debate anyone's info they were given, only to relay the info I was given and then allow everyone to make a better judgement of what they wish to do.
Considering I am not the only one that has been told this very same thing, I am not sure what the problem is...this is a subject that those who wish to tip should tip and those that don't probably never did anyway. I did tip (as I already stated) during my last trip, and tipped additional the mousekeepers that were in the room that night when my son was sick...
believe me or not, that is not my problem...tip or not...once again not my problem.
I don't have a problem with the additional vacation time, dinners etc that they can earn, but I do agree that they should be able to keep their tips in cash as they are earned.
So unless you can prove to me other wise (aside from your telling me you called) I will have to go with what i was told by the CM's.

To all of you that still question this, I don't blame you...and for those of you that were told differently, I am not flaming you at all...please don't flame me for only sharing info I was told.

DaisyD & Babar41...I understand completely, and wish that Disney would post this info on the website to make it clear one way or the other...but then what would everyone debate about? Thanks for being able to agree to disagree without flames!

:headache: TIPPING IS YOUR CHOICE...I choose to tip, some people choose not to tip... there's no one knocking at your door every morning saying "Don't forget to tip the housekeeping" or "Don't tip housekeeping". Believe me they are very happy to take your tip. We had a wonderful mousekeeper when we were there March, we tipped her 5.00 every day we were there, when we saw her she thanked us so much, she was so appreciative of the money. She even made me 4 medium size towel animals to take home!

We don't tip because it seems like it's already a service included in the package. It happens in every hotel I have ever stayed in and we've never tipped for making a bed etc. I leave a bag of sweets or something at the end of our stay though, as a thank you.

Candy doesn't help people feed their family!!!! I think that is more of an insult than not tipping!:confused3

Personally choosing to be tipping or not tipping is a non-issue with me. I take issue with irrelevant or fabricated information being used to forward a particular viewpoint. A lot of people feel "If my tip doesn't go to the housekeeper who cleaned my room, why leave one at all?"

The concept of Disney employees being non-tipped does not extend to any traditionally tipped fields, including housekeeping, spa employees, valets, porters, & waitpersons

I certainly have no desire for you to take my word that I called, feel free to call yourself. All of the people answering the phone at the resorts speak fluent english - there is no communication barrior, as there is with much of the housekeeping staff.

Anyway, I felt that you would be dissaponted without a flame from SOMEONE :rotfl: the way you started and ended your post! :thumbsup2

Every hotel I have every stayed in, Disney resort or not, I have always left a small token for the housekeeping. While we are at Disney, I usually tip $5 per day with a note for the mousekeeper so they know it is for them. They are making sure I don't have to make my bed or clean the bathroom or towels while I am on vacation, it is the LEAST I can do! :lmao:

We always tip mousekeeping!! Those who think its stupid have obviously never worked as one.

My mother worked as a hotel maid and said it was the hardest job she has ever had. The stories she told me were terrible. Even if you dont leave a huge mess its still a huge job!!!!!

Your a SAHM and have 3 bathrooms, how can you compare that to a maid cleaning 20 rooms a day?:rotfl: If you can afford a house with 3 bathrooms surely you can tip $5 a day. Then again maybe thats how you can afford your house because you don't tip.

Now, that was just plain old mean. I really think this poster was out of line. Not tipping a "non tipped" position does not make a person stingy, cheap or anything else along those lines. And whether one can AFFORD to tip a non-tipped position is really irrelevant. Should Donald Trump throw dollars at everyone he crosses paths with just because he CAN, certainly not. I could see a little hostility if we were talking about a univerally-accepted "tipped" position (waiter, valet, etc.) But c'mon, this is nuts. We'd all like to make more, I think that is pretty much a universal assumption, and for mousekeeping, I guess its great that some guests CHOOSE to tip (if they are allowed to keep it, otherwise, charity benefits, because I'm sure no one would keep tips that they aren't permitted to have). But, not tipping mousekeeping, a CLEARLY stated non-tipped position is no differnt than not tipping the woman who checks you in, the girl at the gift shop register or the ferry driver. I really doubt any of them are getting rich on their jobs either.

The purpose of the tip should not be to feed their family but as a gesture to show appreciation for a job well done. I don't think anyone would consider a tangible gift insulting (at least I know I certainly wouldn't if I were the recipient.)

It IS A TIPPED POSITION!!!!!! If you don't feel you make a mess or have no desire to tip put & keep the DO NOT DISTURB on the room for your stay & then you have no interface with a Mousekeeper hence no tip.

Shame on you for feeling a bag of candy is a tip.:confused3
I would share the same thought with you as I did with another poster. If you do not care to tip fine. When you arrive place the "DO NOT DISTURB" on your door for your entire stay they won't come in & then there isn't a tip issue.

The problem I have is with people trying to spread the idea that housekeeping cannot keep their tips. Housekeeping in the enitre hotel industry is a tipped position. If you don't want to tip fine, but stop trying to make people think that if they leave tips, the housekeepers won't get it anyway. You're making people think they are doing something they shouldn't be doing by tipping, when it is in fact the accepted practice in the industry. Disney resorts are no different than any other hotel.

Let's face facts. People who don't tip mousekeeping are CHEAP. I'm saying you are bad people but you are CHEAP. To CRfanforlife, who say's they never tip and think that not asking for turndown service is a "tip", how can you stay in a concierge (?) room which probably costs around $400 a night (just guessing) and not tip mousekeepers $5? Obviously, you are financially comfortable, wouldn't it make you feel good to tip someone who I'm sure is not "fiancially comfortable"? Not flaming, but just can't see how someone can justify not tipping. Linda

People who chose not to tip are not being cheap, why should they tip? I would prefer the staff be paid an appropriate rate rather than expect customers to pay the extra its cheap of the company to expect that. I have sent an email to disney to ask about this BUT if I get one back saying its not a tipped job then I will not tip. Do you expect to tip EVERYONE???????? btw calling people cheap for not tipping is flaming someone not to mention childish.

The expectations do vary from region to region and country to country. I know that, by and large, tipping is neither expected nor required in most if not all of Canada. Perhaps it is the same in the UK? I believe there is an old saying - When in Rome, do as the Romans do. If I were so lucky as to visit any or all of the lovely countries of the UK, I would investigate the expected norms and try to live up to them, as a guest of an amazing and unique group of peoples :grouphug: . All I ask is that others try to understand our unique economic and customary situations, and make their decisions based on an understanding of the true facts, not on idle rumors spread by people with an axe to grind against the hospitality industry and its workers.

Whether you choose to tip or not, I wish for you only enjoyable stays at Disney, and in the USA. :cheer2:

I tip every am I am there. I print out "Mousesaver" envelopes with a design I made, I put in the envelope 5.00 and candy, hersey assorted, I make up the envelopes before I leave and bring them all ready to go. I always get towel animals and they way my room is done I can tell they really appreciate my efforts. I believe in tipping.

Occasionally I tip mousekeeping, but quite often I forget.

Tipping has become a very costly addition to vacation expenses. Tipping the waitress, driver, bartender, housekeeping.

I try to tip mousekeeping, but don't feel guilty if I don't. My vacations cost enough money. They're doing their job.
