Do you think there are any Hollywood types that have NEVER had any work done?

Personally I find it far more disturbing when an adorable young actress of a healthy size/weight turns into skin and bones a la Brittany Murphy.

Is Lara Flynn Boyle still alive? The last photos I saw of her in a bathing suit looked like she was knocking on death's door thin!

There is only so much that can be done with Robert Redford's face, he has years and years of sun damage (deep cracks and crevices) that not even the best laser surgeon can erase.

I don't think Meryl Streep has had any work done. She still looks great!:D

I'm blanking right now on her name...but the one who is partner with Tim Robbins and was in Thelma and louise. She looks great. Also if Sigorney weaver had anything done it looks great too.

Well, maybe it's me, but Meg Ryan looks to have had quite the boob job lately. She seems to be popping out all over - or maybe it's just midlife hormones gone wild.

if stars like that feel inadequate, what are we average people supposed to feel about our looks?

Luckily most of us don't have to depend on our looks for our next job. That's certainly a pressure I could do without!

I was reading today about a well known local lawyer who died after an operation to relieve blushing. He was 44, lived close to me, married with three young kids. Seemed to have everything, on TV regularly, very successful in his field, but apparently he couldn't cope with his problem of going red in company. The operation was supposed to be a simple one, I'm sure Olivia Goldsmith's was too.

Elective cosmetic surgery is on the increase big time, so I guess the number of people who don't have a successful treatment is bound to rise. So sad.

What's that saying? Something about youth being wasted on the young?

OT: Hey if I was Lionel Richie's wife I would take him to the CLEANERS for everytime I could! He was cheating on his wife for quite a while with someone close to the family so, I don't blame her a bit!

I think Diane Keaton is a natural why else would she cover every part of herself up at the Oscars?...that outfit covered her neck etc...!

I think Sandra Bullock is a natural...I noticed she didn't have any breast surgury which I find just wonderful...not afraid of being herself!

Yet...................

I'll also bet that a lot of the ones just mentioned have had nose jobs and other non-facelift stuff before they became very famousl

Can't say that I blame them. America's society has put such a premium on looks that their income depends on it. Though women remain cute and perky for about 20 years, if they want to remain working before society ignores them, they take some of the money they used while they were cute to try to become cute again.

It's really sad.

It's like repainting your house to sell, or washing your car before trading it in, it is what makes them more marketable.

Oh, and by the way, the people I'd like to add who I don't think have had surgery, OVER 40:

Denzel Washington
Jackee Harry
Debbie Allen
Bill Cosby
Phylicia Rashad
Sheryl Lee Ralph

Old saying, it don't CRACK! :p

Nicole has had so much botox she's lost facial expression. Which is unfortunate, as being able to express emotion is rather important in her line of work. But, she looks good!

(Don't mean to sound catty, but it bothered me the all the way through Cold Mountain.)

Robin I don't think it was society that forced them into the whole "looks are everything" mentality. I think it was Hollywood that did it. They do the casting. They dictate the fashion.

One of the most obvious nose jobs in Hollywood history is Melissa Gilbert. Just compare a photo of her as "Halfpint" and a more recent one. They chiseled ALOT of nose from that woman. But it does look better, I'll admit that.;)

Rhinoplasty (or 'nose job') is probably the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery procedure (though I don't have statistics to back this up.) All you have to do is see photos of the stars from way back, then compare them to today.

David Schwimmer, Jennifer Grey, etc.

You're kidding, right?

America has been a youth, looks oriented society for centuries. They have had no respect for age or the wisdom that comes with age in lifetimes.

I do believe that there was a very shallow thread on the looks of a Presidential candidate just a few days ago. That had nothing to do with casting but on America's obsession on what looks good.

Hollywood just follows what is marketable. They wouldn't offer it or demand it if society hadn't first written the criteria.

Hollywood definitely participates in it a lot! Famous people are, by definition, more visible than others. They are the bodies and the faces that people compare themselves to. I think they create the demand for which we buy. People try to emulate them.
