On Dr90210 I caught a minute where the wife of one of the doctors started keeping a food journal because she "just forgets to eat" and she's losing a lot of weight.

Personally, all I think about is food, but all kidding aside, i've heard some people say that they "forget to eat" all day if they're busy at work, or with their kids, or doing whatever they're doing.

Do you think it's possible to "forget to eat" or is it more that someone knows they've not eaten and just don't want to stop what they're doing? It also could be that someone just doesn't want to eat, but that's not forgetting to eat.

I don't know about forgetting to eat but sometimes I get so busy I just don't make the time to. Unfortunately I make up for it later  :rotfl: . I know there are people who just don't have much interest in food - I'm sure that's some sort of brain disorder :lmao: (just kidding). I guess if it doesn't interest you than you probably could just forget.

I'm on Weight Watchers trying to drop the 15lbs that have somehow crept onto my body so like you right now food is always on my mind :teeth: .

I forgotten to eat on numerous occassions and when I remembered, it was really late at night, so I didn't want to eat.

My thighs can attest to the fact that I don't forget to eat.

I can understand that people get busy and don't make eating a priority, but eventually you get hungry, and your body tells you to eat. I think there maybe people who use "I forgot to eat" as an excuse for not wanting to eat, or some sort of eating disorder. I mean, if you are taking care of your kids, you have to feed them, right? How could you forget to eat if you are feeding your kids?

Isn't there a quote that goes something like, "You have to be a special kind of stupid to forget to eat". There's more to it, and someone has it in their siggie, or used to.

I sometimes skip meals, but I don't forget about them...I just chose to ignore them (or am forced to ignore them for whatever reason, usually meetings).

I would believe it if it happens every once in a great while, but if someone is "forgetting" on a regular basis, I think it's an excuse.

I always atleast eat dinner with the family. But honestly I forget to drink. I will go all day with nothing. I have been like this for awhile.

I have forgotton to eat on occasion. Yes, I'm just too busy and it slips my mind. Now, this would be like only one meal a day and not on a regular basis. And definitely not to the point of losing weight from it.

I have forgotten to eat a few (emphasis: *very* few) times in my life when I was super busy, but these coincided with days on which I wasn't hungry, either. I think it has to be the combination of too busy and not hungry to truly forget to eat, as opposed to choosing not to eat.

Yes, it is possible....but not something that happens a lot. If it happens a lot, something else is going on and needs to be addressed.
Once in awhile back in college I would get so busy between school/work I would literally forget to eat. You'd think your body would remind you with your tummy growling, but that didn't happen. I think I was running on adrenaline back then. However, the next day I'd be starved and eat like a pig. ;)

Noawadays, this never happens....my tummy LOUDLY reminds me that I haven't eaten. :rotfl: I can barely imagine "forgetting to eat" now.

I Have forgotten to eat.

My mother forgets regularly--she does have to consciously remember and she eats like a bird on top of that.

I forget to drink constantly! Big pain when I trained for Disney---b/c you need water and lack of it will affect your performance---so it was tough for me to drink the necessary amounts post run (but I was fine pre-run and during run).

IMO, "forgetting to eat" to the point of losing so much weight that there is has an impact on your health is a symptom of serious psychological problems. Almost sounds like the wife has a passive-aggressive form of anorexia.

agnes!

Yes I think it is possible. I would imagine it has to do with the brain. If the signals are not being sent then you probably will forget.
I think glands and hormones have something to do with it too.

I have forgotten to eat lately. I got into the habit of feed Ds first and then I would make myself something. I literally would feed him and just sort of forget. It got me into trouble though, b/c I am pregnant I get sick when I let hunger take over. So now I make sure to eat something while I feed him, and it works a lot better.

I have forgotten to eat on rare occasion. Usually I get hungry.

I did go through a phase after a severe illness where I didn't experience hunger and eating was a chore I had to remember to do. However, in that case I really didn't forget - it was more like dread so I tried to forget. It really made me understand what people with eating disorders go through.

 Me too! I forget to drink a lot. I can go all day with drinking a half a glass of water. Honostly, I'm just never that thirsty.

I can see forgetting to eat once in awhile because you are busy and have a million other things going through your head. It happened to me in college because of projects and homeworks. But to forget to eat on a daily basis, that is just an excuse.

That's me--a special kind of stupid, Mal! :rotfl2:

Here's my take on it. When I get upset or nervous, the thought of food just makes me sick and I can't eat--so I literally forget about it because I'm not hungry. I've never been the kind of person to just eat because it's lunch time--if I'm not hungry, I don't eat. When I was going through a divorce, I lost 25 lbs in about 3 months. I wasn't overweight to begin with and this caused problems with my blood sugar--I'm now hypoglycemic so I have to eat about 20 times a day. Well, that's an exaggeration, more like 6 but it feels like a lot.

My doctor thinks my blood sugar may have been low for quite some time--the thing is, when my blood sugar is the lowest, that's the time I LEAST want to eat. My family has learned to recognize the signs and insist that I have a glass of juice. Then I'm usually able to go ahead and eat a meal.

My mom is the same way--she lost about 50 lbs after my dad passed away.

So, yeah, I know it's possible to forget to eat and not have it be because of an eating disorder. A lot of people don't eat when they're upset--the same way some people DO eat when they're upset.

NEVER EVER....I have to eat every few hours or I get very shaky and dizzy and it's definitely a recipe for a migraine for me.

Well lately I have. I think I have just been really busy with work (school vacation week for mass and maine this week and nh next week so the airport is BUSY) and my medication makes me have a non-existant appetite. I honestly and truly forget and have lost close to 20 pounds in the last few weeks. I know not healthy. I was at the ticket counter slinging bags last night and got really dizzy...took me a bit to realise it was 530pm and I hadnt eaten a thing all day :confused3 . So I went up and got a grilled chicken salad and a milkshake and felt a bit better. This has only been happening in the last month or so and I truly think it has something to do with my meds and just not feeling hungry and just forgetting. I would doubt an eating disorder on my part...I usually LOVE TO EAT.
So in answer to your question...yes.

I can say from experience that it is possible to forget to eat. I was like that when I was in college. I was going to school full time, and I had a full time job. I would get so busy that food was the very last thing on my mind. There were times that I would get extremely hungry (usually at work) and there was just no time to eat. We would get hammered with phone calls and just couldn't get away. I would get (what I call) beyond hungry. You just get to the point where you aren't hungry anymore. Believe me, I wasn't doing it for attention, I was well aware of the fact that I had become painfully thin. I was 5'5" and weighed 104lbs. After I finished college I gained weight and was fine.
