Do you think it's possible to "forget to eat"??

Here's the whole joke:

Skinny people just make me mad. Especially when they say things like, "You know, sometimes I forget to eat." Now I've forgotten my address, my mother's maiden name, and my keys. But I've never forgotten to eat. You have to be a special kind of stupid to forget to eat.

Didn't mean to offend with it though...it was just the first thing that popped in my head when I saw the title of the thread.

I guess I can't imagine forgetting...everyday here at noon there's a mass exodus of people leaving for lunch. It would be impossible for me to avoid thinking about it while listening to the thundering herd gallop out the door. At home, I have two other people to feed, so food's a pretty prominent thought.

I can forget to eat. I forgot to eat last night--it was a "fend for yourself" night, but I forgot to fend for myself. :rotfl:

I'm rarely hungry. I can eat one meal a day & feel completely fine with it. I don't have an eating disorder & believe me, I look like I eat at least 5 meals a day. :rotfl2:

I've always been this way so I don't know any different. I've always wondered about those who are always hungry, quite honestly. It's hard to understand what you don't know or don't experience.

Hey, you didn't offend me. I think it was Rita Rudner who had that in a comedy routine, wasn't it?

I do get annoyed when some people automatically assume that skinny women have an eating disorder. I come from a whole family of skinny folks. I have a skinny kid who eats constantly. I lucked out in the genetics department weight-wise. And I've read many weight-loss articles in magazines that recommend people not eat if they aren't hungry. So why is it so weird to do this?

I am BAD about forgetting to eat when I'm busy. It's like my stomach shuts down and doesn't notify me.

To start with, I'm a tiny person. When I work a regular 9-5 job (not in my home, which is where I work now), I get way too skinny. My work clothes start falling off of me. When you start out as a size 0, that can be really bad.

Ironically, I have a job interview tomorrow and it's been something that's worrying me. I won't get but a 30 minute lunch break every day. Scheduling time to eat is going to be even more difficult.

Seeing this thread was very timely!

If the wife on Dr90210 is who I think it is then I really think it is more passive aggressive in nature.

I have "forgotten" but it is more of a being really busy, then realizing it's 3:00 and all I've had was coffee.

IMO, "forgetting to eat" to the point of losing so much weight that there is has an impact on your health is a symptom of serious psychological problems. Almost sounds like the wife has a passive-aggressive form of anorexia.

agnes!

Mine has never had an impact on my health, but on my wardrobe. I can guarantee you, that I have no form of anorexia.

I work just as hard at my current job, but my kitchen is conveniently a room away. I hear food calling to me and I eat it. I'm still tiny though.

When I go to work outside of my house, I don't have that opportunity and I get so busy that I forget. By the time I get home, I'll usually eat something, but not nearly enough to make up for the whole day.

I know from experience that someone can forget to eat. I think the longest I've gone is 12 hours. It's a combination of not feeling hungry because I'm preoccupied and not having time to eat anyway. It happened most often in school if I had a project I was working on all day. The most recent time a few weeks ago I was out running errands and realized around 4 that I hadn't eaten. BTW, this isn't a common occurance for me.

Well, I'm a special kind of stupid too!

ITA with what you've said. I'm skinny, but I have some meat on me too. I've got curves and even still, I'll get comments. Same with my two daughters.

Why is it appropriate to speculate to someone's face if their skinny, but not if they're overweight? Some of us are what we are and we can't control it - skinny, overweight, bald, hairy... whatever.

Oh, now that you say Rita Rudner I think it was her! I love her.

I forgotten to eat on numerous occassions and when I remembered, it was really late at night, so I didn't want to eat.

WOW! I just can't imagine forgetting to eat & then it being too late. It's NEVER too late for me to eat & I absolutely NEVER forget to eat either! I wake up thinking about what I'm going to make that day & anytime I'm on the phone with family or friends, the conversation always goes to food! Do you think that has any bearing on me being a POOH sized lady?? :confused3 :teeth:

I watched Barry Manilow on Martha Stewart last week (or was it the week before that?) Anyway, he said he doesn't LIKE to eat!!?? :faint: Has anyone ever met anyone like that?? Oh, it's a good thing Barry & I never got together because that would certainly have been in the way of our relationship! :rotfl2: Oh yeah...but he does like Bologna sandwiches. :scratchin Somebody needs to feed that man some good food!

In college, I used to have one of the women that worked with me bring in TV Guides with the "Afterschool Specials" highlighted when they were scheduled to be about anorexia/bulimia. "Here honey", she'd say, "I thought you might like to watch this."

Nothing I said would convince her I wasn't deathly ill, just thin.

Topamax, the drug I take to inhibit my Migraines makes me forget to eat. And it makes me have very little desire to eat. So yes it is possible to forget to eat. *chuckles* Of course, there are other reasons to "forget to eat" such as eating disorders.

There are some days that I get hungry around 4:00 and realize that I didn't stop to eat lunch.

That would piss me off, no doubt about it.

It bugged me at first but I mostly let it go...the funniest thing was I probably weighed more than she did.

Both DH and two of his sisters have never felt hungry, so can easily forget to eat. They have no comprehension of what I'm talking about when I say that I get headachy and my stomach hurts when I skip a meal.

DH weighs about the same (within 2 pounds) as he did when we married. DSIL's still weigh the same as they did in high school; one SIL actually has an abdomen that is sunken lower than her pelvis. SILs have NO CURVES whatsoever, the only time they had a bosom at all was during pregnancy and BFing.

They had an aunt who was the same way, and she lived to be 99, so I don't think there's anything unhealthy about it, it's just their nature.

One of my DH's computer games, I think it is one of the Baldur's Gate games has messages on the screen while the game loads. One of them is something like

"Remember, characters in the game don't need to eat but YOU do. We don't want to lose any dedicated players!"

Cracks me up every time.

I think I have a form of Hypoglycemia because it is just not possible for me to forget to eat. I get really shaky and dizzy if I go too long without sustinence. I can also get really b@!tchy too. I've found that having sugary stuff alone (like juice or pastries) really makes it worse. For me the best thing is to eat small meals 5-6 times a day to keep my blood sugar stable. And those meals have to be balanced with carbs and protein. There are days where I'm not really hungry because I'm stressed but I eventually get shaky so then I force myself to eat something. I'm in the healthy range of weight for my height, but I'd like to lose about 5-10 pounds. I wouldn't say I'm obsessed with food, but the idea of forgetting to eat is so foreign to me.

Now my DH can go hours without eating. He'll just be so engrossed in what he's doing that he just forgets. Eventually he'll realize he's starving (usually when he gets home and asks me what's for dinner - I could just kill him when he does that), and eat more than he should. He could stand to lose 15-20 pounds.

I worked with a lady once, who would forget to eat. She was pathetically thin and it was very sad. She's all ways ill.She said she never had an appetite. I remember her coming in on Monday and nibbling on a half of a bagel and telling me that was the first thing she had eaten since Friday night.
