Do you think Dan's account

And I wasn't the one that mentioned the old posts, so I guess the first one that did was pretty childish too, or is it just when they don't support your position?

Good grief. :lmao:

I'll get right on pulling up those old posts! :teeth:

Where is anyone mocking "everyone" that posts on game threads? Suggesting the game threads be moved, posting an opinion that the game threads litter up the board or posting a bunch of inane posts that look like game threads is hardly mocking anyone, let alone everyone. We're talking about threads here, not people. Making an opinion known about a subject doesn't mean you mock everyone who happens to post on any particular thread.
Starting a bunch of threads and then saying lets see how it goes is making a suggestion? Do you honestly think that the people in the exchange threads and game threads don't feel like they're under attack? Do you think none of these people are taking it personally?

Maybe, but I'm guessing many people that post on the game threads don't even look at all the other threads on the CB Board-they just want to post to their game.

So people don't like the game threads, people don't like the debate threads, people don't like the clique threads, people don't like the "personal message" threads. What's left? The threads where someone goes incognito and asks for advice on a personal situation, then everyone jumps all over them for using an alias and for not listening to the advice given? Hmm, there are so many "asking for prayers and pixie dust" threads lately, too. Maybe all those people should stop posting, too. Oooh, but I guess all the Britney bashing threads shall remain. The fact is that you CANNOT PLEASE EVERYONE and everyone is going to have different opinions on which threads they enjoy and which threads they don't like. It is a COMMUNITY board.

Laura said:
Yeah, I remember that. We were not supposed to post personal messages to each on the boards. Why? Because it would clutter them up. So, if they're allowed now, they need their own board. I don't know why that's so hard for the "DIS powers that be" to create. It's been suggested more than once.

We're still not supposed to...

4. NO PERSONAL MESSAGES: These boards are not for exchanging personal messages with friends. For that, we suggest you use email or our Private Message system. If you have a personal comment for that person, please direct it to them via email or PM. If the use of the boards for personal messages continues, those messages will be deleted. Remember, if the message is not intended for EVERYONE, it does not belong on the boards!

You know, there haven't been that many changes. :confused3 Of course over time we have new people posting - that's a good thing, right? We have new topics posted - that's a good thing, right? It's ridiculous to expect a message board to stay exactly the same with the same people, the same types of posts, etc for 6+ yrs!

So there might be more game threads and group threads than before - if it isn't your cup of tea, don't click on them. Most of the groups that have threads here are very open and welcoming to new people and if you run across one that treats you rudely - let an admin or mod know because threads are open to EVERYONE.

Outside of the above, the Community board is what it always has been - a melting pot of personalities, subjects and views.

Well said...maybe Dan Murphy should read this.

Holy crap Sillyme...you hit the nail right on the head...nice post :thumbsup2

You have 163 posts?

Like that even matters anymore! There are people posting on the private threads that don't even contribute to anything else on the CB who have thousands of posts! Talk about drivel. I'd rather read 163 posts that actually make sense than 12,000 posts of dancing bananas.

Post count means nothing anymore and it sure as hell doesn't mean you've made a contribution to the DIS.

Amen to feralpeg AND Dan Murphy...

I was lost but did a search on his threads and BOY did I :rotfl2:

I've been on these boards since the beginning and sometimes I come on and just go :confused3 to the front page. I feel like I've run onto one of my son's websites!

The CB is full of different people with different very INTERESTING viewpoints and interests. When it became an exclusionary we're playing over here and talking to each other and you don't know what we're talking about crapola board... I've decided maybe I don't belong here and rarely visit anymore.

Hopefully it will, as it has before, change again. I guess I've gotten too OLD...
Yep, I agree with you Robin! :thumbsup2 Is it OK to say that, or will I be attacked? :rolleyes1

I don't click on them. However, you don't have to click on them to have SO MANY of them that many threads I DO want to read get pushed to page 3 in a matter of minutes. There used to be a rule about keeping private posts to each other in PM's and now there are whole threads of it.

If we can have a PHOTOGRAPHY board I don't see why we can't have a Games/Exchanges/Private Club board.

If there are threads that you want to read on a regular basis, why just subscribe to them. First thing I do when I log in is to click on mu User CP and see if there have been any new postings to my regualr threads.

Scrolling through each page doesn't bother me, no matter what board I'm in. It's all part of using a group discussion forum such as this. No one poster has posts that are any more important than others. (Except for the mods. :thumbsup2 )

I have registered with a number of different Disney related discussion boards and this one is certainly the best. It is the most active and you meet some great people on here. Sometimes you agree, sometimes you don't. People just need to relax and have some fun.

Under attack from what? LOL! An opinion?? LOL! I have no idea if anyone is taking it personally. I don't have people PMing me telling me they are. I only know what I've been reading on the threads discussing what happened.

And that's exactly why some people are posting their opinions now and why some PEOPLE posted "spam-like" threads on the boards last night, because it's a community board and we are all members of the community. "Spam-like" threads may not be the way "you or I" would express our opinions, but it's the way some people chose.

MosMom and Laura ... Buckalew once put up a thread asking me to check my PMs. I replied to her by thanking her and saying I would go do that. A couple other people made comments, I think it might have made it to page two before it was locked, but I' not sure, but I know for a fact it was locked and we were told to take it to PMs.

Ain't that the truth!

edited-posted to wrong thread

sorry about thay!

Obi-Wan ...

I don't remember you posting much on the CB "back in the day", so maybe for you and other who are "newer" to the board, it hasn't changed that much in the last two or three years. But there have been major changes on the CB since I found the CB....Great post Feralpeg. :)

Hi Maggie! I hope you don't mind me condensing your post--I just wanted to save some space. :)

First of all, it is so good to see you here! I hope you're doing well and enjoying a fun summer! :sunny:

I guess you can count me in as someone who is a little disappointed by Dan's postings--not by what he is saying, just the manner in which it was said. I rarely place myself in controversial threads--I've said it before, I've got major Thin Skin Syndrome. But I will say that I was a little more than hurt by what Dan is implying. As the one who started the T&B thread (and really just because I couldn't get through to her any other way), I never in any way thought it would bother people that it took off like it did--I certainly never meant it as anything other than to get that dang woman to do a sweep of the box! I am sure it is intimidating to those who may wish to join in, and I'm sure I'd have felt the same way about attempting to join a 'clique' thread. But since I never did, I can't speak for participants other than us when I say that we *want* new people all the time--heck, we go around recruiting them! :) I remember what the "old CB" was like--I keep posting around here that I miss catsrule's Simba posts, but she's not taking the bait! C'mon, you know nothing could bring us all together like some fat, furry belly-rubbing--unless of course, it's Corn People. :p I also agree that the rules here aren't always applied equally or without disparity--we all know examples of it. But like I said in the T&B thread, if the mods were to close us down, I'd understand. Extreme naivete' on my part, but I just never knew that threads like ours (along with the game threads, etc.) bothered people so much--I guess because they never before bothered me. :)

I have no problems at all with people speaking their minds here, and to be honest, I would've given Dan's opinions a great deal of weight if he would've posted them in a more (in what I perceive to be) respectful manner, and more mindful of people's feelings. He's been here long enough to know what this would denigrate into, so I guess I see it as a petulant, deliberate way to stir the pot. And for the most part, I hate that kind of stuff--no matter who's doing the pot-stirring. :)

I'll wholeheartledly admit that although I'm trying to be neutral in my perspective, I am a little hurt--not in an Oh my God the DIS hates me kind of way--but more in a Man, I had no clue that people were bothered by me kind of way (if that makes any sense?!) But in the end, DIS-life goes on, and I'll abide by whatever the mods decide to do (you know I love all Mods, everywhere, Maggie!) ;) In the big picture, none of this should matter to me, so I guess I'm just a little more than embarrassed that it does. Sigh...

All I know for sure is that it was nice talking to you again. I hope you and WillyJ are having a lovely summer and a Happy 4th! Take good care Maggie, and please tell all I say hello! :wave2:

Oh I remember quite well too. That's great if times change but maybe the official rules should change with times because they still have that pesky old rule there.

Noting that various posters have been sounding the gong over the demise of the Community Board for as long as I've been here, and I arrived in late 1998. Like the "good old days," people always mourn the present in comparison to the almighty past. I think that the CB is pretty terrific.

I hereby propose a new "Games and Journals Board." Have you guys ever been to a site where cliques have "journal threads," using this exact technology? It works beautifully.

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm sure someone will) but didn't Dan start the "Lets start an association game" and is part of the Chicago and OldTimers threads??? :confused3 So its okay for him but not for others? I just don't get it. Everyone who is an adult here...raise your hand! :teeth:

How nice to see you and several of the others on here that were on the DB way back then. I do miss it. I don't know that I would have much time to contribute a lot, but I can say that there were actually some constructive debates in which I hope that people took something away from it! I know I did.

I agree! I even saw a 'post count boosting' thread. What is that about?? Why does someone care about how many posts they have? I've been hear about 5 years.. and don't have a lot of posts.. my kid has been here about a year and has over 10,000.. in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter!

Honestly ... the games threads, the personal threads, the post-count threads really don't bother me because of the way I read the DIS. I read all the boards at once using the "New Posts" link and I am adept at skipping threads that have no interest to me. I find this method more interesting since I read the CB one minute, the transporation board the next and then over to the restauant board. I don't get stuck on one board.

I've been DISing this way for about a year now.

When I log on, I click on User CP to read the threads I've posted to. After that I click on New Posts.

There are times I'll DIS the "old way" but I prefer the new way. :cloud9:

I would be embarassed to have the number of threads some posters have  What ever happened to real life friends?

And while I'm moaning and complaining, are there really people who think "If you start a thread, you own it", and you get to decide who is allowed to post? Come on!! Grow the heck up people!! It's an internet message board. If you want to chit chat with your 3 little friends, I suggest EZBoards, for about 10 bucks you can have a whole board to yourself and I'm willing to bet nobody but you and your 3 friends will go there, because nobody gives a crap.
