I was trying to figure that out myself. We haven't changed anything I know of in a couple of years....

TPTB may have not made a lot of changes(except for the demise of the debate board) but you can't deny that the cb has changed. I'm not complaining life is full of changes and I just try to flow with them. But it would be sticking your head in the sand saying the cb hasn't changed.

Well, since the demise of the Debate Board, there are a lot more CB threads that are more in that tone, which wasn't always nice.

I have to say, the DB kind of kept the nastier posts and posters from infiltrating the CB. They all stayed over there and fought.

Seriously? How many of the original DBers do you think are still here?

You know, there haven't been that many changes. Of course over time we have new people posting - that's a good thing, right? We have new topics posted - that's a good thing, right? It's ridiculous to expect a message board to stay exactly the same with the same people, the same types of posts, etc for 6+ yrs!

So there might be more game threads and group threads than before - if it isn't your cup of tea, don't click on them. Most of the groups that have threads here are very open and welcoming to new people and if you run across one that treats you rudely - let an admin or mod know because threads are open to EVERYONE.

Outside of the above, the Community board is what it always has been - a melting pot of personalities, subjects and views.

Perhaps Dan was trying to make a point. IMHO there has been some rather childish behavior as of late. Just because this is a message board does not mean that folks shouldn't treat each other with the same respect that they would use if meeting in person.

Also, IMHO, there have many threads lately that are nothing more than silly drivel. I don't mean to insult anyone, but I'd think instant messaging would work better for that sort of thing than posting on this type of board. I've tried to follow a couple of those threads and couldn't make heads or tails of them. I guess they are amusing to those in the know, but they are rather senseless to the rest of us. When I see this type of thing, I just sign off. I so prefer conversations that make sense to all who want to join in.

I don'y have a problem with the game/exchange/clique threads existing - it's more that I wish they had their own board. Oftentimes it's hard to find the, uh, regular threads among all the other stuff - usually those threads are at least half, sometimes 3/4s of the first page. It's not a matter of not clicking on them - there's just so many that other posts get lost very quickly.

I understand that it's a community and all are welcome to post -- but in real life, when cliques dominate an area/activity, I quickly lose interest in going there.

I guess that means I have to search your posts to see what fights you've been starting, since you're a nasty former-DBer.

I just mean a lot of stuff is blamed on the demise of the DB, when *most* of the DB regulars don't even post anymore. And that everything was always perfect on the CB before the closing of the DB. Don't get me wrong - I'd love for the DB to be re-opened - but I don't think the tone of the CB will change drastically if it is.

I think Dan made an excellent point. I don't like to get involved in squabbles, but I'm tired of having to sift through stuff like this:

Change one letter around?!?! A billion different One Word Associations?! And my all time favorite Countdown Game?! Are you really THAT bored that you'll sit there and post a number all night until you get to zero?! It's ridiculous bordering on the edge of absurd. I'm not saying don't play games, but I mean seriously, enough is enough.

I don't click on them. However, you don't have to click on them to have SO MANY of them that many threads I DO want to read get pushed to page 3 in a matter of minutes. There used to be a rule about keeping private posts to each other in PM's and now there are whole threads of it.

If we can have a PHOTOGRAPHY board I don't see why we can't have a Games/Exchanges/Private Club board.
