We are leaving in 3 weeks for WDW - and I'm trying to remember if we normally bring US cash or just CC/debit. What do you all do? This is also my first time flying from Canada (flying from Pearson, normally we fly from Buffalo). I feel like we don't need any cash but want to make sure I'm not missing anything!

TIA!

I have never needed cash going to WDW itself, although my family always stays on property, using Magical Express and connecting our CC to the Magic Bands. I would need cash for tipping Mouse (house)-keeping. Never a bad thing to have an emergency stash for the airport, etc (though we've never needed it). FYI we fly from the Northeast too.

I was thinking the same - CC on the Magic Band. We are in a DVC - so I'm not sure we will have housekeeping (maybe once - I cannot remember the rules!). I think maybe we will get out a little for emergencies, as suggested!

We're also in DVC, and have the Visa cc, so often have a redemption card from points. I'm very aware of the balance on that (ie. making conscious purchases as if the card was cash) but never actually needed cash myself besides housekeeping. FYI we've also used the Minnie-vans and everything was on cc. And mousekeeping should come every 4th day or so with DVC.

We always bring enough cash to the parks to eat one meal there. You never know when the MDE will go down, therefore, not being able to use your magic band for payment.

Edit to add: We always bring a few hundred US with us in general (see above comment).

We ALWAYS carry some cash, in whatever the local currency (including carrying some CDN cash even when close to home) is for any number of reasons:
  • flight delays/diversions leading to needing immediate, cash only, purchases of food & any sundries
  • The chance, even if it's slim, of credit system being down - Disney specifically we've been caught when the entire system was down -- couldn't use dining credits or charge back to the room
  • But the number one reason we don't like to use credit more than we need to is the foreign transaction fee credit cards will slap onto each and every charge
Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks! We don't pay a fee, so that doesn't really factor in for us. I am glad at the reminder for emergency situations!
P.S. We are also in Guelph!

We have been twice since the new credit card policy, the first time we had such and issue that we choose not to put one on the room the second trip. Much easier to use cash or gift card.

We charge everything possible to the magic band. We only bring small bills for tips (bell services, maid, etc.).

No problems! We have a US Mastercard but still need to buy US cash to pay that bill and we try to keep that as small as possible but it does eliminate that one extra fee.

And hi there to another Guelph-ite! and you knew i was going to be forced to go here (see what i did there :P )

We always bring $$ (not a lot) for tipping mousekeeping and other little things. We mainly use discounted GCs and just charge to our room and then I will stop in the lobby every couple of days and payoff the balance and get a printout to look over our charges.

I’m leaving this Saturday for 8 nights. We plan to bring along our credit cards. I have probably more USD than we need and I bought a $500 Disney GC to use for food at the parks.
We booked 36 days ago through Costco travel, but couldn’t get a room onsite for our dates. We’ re staying at the Hilton near Disney Springs - the deal was too good to turn down.

We always have cash on hand. You never know when their system will be down or something (it’s happened before) and there’s usually some stand that only takes cash. That being said, we don’t take a whole lot.

oooh, us too on this weekend (but it's 3 weeks for us) can't believe how quickly it's coming! We booked on that short timeline a couple of years ago with a Cyber Monday deal i couldn't pass up and i think it was one of our best trips!

Side note, I love your screen name .. can you recite the entire story??? My hubby is constantly using this sentence!

Now the storal of the mory is: if you go to a bancy fall and you want a pransome hince to lall in fove with you don’t forget to slop your dripper!

We bring $100 bucks JIC and the rest is on the MB, although lately we've been getting into the GC.

We usually bring a bit of cash, maybe a few hundred?

We always have small bills that we use for tips, plus a bit of cash for incidentals like others are saying.

The thing I love about bringing cash is that we hardly ever use it, and hardly ever remember to return it. A couple months back, while prepping for our next trip, we found the cash from our last trip tucked in with travel documents. Found money towards the next trip feels like a nice little surprise!!
