I was under the impression that use years for the original contract and use years for add ons have to be the same, can someone please explain this to me. Thinking of doing an add on and I have a feb use year, does the addon have to be feb too??? As far as I can remember it had to be the same.

Thanks,
Vince

That is true if adding on from Disney, but a resale could result in two different use years.

Ah, So when doing a add from Disney they will only sell you the same use year but when buying in the resale market you are free to choose any use year. I think I got it now.

Thanks!

I have Feb use year from OKW purchase in 1994 and added on at HHI in 2002 with a Feb use year throu re-sale. I was told by the agent that it is easier to do with same use year so she was very happy. Don't know what the process would have been thru re-sale with a different use year. but it isn't impossible.

Assuming it's less than 150 pts DVC will only sell you the same use year. It's easier if things are the same use year but for a larger add on contract, it doesn't make much difference, especially if it's a different resort. The reason is you have to track the points separately anyway for a different resort, no different than a separate use year.

The main differences between a true add-on via Disney is that all points are combined for banking deadline purposes, and also some reservation issues.

Example: You have 100 OKW points and 100 BWV points with the same use year and contract number. (xxxxxx-000 and xxxxxx-001). You use all 100 of your OKW points. You're within the 50% banking window. You may still bank all 100 BWV points as it's only 50% of your total of 200 points.

Example: You have 100 OKW points and 100 BWV points with different use years and therefore different contract numbers. (xxxxxx-000 and yyyyyy-000). You use all 100 of your OKW points. You're within the 50% banking window for BWV. You may only bank 50 points as that's 50% of your total (100 BWV points).

Example: 100 OKW points and 100 BWV points add-on. At 7-months you want to make a 150 point reservation at VWL. You simply use as many OKW points and as many BWV points as you want, in any combination.

Example, you have 100 OKW points and 100 BWV points in separate contracts. The points cannot be combined to make a reservation. You have two choices. Make x number of full days using the OKW points only, and make y number of full days using the BWV points only, then link the two reservations. OR, transfer points from one account to the other and then make one reservation. Transfers are subject to their own set of guidelines.

Everything else is the same whether they're add-on contracts or separate contracts (as in resales). Home resort priority applies the same. In other words, with different contracts, the main thing is you simply have to manage the contracts separately.

Hope this helps.

Thats why some people come up quicker on the wait list...pot luck if your use year comes up and no one else is waiting Disney will sell to you!

Others could be unlucky and wait for ages if no ROFL of their use year is exercised. At least with the new system Disney will now who "wants" the add on and ROFL accordingly. This will save Disney money so points are not left on the "shelf" waiting for a purchaser.

i'm a little confused.
I just purchased an add-on at boardwalk.
my original dvc is beach club with a june use year, but because of the number of points i wanted to add, June was not available and i got a feb use year for add on points.
No one mentioned that my banking deadline would be the same for both contracts. (Is this what you are saying?)
Wouldn't i still be able to bank 100%of my Feb use year by July? and 100% of my June use year by November.
Are you saying I now have to decide to bank my June use year points by July???
help
