Do Buyers Agents Send Out "Thank You's"?

We bought a house about a month ago. I work with quite a few other people who recently purchased new houses, and each and every one of them recieved a "thank you" from their buyers agent. One got a card, one got a card and decorative flowering plant, and another got a basket with wine and chocolate.

We haven't gotten squat! (Not that we really NEED anything, but you know... )

And we found this house on the FIRST day she showed us houses, and we put in an offer the very next day. That was probably the quickest $2000 she ever made!!!

Is it normal for them to send things, or did my friends get spoiled? (Or did we get slighted?) :confused3

If so, let me live vicariously... what did YOU get? :goodvibes

Our buyer's agent ended up also being our selling agent (the only house they showed us that was listed by them and it was the one we wanted)....

So in our case, yes--we got something. WE got a gift and a thank you note.

It would seem it is a professional courtesy, but I have no other experience to go by.

We live near a beach, so we got a lovely pineapple candle (carved like one, I don't think it smelled like one).

Hmm. Both times -- when I was buying and when I was selling -- it was my own agent who gave me a gift as a "thank you" for allowing her to help me buy and sell a home.

But that was during the booming real estate market. Maybe in this current market -- since most places are desperate for buyers -- if someone manages to sell a house, the selling agent thanks the buyer with a gift. That would make sense to me. :goodvibes

Well, I guess I will be "forgetting" our selling agents name. She could have at least send a card, as you said, to be professional. :snooty:

We never saw any kind of thank you from our agent, actually we have not heard from him since closing.

I don't care either, but the only reason I kind of care is since she didn't have much work to do and made EASY money.

Maybe thats why you didn't get anything. She didn't have a connection to you to make her feel like she wanted to thank you. :confused3

We didn't get anything from our agent (and don't really care, though I know at least one local agent gives clients a doorknocker. I engraved enough of them when I worked at Things Remembered!)

We did, however, after about 5 years, get cards from the agency, "you've been there a while, if you're ready to move, let us know." Um, ok, not.

THAT is NICE!

And about the postcard... yeah, no. :rotfl2:

At closing, we got a "thank you" note filled with business cards from the agent selling the house we bought (we'd only met her once). We were unimpressed, and our (buyer's) agent felt it was unethical of her to try to "cut in" that way.

We, however, sent our agent a thank you note and a lovely bouquet since she was the one who did all the work negotiating our deal.

We received a thank you note and a gift card to a local nursery (we had mentioned we wanted to add a tree to the front yard).
Now that we have lived here a few years we are getting the "when you are ready to sell" cards! :lmao:

I've bought four houses and sold three in my adult life. I've never received anything from the agents. I didn't expect anything. In this economy, many real estate offices are suffering. It surprises me that they would spend the money to send gifts.

Didn't get a thing from the agent who sold us our house.

We did get a sheet of return address labels with holiday decorations from our insurance agent the other day. They're actually quite pretty, and I'll get more use out of them than the refrigerator magnet calendar he usually mails out.

 No kidding, right?

Hey, remember that I'm the chick whose mother used to pin "Do not use! These towels are for show!" on her guest towels.

Would I bust your horns? ;) Of course not! :rotfl:

wow, It's always something.

I thought you were a first time home buyer. You don't have a selling agent. It would be fairly common for the seller's agent to get them a token gift and your agent (buyer's) to get you one. Most buyer's agents tend to give something during the walk-through before closing or directly after closing.

Oops... meant BUYERS! :headache: I'll go change that!

We have always got a little something. Once it was an engraved name plate for our door and the others were cards and some little thing that I am not remembering right now!

We also usually get a Christmas Card from the realtor, and one would send birthday cards for all of us also. In our Texas home we would be invited every year to his wife's Annual Cookie Exchange and Party. I never went, but it was nice to be invited! And yes, he was our selling agent when we moved!
