Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

This is the ship going between our 2 piers, North and South as it leaves the River Tyne and enters the North Sea. We live near the port which is in a town called North Shields and the South pier is located in a town called South Shields. It's a great fishing area and boasts the best fish in the north. It's a huge fishermen's working area called the Fish Quay. We also have a ferry to take us across the Tyne to get to the other town.
Just a few facts about our location. X

52 days until we check into BCV. So excited....
Did online check in and all it would allow me is high floor/woods view (we already requested 2 beds in 2nd bedroom via DVC as we have a 2 bedroom BCV room)
I really want a new room and I assume I can ask for this the day we check in? We check in around 11am ish.

The layout for a dedicated studio vs. a lock-off studio are virtually the same. The only slight differences with the lock-off are that you have the connecting door which is in the foyer [front] area of the room and the foyer area is slightly roomier in a lock-off than a dedicated studio. And by slightty I mean slightly. I recall a small shelf with coat hooks in the lock-off foyer area which a dedicated does not have.

As far as the service road noise, you can barely hear it when the doors are closed and for us it's tolerable when enjoying the balcony.

Thank you very much, great helpful information.

Recently got back from a first time stay at Beach Club. We were assigned a handicap room, which was a little inconvenient because it only had one sink and the door is slow to close, but the proximity to the lobby and the marketplace could not be beat. A little bit of a bummer at check in since we had to wait until 3:30 for our room to be ready. Overall though it was a great place to stay. Beds were very comfy. Busses were always pretty timely for us. Pool was nice, but a little too big for my liking. We watched the HS fireworks from the beach of the hotel. They were great.

I know this may only be important to a select few people, but I found out before our first trip that the parks do not sell gum. I was so glad that I read that because for one of my boys, it's almost a necessity. It may sound strange, but gum chewing helps him stay focused and relaxed. The mint (or sour) flavor is "stimulating" and the chewing is like a substitute for fidgeting with his hands. :hyper:

And, others may just enjoy chewing gum! :D

They don't sell it at the airport either, as far as I know, so don't plan to buy it there.

What are the benefits to staying club level at BC? We'll be there 12/13-12/20 and are booked in a standard room. We'll have free dining, so the food in the lounge is not a huge perk. Can those of you who have stayed club level tell me why you do? TIA!

Thank you so much for the info. I tried looking before and didn't see them. I am SOOOOOO glad they have them, it's one of the highlights of my sons trip. I am surprising everyone with the beach club. I appreciate you getting the info to me. Is the Marketplace real crowded in the morning? It looks kind of small.
Yup they were just recently added. This was one of the ONLY things we were a little bummed about booking BC, since we LOVE mickey waffles and we are used to staying at resorts that always had them. When we found out that they added them to the Marketplace breakfast menu, we were super happy and excited! We are staying at BC for the first time also, so I am not sure how busy it is in the mornings. I was also a little concerned about seating there. I'm sure someone here can answer, but are there any tables in or around the Marketplace where we can sit and eat breakfast?

The snacks and drinks available
Quick and easy breakfast
Having some place to hang out and relax besides our room
Having IPO available for any planning/reservations needed if I'm in a pinch for time
There's a cool feeling we get when we use our Magic Bands to get off on a Club Level floor or access the Lounge. Like we're special, when we really aren't! :rotfl2::cool1:

Post 12 on Page 1 of this thread has some info and pictures including some reviews of the resort Club Level.

Our favorite part of staying club level is the breakfast. We don't normally do a sit-down breakfast in the morning because we like to maximize park time with the low crowds. So even when we have had the meal plan, we would have a quick breakfast in the lounge, get to the parks for early extra magic hour and then use the dining plan for lunch and dinner.

Reminds me of a story from one of our trips. As you explain above, when you are staying at club level, you have to use your Magic Band (or at that time Key to the World "Gold" card) to get to the 5th floor. We got onto the elevator with a teenaged girl and as she exited on the 3rd floor she turned back and said (snottily) "Enjoy your Club Level!"

Funny thing my Mum's family lived in South Shields years ago, they had a general goods and tea shop and went on the specialise in clothing. Grandad could knit a mean Arran jumper He was also a whizz at mending fishing pots and repairing boats. He often helped my great uncle with his yacht over the years. Small world isn't it

There are tables just outside of Marketplace, but not many. There is more seating outside on the patio and there is always the Solarium. While Marketplace can get rather hectic in the morning, finding a place to eat shouldn't be too taxing depending upon the season/time of the morning. We are always out and about prior to 8:00 a.m. and there were seats/tables available each time we were by Marketplace.

Just wanted to say hi from BCVs. DD 18 and I arrived safely last night for an 11 night stay. DH joining us on Friday. Feeling relieved we did not experience any first hand impacts of TS Colin. Driving down I95 towards it had us nervous, but the trip was uneventful and traffic was good. I guess Colin knew we were coming and wanted to get out of our way!

Because I don't have the quick wit and amazing writing talent of NM and Dee, :worship::worship::worship:I am just planning to post live notes as we go. Nobody would read my trip report anyway. Here I have a built in audience:rotfl2:

I think I have everyone's info requests and will post responses with pics later today. After our 14 hr drive we were too whipped to handle them last night. It was so nice to get that friendly Welcome Home greeting at the guard shack when we arrived.

We arrived around 5 pm...yes we were on the road by 3am...had done online checkin and received an email at 4:15 saying our room was ready and we could skip the front desk. We felt a little weird not going into the lobby right away but we were so tired we wanted to get unloaded, have a cocktail and head down to SAB as soon as possible. I had requested a lagoon/quiet pool view on a high floor with a large balcony if possible in that order (also gave a few room examples). Did not care if we had a "new" room or not. We did get our pool/lagoon view on 3rd floor, small balcony. It is a refurbished room. My magic band from this trip was the only one that didn't work but we usually bring ones from our previous trip in case one gets lost so we were ok there-they all worked.

I posted previously how disappointed I was with the lack of cleanliness in the hallways of the Polynesian on a recent trip and that trend seems to be continuing here. The hallways had clearly not been vacuumed recently. Maybe they had a mouse keeping shortage due to the weather? Will give them the benefit of doubt for yesterday. Hoping the vacuum comes thru today. Mouse keeping does seem to be little off in general, however. I had to sweep the floor in our kitchenette area when we arrived. In addition, when I went to use the bathroom, I didn't realize it until I needed it but there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. At all. Not even a partially used one or any unopened rolls on top of the toilet tank, which is where they usually leave it. Did eventually locate it in the vanity area outside the bathroom. Hmmm. Not sure what I was going to do with it there. Maybe NM has some ready uses such as tp'ing the room? She always has such helpful hints. But a minor inconvenience...maybe I was a little cranky from the long trip. Today is a new day!

We did request an alarm clock and DVD player when we arrived. I think I called the front desk number. Should I be calling a different number? The guy who answered was a little brisk and just said he would submit the requests and the rather perfunctory Anything else? No? Have a magical day. When we came back to the room later we did have one of the docking station alarm clocks in the room. It was plugged in over by the tv. The nightstand had been pulled out from the wall (and left pulled out?) I guess to plug it in there but the wall plug was being used for the phone. It could have been plugged into the outlet built into the nightstand, but the new nightstand was so small there wasn't much room. More on the refurb in a later post when I can take pics. Unfortunately the dimmer button didn't work on the clock and it made the room so bright I had to unplug it. Will request a new one today. We didn't get the DVD player. So, not a stellar start to our trip, but it could have been so much worse. We are just happy to be here. I am wondering if perhaps the staff is salty about the hours cutbacks and we the guests are the recipients?

We did get one magical surprise. Our family got an invitation being given to random DVC members for an advance screening of the new Finding Dory movie to be held this Saturday morning at Disney Springs, which is a week before it comes out in theaters. Although we most likely wouldn't have gone to see it in the theater, we come often and have done most things so we are always up for a new experience. We jumped on this and moved what few things we had scheduled around to be able to attend. We are really looking forward to it!

As Tigger (I think it was Tigger) would say...

TTFN!

Off to make some Disney magic.

:welcome: home!

Thanks for the great report and kind words.

I think you can call housekeeping for the clock and DVD player. Sorry to hear you had a surly CM (probably at a call center, not front desk)

That is cool about the invite to finding Dory. We were at Universal/Islands of Adventure when Deathly Hallows II was released- the people who went to the midnight screening of the movie at City Walk were treated with a private couple of hours in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter after the show. We didn't do this, but we were in the park a couple of hours later.

Have a fabulous trip!

Since we are not staying at the BC instead of CBR with free dining, we will be paying OOP for our meals. I am probably going to be cancelling a lot of my dining adr's for dinner (Cape May, Ohana and LTT). Since it would cost our family of 5 around $200 for dinner and I don't feel like it's worth paying that much. I wanted to know where people staying at BC venture out for dinner. I made a reservation for Schula''s (I know it's expensive but it's high end). Any other restaurants that can be suggested? We do have a car, so can go off property but would rather stay on property. We will be at the BC from 8/25 thru 9/4, 10 nights, so excited!

This reminds me of our latest trip when a woman literally pushed her way through a group waiting for the elevator saying, "I am club level! I am club level!" Ummmmm okay.....I don't know if she wanted the elevator all to herself or if she didn't understand that it would stop at the third floor before the fifth, regardless of her status!:lmao:

I don't have a recommendation, but more of a suggestion. Disney Springs has SO many options, and more to open. Have you looked into those restaurants?

Disney Springs does have a lot to offer from a dining standpoint, but getting back and forth can be a challenge even with a car (heavy traffic). We love the access to EPCOT and the array of dining options there. Of course, there is always ESPN and Big River Grille for casual dining on the Boardwalk. Captain's Grille is hit or miss although we have never had a complaint. Then there are the restaurants at Swan and/or Dolphin. Blue Zoo is wonderful although pricey. Kimono's has good sushi and Il Mulino offers nice Italian. At Picabu in the Dolphin you have a variety of options at a more reasonable rate--this is cafeteria style service. We really enjoy the build your own burritos and the whole pizzas are better than Boardwalk. There is also a casual outdoor restaurant (Cabana Bar & Grill) at the Dolphin which has some nice choices. Loads of options within a short walk.

This is exactly why I love staying at the Beach Club. There are great counter service options to be found in EPCOT, so although it is not a sit down dinner, you are just steps from exotic Moroccan cuisine, yummy Japanese offerings, Fish & Chips and my all-time favorite counter service Sunshine Seasons.

We haven't been to Via Napoli, but I hear their pizza servings are huge and delicious.

La Hacienda is our newest must-do sit down meal. They have a couple of options for meals for two- Again, enough food to share with more than 2 people, so that you don't need to order entrees for everyone.

For resort dining, Kona Café is good and the portions are huge. My family would be comfortable sharing 3 meals with 4 people.

We find that at a lot of Disney (and local) restaurants. Our family of four will order 2-3 entrees and supplement with a salad to share and/or appetizers.

:thumbsup2
