Resort Thread Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE

It sounds to me like thy are planning to shift from the exterior work on the villas to working on the main lodge. I’m hoping that means the villas are almost done. :)
Boo! I have a water view room (not dvc) booked for the end of Oct but I don’t want to see cranes on the front of the building. Maybe I better switch resorts. Bummer.

I’m really hoping the construction is done by January and that it’s not too major. Finally talked my DH into staying at BR/WL (he’s not a huge fan of the theme) and I want it to be perfect, its the first, and may be the only time we stay here. And there’s no availability anywhere else for those two weeks so I can’t switch resorts. Probably overreacting but I’m worried lol

I guess there are many different opinions on how exterior refurbishments affect a stay. I find interior ones more disruptive and pool closures as well. Although I did stay in the lodge once during an interior refurb and luckily I wasn’t directly below the floor being worked on. I might not have even been in the same wing. Anyhow, there are many areas around the lodge that are beautiful and I don’t plan to let a crane or two ruin my stay there. If someone is painting on my balcony, I may change my tune, but we will be in the parks for most of the work hours. If I need to escape it when not in the parks, there’s always that beautiful lobby and all its nooks and crannies to hang out in! I will enjoy the music and the vibes inside and down by the water and whatever else is unobstructed by the exterior work. I am not changing my resort.

As someone who seems to always be booked in a Disney hotel that ended up going under some sort of refurb (seriously, it's happened so many times that Disney gave us a free trip), I'd say it really depends on where the work is being done in relation to the room, and the time of day rather than interior vs exterior. We've had interior renovations going on the floor below us, but it didn't bother us for 99% of the trip until of course the morning after a late night they started working directly under our room and started at 7am, even though it was said they wouldn't start until 9. There have been times they're just doing exterior refurb and it's been so much louder than the interior stuff when they were power washing near and directly outside our room (again this happened the morning after a super late night). But the worst is coming back from the parks for a mid-day break to find workers on your balcony when you just want to sit out there.

So all that to say, I don't think one is worse than the other, they both can negatively impact a stay, but at the same time they could both not impact the stay at all, it all depends on where it is happening in relation to the room. Some of the trips with refurb happening we hardly noticed it, but the times we did, we really noticed it!

And yes, it sounds like once again they've decided to do refurb at the hotel we have booked. Thanks Disney! :rotfl2:

Yay, good for you! I guess you’re better than me. I for one, on my one and only stay at the resort, would prefer not to have cranes and construction equipment in all of my pictures. I would prefer my very first and likely only stay at the lodge, a 2 week trip which in total is costing thousands and thousands of dollars, to be the normal, beautiful lodge I signed up to stay at. I’ve stayed at the poly and BWV a million times and I know I’ll be back so construction there wouldn’t bother me as much. Kind of like you and WL. I understand construction has to happen but I don’t have to be happy about it lol

I totally understand! I hope you can find an alternative that works for you. I’m hoping there won’t be cranes all over the place!!

I decided to switch to CR. I just don’t want to spend that much to maybe have cranes or construction and noise and there’s just no way to know where the construction will be at by the end of October so I just decided to switch rather than stress about it. It did cost more but Ive never stayed at CR so Im excited to try it out.

It’s always better to make decisions that make it possible for you to look forward to a trip instead of worrying about it! Happy planning!

We've stayed at the WL several times during exterior refurbishments. In those times it included scaffolding set up one section at a time. Workers would work on the exterior of the building and on the balconies. It was a little annoying if you happened to be in a room that had scaffolding in front of it. But the work area was limited to one section at a time. I don't know if that is the plan this time. But it didn't involve heavy construction equipment like cranes.

We also stayed at the WL when they completely rebuilt the main pool, added Geyser Point and built the cabins. That did involve heavy duty construction equipment and lots of noise. They also built the new DVC pool. I don't think the upcoming exterior refurbishment will involve anything like that, since those areas are already finished.

We have a trip to WL in February and are hoping for the best. :)

Do I need quarters for the laundry?

We are arriving late... I assume it's best to just do online check in? We are about two weeks out. I don't know if I should just do the online check in now.

I don't know about the laundry, sorry!

However, I like to check in online when I have a fairly good idea of what time we'll probably arrive at the resort. That way I have a good chance of getting a text message with our room number and location in it, or the room number will pop up in MDE, so we can go straight to our room without stopping at the front desk.

Let me make clear that checking in online does not mean we can't go to the front desk when we arrive, it simply means we don't have to go there, unless we have a question about our room that we want to settle before we enter it.

Hi all,

Our WL vacation is almost here! We have the dining plan. Where do you recommend eating for QS? We requested a ground floor room with a rock patio. Any last minute suggestions? We are a married couple in our 30's. Adult's only.

Thank you all as always!

At WL only Roaring Fork is QS or do you mean at the Parks?

That is a really limiting room request. There are only (2) regular rooms that have a ground floor rock patio. What room category did you book?

Just for WL. We booked a King room with a water view. Thank you!

Sorry but there is no match for a King room on the ground floor. They are only on floors 3 - 6 and all overlook the upper courtyard or lower courtyard and pool area. There are about 7 rooms that overlook the pool, geyser, and Bay Lake in the distance.

These 7 rooms are also near the elevator in the wing section that opens across the hall from Roaring Fork on the Ground floor. Room numbers are 5035, 5037, 5039, 5041, and 6035, 6037, 6041.

Also the WL has a unique offering where you may have the option to add Club Level access at the Front desk when you check-in. It is $149 per night and you must add it to your lenght of stay. You can't add this option in advance since there is a limit availability.
