Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

I know POFQ and POR share pools, but my question is do they also share beverage machines? Meaning, can I use my refillable mug at both locations?

Thanks!

Now the refillable mugs are good at ANY WDW resort.:thumbsup2

When is there going to be pool construction??????

From Andre's awesome portorleans.org site.

The Port Orleans French Quarter swimming pool, Doubloon Lagoon, will be closed for refurbishment from mid-January until the end of February 2014 (which includes the busy President's Day week). The dates are tentatively 13 Jan - 28 Feb, but that may change slightly depending on how long the work eventually takes. Disney will be running a free shuttle service between POFQ and POR during the closure to allow guests to use any of the six Riverside pools in the meantime.

The POFQ hot tub will also be closed for some of the time, but not necessarily for the whole of the refurbishment period. The laundry and kids playground will remain open, but the Mardi Grogs pool bar and the restrooms will be closed.

just got back from our stay and from all the posts I was so looking forward to this. we will not be going back. I know everyone is different and like different things but the service was sooooo bad. the resort itself is nice, it was just the service and for the whole time we were there.
i'd like to think I just got a bad week. there were others who were complaining as well so it wasn't just us. wish I could report a better result but I thought I should just mention our experience.

yes, you still can refill your mugs at the other resort.

Would you be able to share any specifics? 'Service' is very general.

I've been coming here over 20 years and I sadly have to agree service this trip was horrible from mousekeeping to customer relations. We are still here and I'm not going into details but I have never had such bad service here in my life.many of the CMS plain right out stunk. But I will come back everyone has off weeks. Guess this was just one of them. Front desk cms were plain nasty staff was nasty , couldn't even get a lousy piña colada had to go over to riverside

Trying to decide between standard view and garden view. I figure we won't be in the room much so I'd rather put the money towards something else. Any thoughts? This will be my first trip to POR FQ. Past stays at GF, Poly, and AOA.

Are there any buildings with exceptionally bad standard views?

Anyone familiar with a bldg 4 standard view room?

Thanks for your help!!!!

I don't typically worry about views, and even moreso at values and mods...it's not like there's a balcony to sit on and stare out at. :confused3 I usually keep the windows closed at values and mods since people are always walking by. I would just save the money. :thumbsup2

I had initially booked bldg 4 standard view, but had to upgrade to garden view to use FD PIN. We would have been fine with standard view. that view in bldg 4 faces the bus stops and parking lot but its still pretty. We got off the bus and were in our rooms in 2-3 minutes; nice late a night with little kids. Bldg 4 is also close to the food court. Great location IMO.

Just wanted to say that I got back from my 1st POFQ stay last night. What a great little resort!! :goodvibes I spent 5 nights/6 days and found my room to be extremely clean. Mousekeeping was wonderful! All of the CM's were fantastic. I had two continuing reservations at POFQ in order to apply my 35% military discount to all nights of my stay and the front desk made sure that I did not have to switch rooms! which was great. I was in building four, room 4334. It met our requests of 3rd floor and corner room. We had a working fridge in the room. The buses were great!!!! Came very frequently and never too full. Not once did we share with POR. All in all, I can't say one bad thing about POFQ. My only other moderate stay was CBR, which we didn't like. POFQ blew it out of the water on all counts! :thumbsup2

I was just wondering if this was a standard view or garden view room?

If you don't plan to spend a lot of time at the resort, then a standard view is fine. It will most likely be of the parking lot and/or bus stop, but that makes it a faster trip to the room after a long day. Building 4 is close enough to the pool and food court. Save the money and go with whatever is cheaper. There really are no "poor" views as everything is very clean and you'll have the trees and grass areas to view. Any view won't compare with the Deluxe resorts though.

We booked pool view for our next stay in August, but we normally have at least 2 half days where we just relax and enjoy the resort. The kids like to spend a lot of time at the pool and it puts us close to the pool where they can just head over and we can see them from the room if it is floor 2 or 3.

Would you be able to share any specifics? 'Service' is very general.

sure and i'll try to shorten it up a bit.
we had two reservations simply because the first night did not qualify for the room only discount. i knew from the dis that we would have to check out after the first night and check back in. this was confirmed when i made the reservation by phone. they said they would link the two reservations and we should have not worries staying in the same room, that it seldom was a problem.
when we arrived at the resort the cm said here are your cards and your magic bands, here is your room have a good stay. i said do we not have to come back in the morning and do the check out/check in thing. she laughed and said no, absolutely not. we were good to go, have a nice stay, bye. since our cards were imprinted with the entire stay dates i just thought that they must have changed their policy and we left to go to a park. did not have a room assignment at that point as we had arrived early in the day.

when we returned i asked the front desk for the room number, we dropped our bags off and went to take the boat to dtd (another story of bad service for later). when we returned from dinner at dtd there was a message on our phone saying they hoped we had a pleasant stay, check out was by 11, thanks. i told my husband there was an error and i would go to guest services in the morning and fix it.

next morning down to guest services, got in line and one of the cm's with an iPad thingy approached me and said she could help me. i told her i was unsure of that but she insisted i get out of line and follow her so i did. i told her the issue, showed her my card with the dates of stay and she said no worries it must have been an error with the call. she keyed away at her iPad and hummed and hawed and went from a smile on her face to confusion. that took about 5 minutes. then she asked me to wait a minute and left to talk with one of the people i would have seen if i had stayed in line. they had heads together and were looking very confused. he was on his terminal, she on her iPad and they kept comparing notes. i finally walked over and they started to whisper and point at things so i could not hear. after a bit he said to me 'i'm going to have to call the back room'. not knowing who or what the 'back room' was i said fine. that was a very long call. finally i heard him say 'so we are looking at the wrong spot and should ignore what we see?', answer must have been yes cause he looked at me and said they were wrong and i did need to check out and check back in. i asked about keeping the same room, he said no, there was a new room assigned. i told him that was not exceptable as we had unpacked due to the fact the first cm told us we were staying in the same room. he told the 'back room' this and they put him on hold to see what they could do. the cm asked me to have a seat and when he got an answer he would come get me. about 10 minutes later he came over and said good news, we could stay in the same room but come on back and get the new cards and the new magic bands. all in all it took about an hour to get this done.

my dh went to epcot that day and i decided it was to be a pool day for me. i went back to the room at 2 p.m. and it was still not serviced. a bit later there was a knock at the door and the maid asked me when we were leaving so she could get the room ready for the next guest. i told her we were not leaving, please make up the room. she wasn't happy at all, i got the impression she did not believe i should be there.

later that night there was a message on the phone, your checking out tomorrow, hope you had a good time. you have to be kidding!!! i was not happy and i went to guest services and went through the same bit again but the cm just brushed me off. i was not at all happy but i left. the next morning i went back to guest services because i wanted to make sure we did not have to move out of the room we were in. i got in line but i happened to see the cm who had been on the phone with the 'back room', he was walking by. i stopped him and asked if he remembered helping me, that i knew he was with a client but if i could speak with him after his client i would be grateful. he said yes he remembered me but get in line and anyone could help me. oh, and maybe you want to get in that line over there cause it looks like it will not take as long. what i got out of that was i don't want to deal with it again and in case you get in my line and get my wicket you should go over there cause i'm not posted their and i don't have to deal with it. another hour wasted.

that night, you know where i'm going right, we received a message. your checking out tomorrow, hope you had a good time. it was just brutal!

i could go on with other problems and issues but this gives you an idea of what kind of service we were getting. no one knew what they were doing or cared. on the day we were leaving their was a family who were two rooms down from us who were locked out of their room, according to them, once again and were on their way to guest services. they told us they were at guest services every day, at least once, since they had arrived. now if you want to talk mad, they were furious and were talking about what they were going to demand for the waste of their time. not sure how they made out but i did feel their pain.

again, guest services was just one issue. the resort was very nice. mouse keeping was awful, the beds were never made, just the cover was pulled up and not even neatly. the room was just dirty. i could go on for a day about that.

hope this clarifies a bit. sorry its so long.

Tinkerone ~ That is so frustrating!!! Sorry you had to go through that!

I will say that we had the opposite experience with the same situation in Sep/Oct...I had to book two separate reservations because of the old military discount ending and the new one beginning.

9/27/13 - 9/29/13 was booked under the old mil discount
9/29/13 - 10/2/13 was booked under the new mil discount

Upon initial check in, I asked if it was possible to be able to stay in the same room, they said YUP, and that I had already been assigned to the same room on the second reservation.

I did have to go to the front desk on 9/29/13 to pick up a new KTTW card, but it was very seamless. I was happy because it was the first time I'd have to deal with that situation and I was nervous it would be a disaster.

You'll be either facing the bus stop or the parking lot. If you're facing the bus stop it's almost a garden view because there's so many trees and bushes before you get to the bus stop that I wouldn't mind getting a room like that.

Last trip we paid for garden view and I had request building 4. Our room, 4105, was perfect! It did not faced the bust stop directly but instead faced the pretty garden just outside our room. And we're so close to the bus stop that we're back inside our room just 1-2 minutes after debarking. No noise whatsoever though.
