Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Getting soooo excited-leaving for POFQ in 12 days!!!! pixiedust:

A couple of questions to clarify before we head out:

-do the fridges have a little freezer section? Does anyone have a pic of the inside of the new fridges?

-when should I fax my room request to POFQ? We put our original requests on the reservation, but how close to arrival before faxing them? Connecting rooms are a MUST, as well as good proximity for walking as my mom is disabled (she can walk, just not long distances)

Can't wait for our 1st visit to POFQ! Seems like we've been counting down forever! LOL

no freezer section in the new fridges. Room requests should be faxed 3-5 days before arrival. We got every request we made:

Connecting Rooms
Bldg 4
Higher floor
one fridge between the 2 rooms-we both had fridges even though when we checked in the CM told us they still had a shortage.

Hi. I haven't been on this thread for a few days so forgive me if this has been addressed. I had spoken with my TA about possibly switching resorts over the POFQ pool closure in February. She called Disney to see what's available and the CM told her there is no scheduled closure at POFQ. Now I know CMs don't always have accurate info, but I was hoping this might somehow be true??? Did they change the schedule?

Who runs this site? Is it 100% legit? I don't doubt it, but I asked a CM and they didn't have info on the pool closure and said we would get a letter if it was going to happen. My MIL now wants to change resorts for a hot tub. I would rather stay put and save the extra $300 we would have to use for a hot tub.:confused3

I just spoke to POFQ resort and asked if it was closed during our stay 1/25-2/1. Was told just the 20th & 21st.:scratchin
I sure hope they are right.

Andre, who is in charge of both the Port Orleans Riverside and Port Oreans French Quarter forums, runs portorleans.org. He is a very reliable source of information. Also, I'm a TA and the closure is listed on the Disney Travel Agents website. I've copied and pasted how it is listed on the site below:

Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter

Doubloon Lagoon Pool - transportation will be provided for Guests to swim at Ol' Man Island Pool at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside

01/13/14 - 02/28/14

Does anyone know why they are closing the pool? Doesn't this have something to do with the rumored fencing in of pools from a few months ago?

Ok. Thanks. Poo.... This is why I get so confused.

Does anyone have a recent pic of the new bedding? Just was interested in seeing a pic before we get there in 64 days :)

french quarter does have a hot tub. it is not right next to the pool (which I love. fewer kids jumping in and out, splashing around) . as you walk from the food court to the pool, it's on your left.

all the moderate resorts have hot tubs.

Is it worth the extra money to get a water view in FC? We are going for a week in March what would be the best room type to get?

We were just there Nov 2-10. It was awesome as ever.

Building 5 facing grass courtyard where they show movies and have the evening campfire..(Garden View room)

We've stayed in Building 5 for every one of our previous trips to POFQ, and we are hooked. We'll request this location (and even wait for a room to be ready if it becomes available,) from now on. It's close to the main building, close to the pool (and for mom & dad, the pool bar) and short walk to the bus stops. The grass courtyard is a great spot for the kids to let off some steam, and our kids often ran around the square in the morning while one of us was watching them and the other was getting ready.

We've been all over that resort, and IMHO, Building 5 facing the grass courtyard, Garden View is the best location at POFQ hands down.

Just a white sheet. Not much of a fun picture, as compared to the awesome purple & gold bed spreads they had after the refurbishment in 2011.

3 days prior to arrival, after 3pm is what we've always followed, based on advice from a friend who's been published in the "Passporter" guide several times.

And below is the format of the room request we use.

Greetings from Hastings, NE!

My wife & I are very excited that our Fifth Disney Family vacation is finally at hand, and we would like to see if you could please help accommodate our room requests for November 2-November 10, 2013. This will be our fourth visit to French Quarter, our home away from home! We have booked a Garden View Room, and would love to be in Building 5, facing the grass courtyard where the movies are shown (we have stayed here for each of our prior trips.) Our little Disney Fanatics, Wyatt, age 9 (his 4th trip) and Avalon , age 5 (her 3rd trip), will certainly appreciate a very quiet room for naps and recovering from all the fun! Well be celebrating Wyatts 10th Birthday on November 7th!

Thank you in advance for any help you can give us in making our trip Disney Wonderful!

couldn't even get a lousy piña colada had to go over to riverside

That's sad, and I'm sorry to report that it might actually be my fault, because I had so many of them during our 9 days there, maybe I broke it. Seriously, they were awesome and I couldn't stop drinking them.

Just so you know when you call and talk to a cm at any of the resorts... you are actually calling a call center... They field the calls and then transfer you to the proper person...

They often don't have the most up to date info at the call centers. Happens all the time.

Usually it is those here on the boards with contacts who gets the info out... and we are lucky to have them! :thumbsup2

This is where I was on my first stay at POFQ earlier this year and I loved it! Couldn't have asked for a better location!
