Curious about the new monorail deck. Can anyone tell yet if they altered the deck height to allow ECVs/wheelchairs to roll straight in without using the metal ramp? This could indicate a precursor to a new monorail (hopeful).
I brought this up a week or so ago. I don't think we're going to know for sure until it opens. The problem I see (after thinking about it awhile) is that the cause of the current situation with the ramps is that the current version of the monorail cars were built out of spec. Doors were supposed to be flush with the station decks as the previous models were. Someone made a mistake somewhere and what we got were cars that were 6-8 inches too high.
If they raise the Poly's deck to make it flush with the existing trains, there would then be two different deck heights in the system. That would work fine for now, but what do they do in the future when they finally replace the monorail cars? If they raise the Poly's deck, they basically lock themselves into making new cars fit the Poly, and the other 4 stations have to continue using the ramps. That seems like a poor choice in the long term. More likely, the new Poly deck will be at the same height as the old one - unless they've figured out a way to add on the extra 6-8 inches in such a way that it can be easily removed in the future.
