Staying at Poly DVC in June. I've heard it's very noisy there, is that true? Otherwise very excited! I haven't been in June yet, are the crowds crazy?
Thank you!!

Noisy in what way? We stated there may great, in Moorea, and didn't notice any noise. Unless they're talking about the proximity to the TTC and the ferry? Hardly noticed it.

I have a question about room requests. We have a DVC standard view studio booked (on points, not cash reservation) and it seems that the most popular request seems Tokelau. Of course I would love a room there as well, but really my main issue is that I don't want a parking lot view. I am considering to put exactly this in as a request with Member Services and just ask for "not parking lot view". Has anyone tried this? I am a bit concerned as I am not sure if putting a negative wording in makes sense. I am afraid someone would miss out on the NOT and then we will end up with the exact oposite of what we want...

Definately a worry that they would overlook the NOT. I have heard of many winding up just that way. Usually my only requests are high floor but at Poly I can't decide on high floor or those nice patios on the ground floor! I too have rented points and requested Tokelau. I really don't want the parking lot view but if I get it and a request at the front desk does not get me moved I will have to look at it as MONORAIL view.

I am going to the POLY!!!!!

This might be a silly question, but I was scouring this thread & read a post that said they hoped for 2 queens but got stuck with a king upon check-in. We are a party of 5 (3 adults, 2 kids) booked in a regular standard view room - obviously a king wouldn't cut it for 5 people. Do we run a risk of getting that or will they definitely put a party of our size into a 2 queen room?
You will be given 2 Queens. We are a party of 5 also and I've asked the question before just to be sure. They will default a party of 5 to 2 Queens before giving it to a party of 2. When my DH and I have traveled solo to WDW we are usually given a King room for this same reason in the reverse.

Great to know! Thanks so much! :)

Ok thanks! I'll check out the menu :)
I prefer Kona over anything else, well except the dinner at Ohana because of the bread pudding. But Kona has a great breakfast, try the macadamia nut pancakes. Prefer that over tonga toast, but thats just my opinion. If you are there for lunch or dinner try the surf and turf burger. Was there in Feb and had both and was not disappointed. Enjoy wherever you end up!

I was there last month in Tokelau on the east side of the building close to the TTC and barely heard the ferry horn. The only noisy thing at the poly is the fireworks from the MK. The first time I was there in our room I didn't expect them to echo so much. But not sure what else would make the resort noisier then other resorts.

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting the following changes to MK Guest Security begin on Monday, April 3rd:

- metal detectors and bag checks at TTC
- Monorail Resorts' guests will go through security screening at the resorts' Monorail Stations
- metal detectors and bag check at MK for guests arriving by bus.

I am a little disappointed with the discounts released today because I really wanted Poly, but the only thing available with a discount for my dates was Theme Park view or Club Level which is pricier than standard without a discount....I was able to get a good deal at the Boardwalk, but I will keep checking to see if the Poly opens up and when the APs come out . . .I am thinking probably not since there was not availability at the start :(

Keep checking as availability can change ;).

Same happened to me. Really wanted Poly for last week in August. No availability for today's discount. So, I booked Yacht Club instead. We always stay at bc/yc and wanted to try something new. I will keep checking back.

I hope something opens up and you are able to change to the Poly :wizard:.

Hi Folks!
We will be arriving on a Sat. evening in May and staying by Disney Springs. We will then be "checking in" at 7am at the Poly the following morning. Will they think we are nutso checking that early?? We certainly don't expect a room to be ready but that is just when we are arriving so we can get to MK as early as possible.

Thank you! :)

Not nuts at all as plenty of people check in that early :goodvibes.

Hello everyone, I'm super excited for our first Disney trip coming up April 15th. I researched all the resorts and the Poly seems like the right choice for our family. I booked a standard view room for our family of 4 (2adults, 2kids). I want to send in a request on touring plans. Which longhouse should I request? I would like to maybe try to get somewhat of a nicer view even though we do have standard view. Also what floor would be best? My husband thinks first floor, but I think third might be best due to the balcony. Also, I would love the 2q queen beds and not the 1 king bed if all possible. Can I put that in the request also? Thanks!

I don't think any location at the Poly is a bad, but our favorite for standard view is Samoa. It's centrally located so it's just steps from both pools, the GCH, Captain Cooks, and the beach. I am not one for 1st floor rooms, so my request would be 3rd floor with a balcony. You could make a second request for 2 queens, but I don't think that would be necessary as your chances are probably slim of getting a king room with 4 people. Hope you have a great first trip and enjoy the Poly :wizard:.

I have been reading bad reviews about Ohana's dinner. We did eat there about 4 years ago and it was really good. Has it gone down hill?

For those that have been during the month of December...what did you think of the Christmas decorations? We are planning a December trip and are looking forward to the parks and resorts all lit up but from what I've read online, the decorations at The Polynesian are sparse. What did you think?
Christmas at Disney is my favorite. I love going to all the resorts to see the decorations. Poly is the only place we stay and being there at Christmas is wonderful. Like others have said, some resorts have more decorations than the poly. Just take the time to resort hop if you can. However, the poly will not dissapoint. If this is your first time going at Christmas time, you will love it.

Ohana is the one restaurant we go to on every trip to Disney. There have also been some bad reviews posted about Ohana since we have been going to Disney. We have never had a bad experience. We will be there in 4 months and have both a dinner and breakfast reservation. If you think it's an experience your family will enjoy, give it a shot. We have never been disappointed

We're staying there for a few days after Thanksgiving, so thank you for this!!! Can't wait!

We were just there in October and have nothing bad to say about our experience. Everything was delicious and the waitstaff was more than attentive. Only negative thing that happened was the location of our table being in the way of the coconut race! :rotfl2:

We had dinner here the end of November for the first time. I would say it totally depends on your tastes. I loved everything except for the beef skewers and the bread. The beef was over cooked for my tastes (anything over rare is overcooked in my books!) and DH and I thought it was not seasoned...at all! The chicken skewers were delicious and I made up for not eating beef by eating a TON of grilled shrimp. If they just brought me grilled shrimp, I'd be more than happy! I wasn't alone on the shrimp based on the piles of shrimp shells on tables around me either!

There is a LOT of food. I thought the salad and noodles were fine but I didn't eat a lot of them. I didn't eat any wings but DH said they were great. I'm not a banana person and being stuffed, wasn't planning on having any dessert but HOLY COW the bread pudding is divine! We have another reservation next month and plan on making it a "must do" for each trip!

We had a perfect view of the Castle and watched Wishes while we dined. I suspect the view was because it was my birthday and wouldn't expect it every time.

For a family style service restaurant, it far exceeded my expectations!

Oh yes I remember the shrimp. That was my favorite.

I have been reading bad reviews about Ohana's dinner. We did eat there about 4 years ago and it was really good. Has it gone down hill?

We were there a year ago and we were disappointed but I think it was a special case. They lost our reservation somewhere (the person at the front kept telling us to wait, as the hostess in the back knew we were there, and when I finally asked the hostess a full 30 min later, she said it looked like we had been seated a half hour before). We were with a 2 year old and had deliberately booked a very early reservation so it was not cool to wait so long while watching so many others being seated promptly. When we were seated, our server was flustered because we threw off the whole section in terms of timing, and she made comments insinuating that it was our fault that we were late. The food was fine but not special. I did really enjoy the dessert.

That said, I do have brunch plans for our next visit in August and am hoping that the reservation mix-up was a one time thing.

I would say that 'Ohana reviews are what they are. 'Ohana is heavily, heavily hyped, and hard to get a reservation, and expensive. So people expect the moon, stars and sun. So delayed seating and a lack of celestial providence may result in griping, KWIM?

"Family Style" isn't my first pick for Disney Dining. There are a few (I'm looking at you Garden Grill) where you couldn't pay me to eat there again while some absolutely love these same places. For the "Family Style" reason, we'd never tried Ohana. Several trips ago I decided to try at least 2 new dining places each trip to shake our routine up a bit. In November Ohana was up and a win in our eyes!

I don't get the hour + long delay in reservation time and getting seated. Apparently it's something that always happens and as such should be corrected! It is expensive, but I think it's priced right for what you're eating, at least for dinner. It always helps there are discounts (DVC, AP, TiW) to be had as well! Not everyone will love it but that's ok! I'm not sure I would choose this for breakfast (food as the only consideration) with 1900 Park Fare just down the Monorail!
