Hey everyone! I'm at the CR right now and really enjoying it. Just wanted to let everyone know (in case it wasn't posted) that Contemporary Grounds re-opened today.

I also have to say that we got upgraded from garden wing/std. view to Tower Bay View! I was shocked, surprised and so excited. I really love it.
Did they change the location of Contemporary Grounds? I thought I read that the old location was now the Concierge desk.

Here's some info I just received by email from disney regarding the refillable mugs at the temporary counter when the food n fun centre closes.

Some people were concerned that the mugs would not be available at CR - especially when they are included in the Deluxe Dining Plan for 2008.

Here's the reply I got to the query...

"Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.

You will be happy to know that while the Food N Fun Centre is being
refurbished, Tempo Grab & Go will be offering the refillable mugs at
Disney's Contemporary Resort.

If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact
us."

I was also told by email that there they will still offer the refillable mugs. :thumbsup2

Triplefig - Thanks for the beautiful pics! Sparklesmom - You will love it! Last year our kids were 4, 5 and 8 and every night we sat on the balcony watching Wishes - it was great not having to fight the crowds at MK. I'm not sure how I'm going to wait until spring, my DH is already accusing me of being more excited than the kids. Since they don't know about the trip yet (it's a Christmas gift) I don't think that's possible.:)

Even though our next trip to CR is just over a month away we just booked our trip for next year!! Another week at CR with a MK view.

The location where the Contemporary Grounds use to be did become the Concierge desk, since part of the check-in desk is being renovated and is closed off. A Cast Member told me during that time the Contemporary Grounds would be located somewhere in the convention center.

Can you request a microwave for your room? I know that there is a small fridge & coffee pot in each room, but am not sure if a microwave is available upon request? Thanks!

Michelle, we got a microwave at the GF. I didn't ask for one at the CR, but I would think that you could get one.

We finally decided on CR for our first-ever trip to Disney World this June. We were thinking of booking a tower room with MK view, but first I thought I should explore the differences between tower and garden rooms. Besides the wonderful MK view, are there any other advantages (or disadvantages) to being in the tower vs. garden wing? Do the garden wing rooms have balconies? Is it worth the extra money to be in the tower, or is the garden wing nice, too?

Thank you!:flower3:

I guess you can say the only disadvantage to having a Magic Kingdom View room is that it's more expensive then a Garden Wing room, however if you can afford the extra money then go for it. All rooms in the Tower and Garden Wing are 100% the same, however I am 99.9% sure the Garden Wing rooms do not have a balcony. I know that 1st floor rooms in that section have patio's, however 2nd and 3rd floor rooms don't have anything.

Hi There LLS -- In my opinion, it is well worth the extra money to be in the tower, especially for your "first ever" trip to Disney. CR Resort Fan 4 Life is right, the rooms are the same, except for the extra cost tower rooms. The garden rooms do not have balconies. In our 30+ years booking with WDW, we have stayed at the Contemporary in all types of rooms from garden view, concierge, and suites. We have never been disappointed with any type room we have received. The garden rooms are nice too, it's just a matter of choice. Be sure you request a Magic Kingdom or Theme Park view, and you won't be disappointed. If you aren't able to get the type room you want before your vacation, when you check in, just ask, and if available, you will be accommodated.

Have you heard of the California Grill? It is a restaurant on the top floor of the Contemporary Resort. I find the food to be very good, and we always make reservations for dinner around firework time, as it is, again in my opinon, one of the most spectacular places on property to view the fireworks.

Whatever type accommodation you choose, I'm sure you will be happy. Have a great trip.

There is no need to request a Magic Kingdom view anymore, because it can now be booked ahead of time. The only time it needs to be requested is when someone stays on the Atrium Club, however since LLS is not staying there they don't need to do that.

Anyone here know the brand of the pillows at the CR? Another thread was asking as they are so comfortable. I didn't know, but the pillows and mattresses are fantastic!

Here are a couple of photos of the North Wing / Atrium construction from mid-last week. I'm sure things are very different by now, they are constantly working:

The way things look in those pictures is how I remember seeing it when my parents and I stayed at the Contemporary last month. However when it comes to the new store on the 4th floor I would say there making progress because, I was there when the walls around it started going up and by the time we checked out it looked like the picture you took of it.

On the fourth floor they seemed to be spending most of their time re-tiling the floors with the new tiles posted on allears.net. They were working a lot around the elevators, shops and escalators. I don't think I ever saw anyone inside that walled off area where the new shop is going to be.

As for the outside, they seemed to pour a lot of concrete while we were there.

I think you must be referring to them building the temporary grab & go location. I remember them building it by the DVC info desk and the Outer Rim Lounge, so here is a picture I took of it from my cell phone.

Yes, they had the area to the left of the Outer Rim walled off (not just the little white picket fences), so I'm sure that's where the grab & go location is being put in.

Several Cast Members confirmed that the area you are referring to will be the grab & go area. I guess that since I took that picture a lot more work to that area has been done.

Im coming down with my family on 9/9/07.
I booked the CR Tower Magic Kingdom view. I've seen other sites with pics of 2 completely different rooms.
Are all the Tower MKV newly renovated or are some of the rooms still in the older style ?
I want one of the newer rooms thanks!
