DISNEY'S CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information Thread!

I am going to be staying on Dec 4 for 12 nights, do you think most of the current work on the gift shop etc will be finished by then, from what I can see of the pics posted the bottom end of the concourse looks messy!

Also does anyone know how much of the outer rim the new tempo grab n go is taking up, I love sitting at that bar having a few drinks!

Unfortunately, I think the Outer Rim on the 4th floor is going to close and become part of the new restaurant on the 1st floor. DH and I are sorry to see it go because we always liked the lounge with the view toward Bay Lake. The new plans for the Concourse sound pretty tacky, but maybe Disney will surprise me and pull it off with some class. I just can't picture it, though.

I think the Outer Rim is probably the last of the original bars and restaurants at the Contemporary. I'll have to pull out one of the old guides and check on that.

hope thats not the case will be sad to see it go, the steakhose is our fave restaurnet and we are still sad that that is going!

I believe that the original lounge on the Grand Canyon Concourse was called "Monorail Club Car". Can't recall if it occupied the same space as Outer Rim.

My family will be at WDW Christmas 2007. I was told that the CR has a Christmas Day mass. Can anyone please give me more details?

Maybe Christmas Day will be an exception, but when planning our trip for Dec 2006, I read that there are no religious services on Disney property.:sad2:

This is the information from December 2006:

Religious Services
Catholic Mass: 8:00am and 10:15am
Protestant Service: 9:00am
When: Monday, December 25
Where: Disney's Contemporary Resort's Fantasia Ballroom

As for breakfast. Whats the quick solution at the Contemporary????

You can always buy 1/2 gallons of milk, entemann's products and yogurt in the Sundries Store. There's cereal, bagels and hot breakfast choices in the Food & Fun center. Having the fridge in the room means a lot more options. You can also grab breakfast in one of the parks if that's where you're headed.

We just returned from our 7 night stay.
I can see why some people really like the CR, but I don't think it will be an option again for us for at least a few years. With 2 of our children being under 4, I did not find it a very feasible option as far as storage and safety. I know it is all personal preference, though.
This AM we were able to get to the MK in about 15 minutes via Monorail. The walk, pushing a stroller at a pretty quick pace was a bit over 10 minutes.

The Contemp Grab n Go opened on the 9th as stated. The options are just ok. While we were there at the Food and Fun Center and the Tempo, we were able to see a few people us the YOMD mugs, so I guess at least some people were successful at using them.

Our room was not cleaned to our satisfaction many days. We had to ask multiple times for more towels, and yesterday we found smallish lizard in our room. :scared1: Actually, our 3 yr old found it! After we sort of trapped it, we called Housekeeping and the front desk to warn them so it could be taken care of while they cleaned. When we returned, our room was cleaned, but the lizard was still there.

We asked for turn down service on our first day for our stay and got it our LAST night. That was a disappointment.

Overall we were a bit disappointed. Sad to say it ,though.

Hey, anyone know if you can acess Yahoo Fantasy Sports from the internet at the CR? :cheer2: The weekend my DH and I play each other in our league we will be at in Disney! Gotta have our fantasy football fix and make those last minute changes ! :rolleyes1 I plan on fully stomping his team. :rotfl2: Thanks, marriedmyprince

I remember going on Yahoo for other reasons to look up somethings, so I would assume you could access Yahoo Fantasy Sports.

I know two web sites you can not get on is YouTube and Wikipedia and I would assume all adult websites have also been blocked.

We're with you, gavvy -- DH and I really hate to see the Concourse Steakhouse and the Outer Rim disappear. It was fun watch the monorail run through while having a nice breakfast at a table service restaurant (not that buffet stuff at Chef Mickey's) or to relax with a cocktail at the end of the day and look over Bay Lake. Plus the noise!! During our last stay at the CR we had a room at the south end of the tower and the noise from Chef Mickey's really bothered DH.

I believe that the original lounge on the Grand Canyon Concourse was called "Monorail Club Car". Can't recall if it occupied the same space as Outer Rim.

The Monorail Club Car was a tiny little bar near where the escalators are. It only seated about a dozen people and served four drinks -- monorail red, monorail purple, monorail yellow, and monorail (some other color that DH thinks was either blue or green).

The Outer Rim was where it is now but used to have cozy booths and an extensive appetizer/snack menu (shrimp, buffalo wings, cheese & fruit, that sort of thing).

Thanks for the clarification.:thumbsup2 I stayed at the CR many times in the early 70's, however I wasn't old enough to visit any of the lounges. Don't know why I remember the Monorail Club Car.

Are you sure about the Outer Rim closing with the Concourse Steakhouse? I was under the impression that it would remain open after all of the rehabs on the concourse were completed.

I would say you wouldn't be able to access this, I was just there this past weekend and tried to check my fantasy football team on ESPN. I could get on the ESPN website, but I was blocked from fantasy football. :sad2:

Something for everyone to try. When we went Sept 2006 (free internet), we took DH's laptop and used his ethernet cable to plug into the wall. We got the free internet, PLUS we were able to access all sites, including fantasy football (DH had to make line-up changes and trade players ;) ). I think the problem is that they have sites blocked on the computers in the room, NOT on their internet access. Might be worth taking your own laptop to try. We will be taking DH's again in February.

Do all the rooms at the CR have a DVD player hooked up to the flat panel TV? Our room on the Atrium Club did, but I wasn't sure if all the rooms did or not. Here's a picture of ours from Sept 2006.
