I dont know if u have TN or PN allergies but the Babycakes people ( I spoke with the owner up here in NY ) said they cant promise no tree nuts or peanuts cross contaminaton because of their suppliers , even though they dont use nuts personally. They looked so good.

We dont mind waiting for stuff. I know that with needing to see the book and have the manager come out it is a bt longer. The thing that changed that makes me nervous is most quick service places dont offer to have the manager make the food anymore. Columbia Harbor does have nuts in the salad but last time we got this manager that said that they are made by certain people that only do salads and basically said it wasnt needed to do anything up special. While the Pizza Planet manager was more than helpful and did with no issues.

All in all Disney still takes the lead with the allergies but I do wish Brenda was back in charge. It used to be so much better. It made me happy to hear that they had good chefs headed over though. Thank you for all your advice and info . :)

We have only minor PN issues and our TN issues are only a couple specific TNs. I read the Babycakes disclaimer and frankly the way I read it was that they "get" allergy and cross contamination issues. They throw away the first I think around 30lb of flour that go across any shared lines and that's after a heavy duty cleaning. Also, because some idiot declared coconut a tree nut and they use coconut heavily they have to declare that they use tree nuts. I see BC as being a lot safer than a lot of other companies out there because of the way their detail their allergy statement. Obviously each person needs to determine their own comfort level and follow their own risk levels. I'm just sharing my own stance for my family.

At resorts you shouldn't be looking through a book. You should be dealing with a chef. In parks, yes you'll be given the book. Policy has NOT changed on managers taking care of allergy needs though. I have heard scary things about one manager at CHH and feel grateful that I don't think we've encountered him. I think he's who you encountered.

I absolutely agree about Disney being a leader in allergy needs. Unfortunately, the departure of Brenda did seem to be the beginning of the decline is service but it seems as though the past 6 months have seen a significantly greater decrease in service and support from the Special Diets department. Before that, we could get close to the same help we got from Brenda but now it's horrific. I was literally fighting tears a few months ago trying to get "help" from them. Our trip still went well despite them as the majority of managers and chefs at WDW itself are wonderful.

Refrigerators- I sure as heck hope that they have them. I'd be very disappointed if they didn't. In the floor plan what's in the corner next to the window? I thought maybe that was where it was supposed to be?

Elevators- I would assume that there is elevators just like at pop. The buildings for the LM rooms have been there for years now and they were built to be just like POP (for the Legendary years) so I'm assuming they are identical to the buildings there. This is why the rooms are on the outside rather than on the inside like the suites.

As far as the fridges go......I called today to switch my POP ressie to AOA , and I asked if they would be in the rooms and I was told YES.

What you said about Babycakes makes sense. I totally forgot they now include coconut as a tree nut. We have used the oil but not tried it directly yet. I am glad you guys have eaten there safely. If my older chlid thats not nut allergic wants a snack it sounds like the best place to go. I heard they are really good. She is really protective of her brothers and wont eat anything with any of their allergens in it. This way she wont feel guilty and t could be a fun girl break.

The issue I had with special diets is the woman told me I "cant" speak with the chef at AOA because its a quick service . She had just a tad of a undertone. But that makes no sense to me if its the only food service at the entire resort . Well I just got off the phone with guest services and they are having a supervisor call me back. My husband worked as a food and beverage supervisor up here for Great Wolf Lodge ( they have a lot of the same vendors as Disney) and he wanted to ask how they handle vendors substutions . Normally I wouldnt be so crazy over all this but normally we have a kitchen or only stay a week so .

Okay I will stop griping. I do love Disney and its 90% great. I am sure everything will go smoothly. I really hope you do a trip report ! I would love to hear about where you ate and how everything went. Not to mention it would be great to see pics !

And yeah the guy at CHH was the same manager we had 2 years in a row. He is rather infamous! lol Think we might skip there this year.

Sorry to be off topic for a sec. I saw you are doing a cabin stay also? We loved it there. We just stayed 2 weeks in one at FW last Sept. . If you have any questions or need any pics feel free to PM me.

Do you know how many floors the LM buildings have?

I got it...Here is just the picture of the map. I right clicked on the small pic and then clicked on open link in new tab and there it is. It is very big so if you are printing it make sure you make it smaller. :-)

Anyone else not able to print out this resort map? I can only print out the room layout ,not the resort map. Any ideas?

Is it just me or does the Little Mermaid pool look a lot smaller than the bowling pin pool over at POP? We always stayed in that section at POP cause we really liked that pool. Hoping that it's about the same size... :confused3

cinderella73, I am afraid I didn't read all of your post about this issue or I would have worded my answer differently. Obviously you have dealt with this before. For some reason I thought you were asking about the TS restaurants. That's what I get for skimming posts while I make dinner. I hope I didn't offend.
I don't think you are being over the top at all. You are the only line of defence for your kids on this stuff and I can only imagine how nerve wracking it is.

I know with dd her diet is elective. But it is so important to her. We get the occasional person who rolls their eyes and obviously thinks we're pandering to her. So frustrating. She literally could not bring herself to eat meat anymore and asked me to please help her become a vegetarian 2 days before her 12th birthday. She just turned 15 and never looked back!
The interesting thing is that she has never, not one single time, lectured ANYONE about their food choices. So why people feel it's ok to do that to her all the time is beyond me. The kid amazes me.

Sorry for the OT rant.. I just can understand on some level how disappointing it can be when diet is not taken seriously. And in our case it's an ethics choice for her, not life threatening. I think you are doing what any concerned parent would do and I hope that the supervisor can help you.:)

The coconut they use at Babycakes extensively IS coconut oil. That's what they use as the shortening for the icing. It's delicious without being overly sweet like a lot of other bakery icings. It doesn't taste coconuty to me (I dislike coconut) and it is stiffer then when I make icing with coconut oil at home, though they do tell you to keep their iced products in the fridge because of the coconut oil.

You've got a really sweet girls on your hands. How wonderful is she?

I generally try to do a dining report. I'll have to look if I posted one this time or not. I know I posted some dining reviews on easywdw but I can't recall if I posted one this time or not. I typically put them on the disABILITIES! board rather than the dining review board since I really focus on the allergies and how it affects my 14yo's autism. If I haven't copied it yet then I'll do it shortly. Unfortunately, I have no pictures this trip as I lost my camera on DME back to the airport and everywhere we've checked (Mears, MCO, our resort, WDW parks) doesn't have it turned in to them so all of our pictures are gone. I'm so bummed because I actually got to meet chef TJ this trip (I've been doing a really bad job of attempting to stalk him; it's taken 5 trips to finally meet him so clearly I'm a terrible stalker LOL) and was so excited to get a picture with him and his famous desserts that he made for us. Sigh..... If you look far enough back in my started threads you'll see some past dining reports I've posted.

Yup, staying in cabins for the first time. We'll only be there 4 nights. I've got some ADRs booked during our stay but I'm also thinking of just doing some meals in the cabin since it sounds like I can't count on being able to eat at Trail's End so both TS and CS options are out (they're the only real CS I'm seeing; the smaller ones only serve items that I know won't be changeable to be safe). I am excited to try the cabins. I'm glad to hear you had a great experience there, especially with all of your special needs. We only have to deal with autism, nothing mobility or service animal related. I would imagine it's wonderful for service animals there but I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that cabins can be good for those with mobility needs as well.

At AoA we'll have free dining so we'll definitely be eating a lot of WDW food during that stay. I definitely plan to insist on speaking with an AoA chef to be sure of what products will be available. We'll be eating likely half of our meals from those 7 nights at the resort so I'll definitely be escallating if they refuse to put me through to somebody. Actually, I'll likely go through some contacts I've made from our many trips to see if I can go around Special Diets if they're difficult but that'll be accompanied by a scathing email to Guest Services (who ignored my last scathing email about Special Diets so I'm not sure why I bother other than to get it off my chest). I don't know why they bother with the department. I will be honest though; if I was only dealing with one or two foods that my kids were allergic to, unless egg was one of the allergies (since so many of the allergy products contain eggs) based on past experience I wouldn't even feel the need to speak with a chef as I know just how many products they do have that can suit allergies. Unfortunately, one of my kids does have an egg allergy on top of all the other ones so eve with how wonderful Disney chefs are, it does take some creativity and pre-ordering of products for chefs to really be able to take care of her.

Oh no , not offended at all ! I think your post was wonderful and helpful. And its comforting to know others with food related issues have had sucessful trips . I might not have worded my post properly. I get all fired up talking about anything food allergy related. lol So I sometimes come off as a bit over the top when I dont mean to. And as far as your daughter goes I totally understand. My other son has food texture issues. Always has , and its something after years of changing we try to work with and respect at this point. Good for your daughter that she figured out what is right for her. You sound like a great mom for respecting her choice. :)

Thats terrible about your camera ! I would be freaking out. I will look up some of your old dining reports for sure .:thumbsup2

The coconut oil sounds ok . Its actually in the Mickey bars and we have those no issues . I might have our SD check out a cupcake or something from there . Hes actually trained to also smell for trace amounts of Pn and TN . ( a place that trains arson and drug dogs scent trained him) . Its worth buying one and taking it over to a bench and testing him with it . Its amazing all the things he can do ! We are so thankful we have him! Would be so happy if we had a safe place at DTD to go.

Chef Tj works at the Gf now right? I gotta meet him next trip ! I hear hes a rockstar.

If you dont mind let if you could let me know the name of the AOA chef you speak with that would be great. Cant wait intil the full menus out so I can start planning.

I got your PM and I will message you back later tonight after the kiddos are settled in. If you give me your email I can send you pics , or I can also give you links and just upload to photobucket.

It looks like building 8 would be the one I'd try to avoid if at all possible. If we had rooms in the wings closest to the Lion King in 7 or 9 the walk would be a couple of minutes shorter.

Good for your daughter! I tried being a vegetarian when I was around your daughter's age and failed miserably because I didn't have any support, so good for you too for being so supportive!

I eat vegan all the time at home now, but when I eat out I do eat pescetarian because it's easier, and I really do miss seafood and dairy.

But Disney is so wonderful with vegetarian diets! There's a thread on the restaurant board filled with tons of information. I think AoA looks like it has some great vegetarian options, but I can't wait to see the full menu and read some reviews!

I just booked AoA for this fall with Free DDP! I am so excited to be staying at the new resort! I have looked at those unfinished buildings across the lake for years now. Last year we were able to see some of the work progressing on the Nemo buildings from our room at POP.

I'm looking forward to the change from POP. Don't get me wrong, I love POP and it's almost like a second home to me since we've stayed there so often. In August 2006 I started a fridge swap at POP and felt like we had to stay there each visit to use my own fridge. Now that the values all have fridges and my swap is done after about 5-1/2 years it'll be nice to stay somewhere new!

And since the LM rooms are opening only a few weeks before we arrive the rooms will be so new!

When I booked POP last month AoA wasn't available with the free DDP. I was reading a thread last night where someone mentioned that AoA was now included. Yippee! I jumped on the deal and now we are all set for AoA in the fall. :cloud9:

It'll be nice to stay somewhere different as we have stayed at POP our last 6 visits and 7 out of our last 8. I know my DM and DD12 will enjoy the change as well.

Only thing is when we stay at POP I always know where I want our room. I'll have to read through this thread and the info that appears after the first rooms open to familiarize myself with the layout.

And as long as the Generation Gap bridge is still up we can always walk over to visit our old friend-POP!

Can I say once again, how excited I am to get one of the non-Family Suite rooms? Yeah for me!:woohoo::yay::dance3:

(I'm also looking forward to reading info about the food choices at AoA once it opens and adding info to my 2012 Snack Thread)

I set my printer on landscape so it would print the whole image. Is your cutting the image off ? Also maybe try checking what size paper your printer is set to. On my printer I have to click preferences and then click off portrait and go onto landscape. Hope that helps some.

Thanks, but I tried landscape and it still doesn't work.

I'm not sure. I think it has something to do with the picture opening up in like a slideshow form but I know. That is why I posted the link instead of just posting the picture because I could not get it to save no matter what I did. I even looked for the picture in the google image search and I did not find it.:confused3

Well, I'm doing it in a round about way. I took a photo of it with my camera off of my PC screen (you have to use 'museum' setting or something like that so you don't get a glare off of the glass). now i'll just upload the photo to my pc and then print the map out. May seem complicated, but it works like a charm. Thanks for your suggestions girls.

You are flat out awesome!!! That is so great. Thank you!!!

That's not bad at all. We're in LM, also. and .25 miles is like 2 city blocks; that's not far to walk.

Are you bringing a roll away cot? If not, Values don't have them and I doubt it would fit anyways. But you can fit an airmatress. But if you have a wheel chair, then it may not fit either. (I'm talking about the Little Mermaid rooms.)

I've heard that you can rent a roll away for $15.00 a night at POP and AoA is a little larger in floor space than Pop, so it seems that you could rent one for the LM section if needed. What you can't do is use one to put more than a fourth person in the room (over age 2 or 3). But we're just having 3 in our room. :dance3: But, maybe I better make sure about this before the trip.

I was planning to stay at Pop next January but AoA looks very cool, and I'm thinking I may end up changing my mind.

My main concern is the distance between the LM rooms and the main area, but in the grand scheme of things, it's nothing compared to all the walking in the parks, haha. Plus I probably won't even make the walk more than twice a day! :thumbsup2

We'll be in a Lion King suite. I am liking the looks of Building Six. I'll be happy with either but a lake view out the window would be nice:)

The LM rooms do seem a little far from the Main Building. If there are no mobility issues though, it seems that the walk along the path could be a nice one. I've always worried about distance from amenities for every resort stay. Yet we've never found it bad anywhere. It's always a little more pleasant to be closer to the main building, but you also get the perks of a quieter area during busy times, so I imagine there is benefits and drawbacks to both.

Looking at the map, if you were to walk the path along the parking area to building 8 I would imagine it is 5 or 6 minutes. That wouldn't be too bad coming from the bus. :)

I am also a little surprised to say the pay phones in each building. I only remember those being in the main buildings when we've stayed at Disney. Is that new or have I just missed them on my other trips?

I took the plunge and booked us today! Nov 15th-21st in a LM room. I am hoping that FD follows the pattern of past years and ends the Thursday before Thankgiving, and that AoA is included!

I didn't realize that's what your SD was for. What a great idea. Please let all of us on the disABILITIES! board know what the dog says about the BC treats. I hear SD dogs who are trained for this function are REALLY sensitive to identifying extremely tiny trace amounts which is so great for people who have dangerous reactions to extremely miniscule amounts of allergens.

Yup, Chef TJ is at GF. I tried twice to meet him at 1900PF for breakfast but he wasn't there. We finally met him at dinner at 1900PF. He was WONDERFUL!!!!

I'll definitely post more details about AoA dining and chefs when I've got it (I won't publicly post contact info but you know what I mean).

Links to photobucket would probably be easier since email is much more limitted for capacity. Thanks again!

I'll definitely post more details about AoA dining and chefs when I've got it (I won't publicly post contact info but you know what I mean).

Links to photobucket would probably be easier since email is much more limitted for capacity. Thanks again!

Tried to pm you back last night but the boards were down. I will paste and copy my links from photobucket and include them in my PM .

I will have to do a TR and include a bit about our SD and what he does. I had some crazy person start trouble with me about him a couple years ago. But meh, I will just let the mods handle it if it happens again. Hes great and even checks our hotel rooms on the road. Last year he found a PB cup wrapper under a mattress cover! He found some trace contaminants in food we bought at the store and when we called the company they told me they didnt list for cross contiminaton. Hes a real life saver. ( and pretty cute to  , we love him)

Each theme will also have customized recreation. The largest resort swimming pool on Walt Disney World property, The Big Blue Pool in the “Finding Nemo” theme, features underwater speakers and a themed aqua playground – a first in resorts. The pool in “The Little Mermaid” theme will feature the “Under the Sea Orchestra” conducted by Sebastian. “Cars” enthusiasts can cruise on over to the Cozy Cone Pool to cool their engines, and fans of “The Lion King” will have a chance to re-create all of Simba's adventures as they romp around a playground right out of the movie
