I'm so upset that our stay isn't longer (10/2 - 10/7) after reading all of the acitivities I don't know how I'm going to fit everything I want to do into the short amount of time we are there. We're all TOO excited!!!!

...plan for a "non-park" day, just to enjoy all there is to offer at AKL!!! GREEN with envy over here :badpc: .....

Kimmar, when is your next trip??? We are planning on 1 night at Pop, and 5 nights at AKL. I have a question about the transfer, how "smooth" do you think it will go. Will Pop move our luggage?? OR do we need to handle all of that ourselves?? Do we need to "check - in" at AKL when we move over there? I guess if anyone know's how it all works, please let me know. I'd rather not spend a lot of time switching resorts.

Thanks everyone

Laura,

Thanks for the pics of the AKL. They bring back good memories. We will be returning in December.

I sent the video to my daughter at med school. I'm trying to get her in the mood for our trip.

Kathy

Where do you put the pack in play when your baby is going to nap or sleep and you and rest of family is still awake? Is our family of 5 going to be way too cramped with only one room? We're DH, myself, DS 13, DS 9 and DD 17 months.

Our family of five stayed in one room. At the time the kids were 10, 9, and 16 months. Of course, my DD could sleep through just about anything, and many nights we were all tired and ready for bed earlier than at home. We put the pack and play next to the tv and DD would sleep even if the tv was on with low volume. The boys could watch if they wanted. Also, the playground and pool area remain open, so one of us could take them down there while the other stayed with DD if we wanted. It's also nice to sit on the balcony and watch the animals in the dark if you've got Savannah View.

Looking forward to it.

Did you do any of the activities offered at the AKL such as the Art tour or the Culinary Tour?

:paw: AKL is fantastic and DH and my favorite resort!

The times that the Art and Culinary Tour were offered did not work into our day. Some of the tours are only offered on certain days of the week. The days can change due to staffing at the lodge. The best way to plan a tour is upon arrival find out what tours are offered when and if possible plan your day around that activity.

We did do the story time around the firepit. That is not at all a children only activity. The night we attended they had only a handful of kids. The rest of the chairs and gound space was filled with adults. The CM tells about their birth place in Africa and about their family and customs. They answer questions and only then do they start telling stories. Depending upon the goup attending and the questions ask it can be very educational as well as entraining. We really enjoyed it.

During our stay we had dinner at Boma's, excellent and fun. We also ate at The Mara, good food and quick. We shopped in their large and extensive store, and did the sunset safari with the dinner and wine parings at Jiko's. I am currently working on a trip report. :earsgirl: You will have a fantastic time, I am certain of that!

I see by your signature that you have stayed concierge twice at the AKL.
If we are able to request a specific room location from the Concierge staff. Which area would you suggest we ask for?

I would request 5th floor, non-smoking, Zebra trail, main Arusha Savannah. That is were we were placed this visit and we loved it. Last year we stayed on the same floor and savannah, but on Kudo trail. It was very nice and we saw a lot of animals, but the Zebra trail had many more animals, at least during our visit IMHO. :paw: :goodvibes

I agree with Angel16. We have stayed on the Arusha Savanna, Zebra trail three times (concierge level twice). This is the side of the Lodge where the pool and restaurants are located.

wow! i have just read the whole 71 pages, thankyou everyone for a wonderful thread, not only informative but gives you a really warm fuzzy feel about AKL. We are not returning to the world until september 2007 (from the UK) but we are already starting to plan. We will be visiting for 21 nights and plan to do first half (10/11 nights) at a moderate (probably CSR) followed by the remainder at AKL in a savannah view.

I'll be keeping this thread bookmarked to keep me going until our trip
