Question: If we got a room in the Giraffe Trail area, would the 'inside' (facing the pool) rooms still be considered std rooms? Also, if we got a room on the top floor (would that be the 4th floor?) in that section, could we possibly see any animals from there??

I'm not positive but I believe they would be considered pool view.
I think if you were on the 4 or 5th floor you *may* be able to see animals past the pool, depending upon how tall the trees are etc.
from rooms 4018/5018 and higher.
here's a resort map if it makes things easier.

Going to AKL concierge in a little over 3 weeks and I am wondering if anyone recieves a Welcome package from AKL concierge prior to them going? I remember the last time we were going we recieved a Welcome package but we didn't recieve it this time. I am wondering if DU received it and never sent it to me??

Very anxious in going wish it was tomorrow:hyper:.

I have stayed at AKL CL once and am going again in a little over a month:Pinkbounc I have also booked a February trip...I have never received the packet, although I have heard of others who have - usually people who have made reservations way ahead...

I communicate with AKL IPO via email so I go right ahead and start with my requests as soon as I make my reservations! For example, I'm already booked on a Sunset Safari and Sunrise Safari for my early February trip and have PS at California Grill and Citricos::cool1: (I've never booked a trip more than about 100 days ahead...)

Check the Lounge Lizard thread if you need the Concierge Phone # or email address:wave:

Thanks. I still had the email address to AKL conciege from my previous stay and I have (like you) booked our sunrise and sunset safari (yahooo) and California Grill. This was done 90 days out. I just wanted something in hand to get me more excited them I already am for our upcoming trip to WDW/AKL.

With AKL concierge since our last stay (2-3 yrs ago) they have been calling us on our wedding anniversary and my DH birthday. We loved these calls from them, but it also made us guilty that we were going to another resort (we are DVC members) instead of AKL. This time we are using our points plus cash for this resv and are very excited to go back:bounce: :bounce:.

Just returned from the AKL CL on Nov. 8. We were there for eight days. I talked to a server in the lounge about some of the recent changes. She said there is a global concierge (?) trying to make the lounges at all the resorts the same. They now only have five cordials at the Lodge. They did away with my favorite, Amaretto, and one other (I'm now sure which one). It seemed that most of the offerings were the same every day. When I was there two years ago, there seemed to be several different offerings each day.

Turndown service was very spotty. The first night only one bed was turned down and they did not leave any chocolates. The second night we were in the room when the mousekeeper came in. I requested that both beds be turned down every night. That worked for two nights, then only bed was turned down.

I just wanted to say that we had a great time at the AKL. After spending all day at the parks, it's like visiting another world. The atmosphere, the cast members, the smells and the food -- what more can I say. We can't wait to go back!

What is the contact info for AKL IPO? And  what does IPO stand for? Informal Pig Out? Icky Pointy Ostriches?:p

Thanks, #1HockeyMom! Oddly enough, I found your AKL info on a different thread later in the day. Can't wait!

We returned from AKL on October 22nd. We did not get a welcome package. However, the planning time was during all the hurricains. I called IPO and ask if one could be sent. I was so happy I did. The package is so loverly, the stationary is beautiful and they include a map of the hotel. It just made the waiting for our trip to start a lot more enjoyable. If you haven't received one, give them a call and ask for one to be sent. They can also e-mail a questionair if you need for your likes and and dislikes in the room.

Hope you have a wonderful trip. Can't wait to return:wave:

KIM............... I'm SOOO far behind at work and with my class, that I'm wondering if I'll ever get caught up and be able to sit and do a proper report! But, since you are patiently waiting for some news on AKL, let me just tell you a bit. IT WAS FABULOUS! I would stay there again in a heartbeat, and this is coming from a WL lover. From the moment I walked in I just knew it was going to be different, and it was, but very special. The check in was easy, no long wait, and although we didn't get the request (close to the elevator for a medical reason, and Zebra Trail), we weren't really disappointed, and the savannah view was incredible. We were on Kudu Trail, and I have some really nice pictures of the animals from my balcony. We loved the room, and they have a nice touch I wish the WL would add to their bathroom area, and that is a shelf that runs the width of the double sinks. So nice when you have tons of things like lotions, creams, deodorant, etc, for 4 people! The actual tub/potty area was a bit smaller than WL, but workable. There was a nice sized fridge in the room, and we unexpectedly got bunk beds, which worried me since both my boys are over 6', but they fit in them just fine, and were really happy with them. I was a bit taken back that you had to walk outside to get to Mara, but honestly, the walk is so nice, it's a beautiful covered path that passes the pool, and it's actually very nice to go out there and take a little walk. Mara was fabulous as food courts go. Nice selection of foods, and very big. My DH especially enjoyed their selection of fresh fruits since he is on a healthy diet now. My DSs enjoyed the junk food like the pizzas and the nice sized breakfast plates (they are NOT on a healthy diet!). Boma was so nice, and the food was just beyond description. I cannot tell a lie, we did try to get our reservation switched to spend the last 3 nights at AKL, but could not do it. So we moved over to our first love, WL..........and that's when the nightmare began!

Thank you for posting your trip report! I am so glad you loved AKL! Would love to hear about the rest of your trip when you get out from under that laundry and those lesson plans!

...from one WL Vet to another, I won't tell if YOU don't!:teeth:

Now I GOTTA check out yer WL report....:(

Does anyone have an email address for AKL or fax number? I had a housekeeper compliment I wanted to send and can't find any info!

Thank you! It's a COMPLIMENT...not a complaint. I don't think I'd bother emailing a complaint unless it was major. People are so rarely thanked for doing well!
