Hey Angel,
Were you concierge? We had a standard savannah view. The room was absolutely beautiful from turn-down but all that was done extra was the stuffed animals my daughter had bought were put around as decorations- really cute. Just wondering.....

Thanks Angel and SCohen! I think I'm definitely going to try it. We are not staying concierge (unless they upgrade us for free, and I don't see that happening:teeth: )
since this trip has already gone WAY over budget. But DH said it sounds like a great idea, so I will request it. Oh! Do you just call the front desk to request it in the morning?

DID YOU SEE MY COUNTDOWN PEOPLE?????:earseek:

So you are Sweet Angel, so you are! How long are you staying? Have you stayed at AKL before? I'm so excited I just don't know how I'm going to get thru the next 4 days of work! :hyper:

I've never stayed at AKL before. We'll be there from 11/7 thru 11/11 when we leave for our Wonder cruise. I'll have my mickey head on my fanny pack if my BF and DS will let me out of the room that way!

So.............I should look for a woman with a Mickey on her fanny pack and two embarrased boys??::yes:: I'll look for you. I will have my lime green ribbon on my purse, bag, whatever I end up carrying. And I'll be with DH, and 2 6ft DS! See ya there!

I will apologize upfront for this stupid question:
Can I do turn down servie in a non CL room--We are staying Savanah view??

Thanks

Chasing.............
That's what I've been told, you can request it no matter if you are conceirge or not. I'm definitely going to try it out. Sounds so nice.......:p

We stayed in standard savannah room and had turn down service. I requested it when we checked in. We stayed at OKW for 5 nights and AKL for 2. The first night at AKL they were unable to do turn-down because of something to do with the maid.....I think she was out. I found a gentleman in the hallway with a maid type rolling cart and asked if he had the card that the maid gives you. I told him that I had requested turn-down but the front desk had called up to tell us that it couldn't be done that night and that really I was more interested in the chocolates and the card than the service itself. He asked what room we were in and he would search for the items and come by in a little bit, Disney magic at its best. Unfortunately our smoke detector went off at that point and we had to get maintenance up to fix it. They came up and fixed it and a few minutes later it went off again. So I was out in the hallway to escape the noise, heading to the front desk to let them know it was going off again when I saw the dear man again. I told him not to worry with it because it looked like we were going to have to move, but that I really appreciated his willingness and generosity. Maintenance came out and completely changed out the detector, so we ended up staying in our room after all. The next and final night we had turn-down.

Our first night started off kind of sad..I had so looked forward to staying at AKL. The smoke detector kept going off and I couldn't get the beautiful card that I had heard about (I am a scrapbook fanatic) from the turn-down maid. I was sitting on the bed crying and waiting on the maintenance people to come back when my wonderful husband pointed out that I was at DisneyWorld in one of the coolest hotels imaginable and that they were going to fix the problem. And they did (very quickly I might add), and I did get the chocolate eventually and I did get my card eventually- and I also got a whole new perspective on how I need to value the important things. Sometimes it just takes a smoke detector to make you value the real things worth valuing in life!

To All with questions - Yes, we did stay concierge

Scohen, Tig-girl, sweet angel and all with questions - Yes, we did stay concierge. However, I don’t feel that it had that much to do with it. There were other people-staying concierge on our Sunset Safari that had not gotten towel animals or other surprises.

We were there for 6 nights. The first night we did not receive a turndown at all. We were told that turndown service could be anytime between 5:30 – 10:30 PM. I requested an early turn down after that because my DH and myself were back in our room relaxing most nights by 9:30. We had two stuffed animals sitting on our table and neither the maid nor turndown service ever moved them or used them in any creative way.

We all have to remember that not all the support staff has the knowledge or skill to make the towel animals. I was very surprised and pleased to receive our extra surprises. But, I do not expect it on every trip to AKL.

I wish we were returning with all of you. ::yes:: AKL is in a word “Fantastic” the resort is very beautiful. The scent when you enter makes you feel you have just walked into an exotic resort in Africa. From the time we pulled up to valet to our last moment as we walked out the door we were filled with wonder and a feeling of being part of a family. Everyone was very friendly and tried to fulfill you every possible thought or desire. The savannah is laided out to truly enjoy the animals. From your savannah view the animals are so close.

Be sure to try Boma for either breakfast or dinner. We also ate at Jiko as part of our sunset safari; it was superb.

We are looking into returning in May and again after Thanksgiving next year. If I can be of any help let me know. May you all have a wonderful trip with much pd and surprises.

Angel, I am so glad you had a wonderful trip! I knew you would! I love reading your descriptions... it almost takes me "home"!

Debbie

Debbie, Awww You are part of the reason I was there and stayed concierge:hug: You really helped to convience me that we had to stay CL. Gosh, now DH and myself are going to plan a May trip (for the LL meet) and a trip with friends after Thanksgiving next year. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc
Thank God DH fell in love with WDW and only wants to stay Cl in the future.

Of course it helped that I told him I would have everything paid for in advance of each trip:duck:

Don't forget... lounge lizard meet in July at AKL! You NEED to be there! I am really glad you enjoyed yourselves! I need to go back and try out the sunset safari! For what we spent at Jiko for one dinner, I can't believe we didn't do it!

Good Evening All! Just checking in to say hello, AND to see my wonderful, beautiful countdown timer!:Pinkbounc

We are almost there! Can you stand it?????:teeth:

I'm having a hard time thinking of anything else...not a good thing when I'm at work.

Ahhh, who cares? It's almost vacation time!

I hear ya! It was so hard to concentrate on work stuff when all I wanted to do was get online and look at menus, plan my park strategies, go over my last minute packing lists! But NO, there I was at work trying to pretend I was interested,,,,,,,,,,,,,and I wasn't. And heaven knows if anyone comes into my office, they are hearing about the AKL. I'm sure they are just so sick of me by now that they can't wait until I leave. Ok, time to go do some laundry now and hit the hay. Morning will be here before I know it. Three more work days to go! Catch you tomorrow evening if you are online.
