Its Not Fair

This post is very interesting. So, on Tuesday, July 1st, my DW and I were lined up at the front gates to DL approximately midsection in front of the mickey flowerbed and train station. We were about 4th person in line. Moments before they opened the gates, a man (single person -- not family) came barging through us (he did say excuse me) and proceeded to drive himself several more queues before entering the park and cutting a very long line.

I stood amazed and watched him essentially cut through all of these people to get to the front of the queue. My DW watched too and said "What a jerk."

As we walked down Mainstreet USA to get to Fantasyland to do EE and be the first person on the carousel. We saw him standing in line waiting to get the new pins, because apparently a very important parks pin release was happening. As we passed him by we both glanced at him and then I turned my gaze towards the castle and I said aloud "What a jerk."

Those pins only cause such a ruckus because Disney likes it that way. It's planned scarcity on Disney's part.
Exactly

Especially now with online resellers and buyers continue to support them, sadly never ending cycle for those of us who may want a pin or set that we like to keep for ourselves.

Thousands of the large plastic keys/pin were restocked on July 4th throughout the park.

I am also not a fan of the resellers. I am a local and often miss out on merchandise I want. That pesky job gets in the way and I can't just change my work day to be front of the line for something that comes out. I have had several things over the years I missed out on because they were never available in the parks when I was able to be there. Right now, there is a black hoodie for the 70th that I really want. I want an XL and there is only ever small or extra small in the stores. Been looking since the 70th started in mid May. A cast member says they run a bit small so the smaller sizes are not selling out the same way the larger ones are. I will just keep hoping for the restocks.

To clarify. They were not in the park on July 4. They were restocked on July 5. I don't know that there were thousands. The displays aren't that large.
The emporium had giant bins of them behind the counter and seemed to be getting constantly restocked. I'm not sure how many they restocked this shipment but I'd hope it's enough to last a while. They were still plentiful when I popped in on the 7th before leaving.

Now that keys are in stock, the shadow boxes are seeing some good turnover. I actually lucked out and swapped my Falcon pin for a castle pin from the shadow box, which I traded for the Hunny Pot pin I wanted (along with another Pooh pin). I saw the Hunny Pot pin in the shadow box a few times. I think the Partners pin would be really tough to get from the shadow box since it's the most popular, followed by the Castle, but it's all about right place right time. CMs said those two pins last for like a minute when they end up in the box. But there will always be little kids swapping in the "higher valued" pins because they wanted a different one.

I feel the pain! We’re not going again until October, and I doubt the keys will still be available then. And going through the rigmarole of getting a key from an online seller just doesn’t seem worth it. But maybe we’ll luck out!

I don't think Disney had any clue that the keys would go viral like they did. Shoot, look at the skeptical discussion thread on this board. I think they banked on the $50 bubble wands and $50+ Mickey popcorn bucks selling more than they are.
They are shipping the Mickey popcorn buckets off to Florida.

I wish there was a way when making the park reservations to be able to pre-purchase a key to pick up on your first DL reservation day. That way DL could manage the inventory and track 1 key per ticket. That way anyone who wants one can at least get one. If there are extras then that's open to all (although I am also disgusted with resellers but have felt that way for decades as an avid concert-goer. I will not buy anything from a scalper/reseller, period.).

Having said that, DL designed the key with all the unique pins so they are hoping some people will keep buying the keys to be able to get all the pins, so clearly this is on "Frozen" scale, in that they grossly underestimated the demand. For those who recall when Frozen came out (my daughter was 4 so I lived through this), there was almost no Frozen merch anywhere- no dolls, costumes, party decorations, etc. for many months and what was available would sell out immediately -and the movie came out at the start of the the Christmas shopping season. With millions of little girls dreaming of that Frozen birthday party and wanting that Anna or Elsa (in most case both) dress. I'll bet the Disney marketing person for Frozen got fired after that mess. Huge opportunity loss.

I know of a lady in merchandising who begged the company for more Frozen merchandise before the movie opened to no avail. I remember that they started the Anna & Elsa meet & greets before the movie came out and the lines were already 45 minutes long.

But in regards to the original post, if I had my way there'd be a special place in hell for resellers who buy up merchandise with the intention of reselling it at grossly inflated price to the true fans who they deprived of the chance to buy it at original prices. I have no problem with personal shoppers charging a fee to obtain a park item for someone who can't make it to the park themselves.

I am feeling your pain with a similar problem...I desperately want the Loungefly cars FLO backpack, have built my outfit around it and the one place that still had them just sold out...if I want it, I'm looking at $130 on ebay or other 2ndhand site...really ticks me off that this is how some people choose to make their living...when I sell stuff, I just want to get backwhat I paid for it , usually a little less, not gouging people.

So Iam looking at other options but it is HEARTBREAKING when you have saved and planned on something...

Oh, well, thanks for letting me vent...gonna put on my big girl pants now and get over it...I guess...cuz I'm sure not dropping$130 on a vinyl bag 😂🤣...no matter how cute it is!

Is this it? If so, I saw it at both Elias & Co and the Emporium today. I didn't look at WOD.
I saw a bunch of stuff that I haven't seen since it was initially released in mid May.

If I buy a magic key online at shopdisney will it work in Disneyland park?
Not sure what "magic key" you are referring to...i don't see the"interactive" key for sale at disneystore.com...and a Magic Key (annual pass) is available on the Disneyland site. I myself wouldn't risk buying the interactive key on ebay...you have no guarantee it hasn't been activated.

That is the one I want. I would totally try to get it today or this week, but I had to cancel my VGC reservation due to a family emergency. I may still try to go for awhile on Thursday for the actual anniversary.

I arrive on Sunday. If you don't make it Thursday, I'd be happy to get one and ship it to you or if you're local, meet up. We are staying until Saturday at VDH.

people like that just ruin it for me because they are so rude and feel it is fine for them to be so!

Oh bad Tink I am so very sorry about this! Everyone is always out to make a buck it seems! I was thinking of getting one for my young niece IF (big IF, they always cancel on me!), we go in December...she has heard about them and thought it would be neat, but I am afraid they will be sold out too. I hope the rest of your trip was wonderful!
