Disney's ALL-STAR MUSIC RESORT Family Suites Information & Questions

Ok, so I figured this was a good place to share my plan to get the best possible deal on the ASMu FS!

Cast of 6, 3 adults, 3 kids from 4-8
Target Date September 19-27, 2009 (flexible as long as we can limit the number of vacation days to 6)... 9 nights in the Suite.
Assumptions:
Rack rate for Suite: $184 per night, value season
Dining Plan Costs: $33.99 adult, $10.99 child

Now that the 2009 rates are out, I am planning to:

Book my package for the dates with DDP through CAA and exepct to get a 15% room discount...a savings of almost $300.

Wait for the (hoped for) 40% off codes in January-ish and have them applied in place of the CAA discount....a savings of about $750

Hope for Free Dining for that period, be on time to book that for the Suites...for a savings of a little of $1,200 for the clan of 6

Does this sound good? Any flaws in my logic. After all, I have only been searching the boards for a day, destracted by work occassionally!

Thanks all!

I didn't think you could get ANY discounts on the suites. Has that changed? I would love for it to be true. Has anyone stayed in a suite with a discount? (My apologies if I've missed a post with that info.)

Were you planning on the room discount w/free dining? Because I think you can only get one or the other.

Yes, only one is the plan...trading up (meaning down in price!) each time.

Based on my surfing of the site today, I found numerous people who indicated that they received all of the above mentioned discounts/offers on the suites. Not sure when it changed...but I trust it will hold true.

Just booked for Aug 10-16 at ASMuFS with exactly the same plan. I doubt we will get 40% or free dining for those days but with a bit of pixie dust a 30% off room should be no problem between now and next year.

Reserved the following yesterday through my CAA agent.

September 18 - 27, 2009
ASMu Family Suite
3 adults, 3 kids
7 day MYW, no add-ons
$2,942.58 ($3,223.11 through Disney)

with DDP
$4,319.04 ($4,599.57 through Disney)

Getting my deposit in this week and let the code watching begin!

Excited to be staying in the suite - especially with my Mother joining us :rotfl:

Also - my assumption above was wrong. DDP is $39.99 per day for adults - nto sure where I got $33.99 from - that would have been a $4/day drop from last year!

I am booked in a Family Suite for Thanksgiving week this year. I got the AAA discount of 20% off, so they are available, they just had limited suites that applied. I called 13 months in advance, so they still had plenty left.

Also, you can only get free dining OR the room discount, not both. However, check and see if a package discount would save you a comparable amount of cash.

Wow - I got 15% on a family suite in value season in January and you got 20% at Thanksgiving?? Seems kind of wacky! Good for you.

We are thinking of booking the family suite in mid-October 2009. How far in advance would you suggest making the reservation? Is 7-8 mo. in advance enough time?

Hi. I think it would be best to do it as soon as possible, especially if you hope to get a discount from AAA or some other package discount. I think there's only around 250 suites, out of the 2,100 rooms at the resort. I booked ours as soon as we knew our dates because I didn't want to be caught at the last minute.

You'll only have to leave a one night deposit if you do a room only, or $200 if you book a package with tickets, so if you can swing that now, then I would recommend it.

We'll be there in a suite in January - we can't wait to see what it's like!

Thanks for the advice. I'm paranoid, so I called and booked it today through AAA. My agents (who booked our previous trip) was like, you know you have over a year, right? Yeah, I know, I'm a paranoid disboards person.

Do they typically offer any discount on the family suite? Should I keep my eyes open or not get my hopes up?

Yes, we got 15% on ours. Here's the schedule for 2009:

Value Season: 15% off at Value, Deluxe and Deluxe Villa (Disney Vacation Club) resorts; 20% off at Moderate resorts and Ft. Wilderness cabins and campsites.

Regular Season: 10% off at the Deluxe and Deluxe Villa (Disney Vacation Club) resorts; 10%-15% off at Value and Moderate resorts and Ft. Wilderness cabins and campsites.

Peak Season and Summer Season: 10% off at all resorts.

I believe Mid-October is Regular Season, so you would get 15% off the room. If another discount program comes out for that time, your agent would have to see if it could be applied to your reservation, but it would negate the AAA discount. You can't stack them up, sadly. Plus there's only a limited block of rooms at each resort that the discount can apply to, that's why we jumped on the suite when we did, so we weren't shut out of the AAA discount.

Overall, I think the suite is a great value for what you get. It's a 2 room suite with a living room and kitchenette, plus two bathrooms for under $200 - what a deal!

Let me know if you need any other info!

October is regular season. I got 10% off through AAA, so I'm happy with that. We'll be taking my DD who will be 3 at the time and our new addition who will be just over 1. Having two rooms AND a kitchenette is going to be invaluable to us.

I'll keep my eyes open (who was I kidding that I wouldn't anyway!) but I'm happy with our price.

I'm sure I'll be posting a lot more questions as the trip gets closer!

Thanks so much!

I know, I even checked with the cm to make sure the price was right. I guess it was somehing to do with the fact that I reserved 13 months in advance. She also said that I was the first ressie for a fam suite for that week, so go figure.

If you want to get a AAA discount, do it as soon as possible. There are very few suites available for that discount, and they get snapped up fast. I tried to add an extra day 7 months in advance and was told they were sold out completely. Called again a month after that, and managed to get a recent cancellation. but had to pay rack rates for it.

We booked it on Friday. I got my DH to start reading the Dis boards, so he didn't think I was totally nuts for booking so far in advance. ;)
