Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend 2024

Looks like they did change up the courses a bit compared to January. I wonder if that will stay for next year or if that's due to construction.
I didn’t even realize until you said that we’re getting the tram tunnel only for the 10k. Which thank you god that think is a menace on wheels.

Going through Angels probably won’t be in the January course unless the other event isn’t happening next year. Which I doubt it.

Also I don’t think this is construction related tbh. Or at least not entirely. It looks like a lot of this is from Jan feedback. Despite my initial complaint of the return of the Santa Ana it looks like they did listen to some of the wheels feedback. Because we aren’t going up the hill around Hungry Bear. That thing was a disaster for wheels with how narrow the course is there.

Taking a glance now and looks like there are some substantial changes for the half, one of which might fix the mile 3 water station bottleneck? A bit hard to tell because of how small the map is, correct me if I'm wrong, but...

- Earlier entrance to California Adventure, same loop around the water and eventually goes backstage before returning, at which point you see the mile 3 water station, which I think is near PhilharMagic.
- Different path in Galaxy's Edge? Seems like less time there, I think you see the Falcon, hard to tell though
- Angel's Stadium is back! Was not available in January due to a dirt bike event and monster trucks, so it's a good sign that if it's available, they'll use it
Yeah the mile 3 water stop is now as we’re exiting DCAs entrance which is a wider area so we should have more room to get through.

Like I said above we’re entering at a different point I believe so we can avoid the hill at Hungry Bear. Which changes also how we go through GE. Which I’m estatic about. Going uphill straight for a half mile three straight mornings through GE was not fun on January.

After getting my initial complaint I am actually pretty happy with these maps. Because it’s obvious that rD didn’t just listen to the average runners but the wheels as well with our concerns about course points. And trying to get any race organization to listen can be akin to pulling teeth.

10k is also different, looks like they dip backstage in California Adventure and then back in, no loop around the water in DL. I think the net amount of park time is about the same but with this route you leave the parks after mile 5, for the January 10k you left around mile 4.6 or so.

Yeah I think the water part was taken out since unfortunately the Hungry Bear/Splash part is not a fun time when your on wheels. Partly the grade/partly runners with delusions of grandeur on how me and physics work and trying to outspeed the wheeled device.

And with how narrow that part gets if people aren’t paying attention the likelihood of someone crashing increases. So I think they just for everyone’s safety took out the parts that they now knew are extremely narrow/choke points.

Because otherwise I would think we would be going by HM for the 10k. Because ya know theme and all that.

I’m not going to deny I’m a little concerned about the map point around mile 5 of the 10k because you have runners coming out Toontown towards Tomorrowland and then you’ve got runners going the opposite way to exit the park part. And it should be wide enough to not have problems.

But that doesn’t entirely stop the concern.

Not sure if this is ok to post in here so apologies in advance, but is anyone going to the expo on Thursday that would be willing to pick up some of the merch for people coming in later? We don’t get in till Friday and we all know how crazy the expos can be…

How did I just now notice that the 10K course doesn't go by HM. What the heck?!
That whole area is now under construction with the HM queue and the former Splash Mountain. I think Critter Country is off limits too because of all of this, so they had to create a route around all that.

Plus again safety concern. Curious to see if it will stay the same once construction is done. But they listened to the wheels going by the loss of the team tunnel for the 5k so I’m hopeful cause going down the Hungry Bear hill at an 8 minute mile with the brakes on with people ignoring you is a safety hazard for the race.

Like I get we’re low on the level of most people’s safety concerns. But I would really like to keep the route that doesn’t increase my chances of crashing and injuring myself and someone else potentially because people think they know better than me to the point they will argue with a race official about what I can’t do.

(Fun fact that actually happened at the Jan 10k! Someone legit tried to argue with the bike guide I had as the rear wheels that they knew better than me on what I could do. This resulted in them getting yelled at by at least four different people including said bike guide.)

Sorry if this is posted somewhere in the guide I missed it, but where exactly do you enter to go thru the security for the corrals? Iam trying to figure out my walking path from my hotel and I can't seem to zoom on the maps...

During Jan there were two entrances. One off Harbor between two hotels I don’t know the name of and one off Disney way and Clementine. In general if you just follow everyone else on race morning you’ll get to security.

In the days of 3 or 4 Disneyland race weekends, the courses were slightly different for each race. For instance, Disneyland Half and Avengers went through Angels Stadium, while Star Wars and Tinker Bell did not.

I think we do go by the Falcon. Looks like we miss the Resistance base area.

They will fill out much more information in the guide. This was a "course reveal" according to rD social media, which is new. The guide usually comes out a week or so before the event. I like this and hope they keep it up for other races!

Yes, the entire area is super tight due to construction, and the path to GE by Hungry Bear is completely closed as well which also explains the course change.

That moment when your sitting here trying to run the math on how much time you need to allow for character stops along with your overall pace. Because the disability people require ETA finishes. And so you have to keep both of those things in mind. And you keep having to remmeber because your pace in the handcycle is so much faster than your chair you need to also factor in there being shorter lines than what you're used to.

(Handcycle and chair info is due tomorrow.)

To say the least the math has been interesting.

@DopeyBadger You made the runDisney Instagram Halloween Half video! You’re exiting the castle.

How fun! That running Maui costume has gotten a lot of good use. Just remade the Maui hook for a theater stage play for only $25 if anyone wants to replicate it (link). Lightweight and not really bothersome to run with, but this version doesn't light up. The light-up one probably cost me $75-80 to make (link). I did the graphic designs for the tank top and had Owayo print it for me (link).

Well this is interesting to note considering the timing of the race. I doubt they’ll change it now because of USATF certification. Guess it’s sort of insight into how much rD may or may not be told on construction progress. Since while I would like for that hill over there to stay away personally for safety. You have to wonder if it would have been kept if they maybe knew it would reopen pre weekend.IMG_9883.jpeg

This morning on the radio they were discussing the upcoming NFL KIckoff weekend and it again dawned on me that the NFL kicks off the same weekend as the race.

It's strange. I feel like I'm not even close to ready yet, but I also know that I should be okay. Training has been pretty good except for a missed run here and there, but nothing super serious.

I start the taper after this upcoming weekend's 10 mile run.

How is everyone else's training coming along? Or not coming along the case may be?
