Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend 2024

Is anyone signing up or heard about sign ups to work Race Weekend?
Under California law, runDisney cannot use unpaid volunteers for race weekends. They must be paid. This change went into effect some time in 2017, I think but that was also the final year of west coast races until this year, it's been a very long time.

The current market capitalization of Disney as a company is $170.98 Billion. You volunteer to help a local race that is raising money for a cause. If you work for free so that 79th richest company in the world can make more money, you are not volunteering, you are being exploited. At least they used to give you a free ticket at WDW. Now I can’t think of a single reason why a person would give unpaid labor to Disney.

They also gave free tickets to Disneyland to race volunteers, including fan costume groups such as the 501st for Star Wars races. Obviously, they no longer give free tickets and people decide if they want to work for a few hours to hand out water to people running a race.

Yes, they used to provide lunch and a free ticket to the parks (a parkhopper). I used to love volunteering.

Now they use staffing companies to hire people to assist. They contacted me last minute for the Return of the DL Half in Jan 2024, as I had signed up on the interest list. The process to being added via the staffing agency was difficult. They paid $26/hr and tbh, it was overstaffed at the last day of the expo, but better than understaffed. I was hired as an extra. No lunch, only 30 min unpaid lunch and 2 breaks.

Considering it's coming up, I'm surprised I haven't seen any advertising for positions yet, so I'm afraid it's going to be the same grueling process like in Jan 2024.

Thank you. It's interesting to learn what their process is now.

Hi, happy Friday!
I have separate registrations for 10k and the HM.. (telegram notifications worked!)…

Have you ad any experience on how to make those valid for the Challenge medal?

I’m thinking on keep watching the alerts and sign ip for challenge if it pops up and later ask rD for the refund of the individual registrations but they might have issues with that…

TIA

I think your plan to sign up for the Challenge if it becomes available and get refunds for the two separate registrations is the only way to accomplish your aim. Historically, they haven't combined separate registrations into the challenge.

What Novatrix said. If you are able to snag the challenge through a Telegram alert or through a charity, runDisney will refund you the cost of your 10K and half marathon registrations (I believe on a Disney gift card) minus a fee (which I believe is around $45 if I remember correctly). That seems to be the only way as runDisney has been consistent that they will not honor the challenge if you sign up for each race individually.

I didn't know this was a possibility as I also snagged my 10k bib this morning and am registered for the half. If I am able to pick up a challenge bib do I request the refund thru Rundisney before race weekend or at the expo?

As someone who love the version NBC Haunted mansion I was worried that since I wouldn't being getting to the parks right away when they opened for this weekend, it seems that since they are only doing virtual queue, no lightning lane currently that there so far has been openings after the drop and not instant sell out like when they did GOTG in WDW. I was always slow on those so this makes me very happy!

Id say before and ASAP. That way RD might be able to re-release the separate bibs for other people. I’m not sure they’d do a refund that late.

Thanks yes that's kind of my thought process as well. I'm hoping to pay the difference obviously since they don't do refunds.

The overlay is the best! I’m so excited it’ll be there for us!

-me being torn between being excited that I was right that we have the 5k/10k are the same because there’s not much ways to vary it and getting to actually go through Angels and being annoyed at the return of the Santa Ana-

Looks like they did change up the courses a bit compared to January. I wonder if that will stay for next year or if that's due to construction.

Taking a glance now and looks like there are some substantial changes for the half, one of which might fix the mile 3 water station bottleneck? A bit hard to tell because of how small the map is, correct me if I'm wrong, but...

- Earlier entrance to California Adventure, same loop around the water and eventually goes backstage before returning, at which point you see the mile 3 water station, which I think is near PhilharMagic.
- Different path in Galaxy's Edge? Seems like less time there, I think you see the Falcon, hard to tell though
- Angel's Stadium is back! Was not available in January due to a dirt bike event and monster trucks, so it's a good sign that if it's available, they'll use it
