Disneyland ½ Marathon Weekend~2012 Check-in!

I decided to run 13.1 miles this morning. It's my 40th birthday and thought why not.....start my day off with a 1/2 marathon run. The last little bit was tough but I did get through it. Feeling sore and tired right now and just wondering for those of you that have run this race before, do you freshen up and then go to the parks afterwards or do you make it a pool day and head to the parks in the evening. A pool day is sounding really good right now!

Good job! Today was my 50th and we went on a river cruise/brunch then to the fruit markets for some fresh fruit. Was going to run when we got back into town but at 86 degrees I just couldn't get up the energy to go.

Countdown post!!

THREE WEEKS TO GO!!:dance3:

Did you catch that? ;) I said THREE WEEKS!!

Ran 10 miles this morning and I feel awesome. I officially know that I can do this! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Yea! I'm getting excited too. I'm ready for my coast to coast. I did 7 miles today & thinking 9 miles next week instead of 3 (following Goofy Galloway plan) so I'll have that taper week. :)

I'm getting excited too! I am somewhat nervous because my longest run has only been 6 miles since my half marathon in May :worried:

I am probably going to do a walk/run combo and just enjoy the course, not worrying about time or anything like that. That is what I did when I ran the Princess Half and it was a great choice. I had so much fun!!

Freshen up and head to the parks! First year I had to leave hubby on ice packs in our room, so I headed over by myself, roamed around and enjoyed things he didn't really care about, then he joined me later that evening. I really enjoyed it.

We always stay until the parks close on our last day at DL, so when we run the half it just happens to be the last day for us at the parks. I've made it each time!

I'm not running this year due to us going for our daughter's grad trip in June. I will miss it! Good luck to all!

I am scheduled to run ten this weekend. I have been running all the way with a tiny bit of walking. I tell myself to run after mile 7 but the mile goes by and I refuse to walk. Then the same thing happens at 8. So the dilemma continues between alternating a run/walk or just going for it!

Question...do any of you listen to music while you train and will you listen to music for the race(part or all)? I imagine that there is a.lot to listen to but it would be nice to have a little inspiration when I need it.

I do a run/walk dirtying the races but it doesn't usually work to well because of the excitement and just go by how I feel.

I do listen to music and podcast while I train but I don't during the race just because there is so much to listen too.

Last year I ran without music and after we left the parks and before we hit Angels stadium, I was seriously regretting not bringing my iPod. I really struggled during that middle section for motivation. I felt like we'd been sent out to an industrial area to die of runner's boredom. IMO, there wasn't a lot there to keep me entertained and I needed more than what was around me. So I will be bringing my iPod along "just in case". But I have no plans to use it at any points that we're in the park or the stadium!

I tend to run 10:1 (run 10, walk 1) however like someone else mentioned in an earlier post, I get so caught up in the excitement around me that I seem to not do that on my races. What I find myself doing instead is walking at the water stations. I'm a little worried about this race since it's my first 1/2 and worried that I will go out to fast and just die towards the end. I do run with music as I feel it helps me get through the tough parts. I usually only run with one earphone in so I can hear what's going on around me. Will probably keep it off while we are in the parks but plan on turning it on once we are out into the streets.

At the beginning of every race, I repeat over and over in my head, "Go your own pace, go your own pace, go your own pace." It is way too easy to get caught up in the crowd around you! But if you start out too fast, you're going to regret it. So try to just stay at your pace and don't worry about the people around you! Easier said than done, I know, that's why I have to tell myself over and over again to keep at my pace.

If you are running by yourself, I would suggest music for the middle part of run. It is boring through the industrial. You can always have an ear piece in only one ear. When I run with a friend/s I tend not to sue my Ipod, or if I run with my husband. He has ton concentrate too much! But that's what he gets for not training. :rotfl2:

Good advice! Thanks

2 weeks go to :cool1:
Last long run was today and it went pretty well.
Taper starting next weekend :thumbsup2

Hope everybodies training is still on track....

I was planning on running this race as my first half-marathon. It is the whole reason I started running back in January. Unfortunately, I tripped over my flip flop on Thursday and sprained my ankle (2nd degree). I am so disappointed that I most likely won't be able to run. My husband is still doing it and my kids are doing the kids races, though.

Good luck with the run everyone! My wife and I were seriously considering, however her birthday falls that weekend and we just ran a half last weekend in Vancouver.

Running through the park sounds like so much fun though, maybe next year I can convince her that running on her birthday is good for her. ;)

I know! I'm so excited. Knee was giving me a lil problem this am so I rode bike instead of run...wanna baby that thing if it needs it riht now!

So sorry to hear you hurt your ankle. That is a runner's worst nightmare...getting injured before the race. Maybe you can attempt to walk it?:confused3

Thanks- I am actually surprised and please with how I am healing. I am walking with no crutches and an aircast right now and hope to take the cast off tomorrow. Perhaps walking is still a possibility!
