Disneyland ½ Marathon Weekend~2012 Check-in!

Very, very true. I loved that Nike ad that run during the Olympics showing the overweight kid walking that said simply "Find Greatness." I signed up for the Disneyland 1/2 in 2011 to get that medal. But I've learned along the way that it's about much more than the medal.

One of my lasting images of the race last year came from a sweet old lady sitting in a wheelchair in Downtown Disney. Obviously, there were a lot of people with signs to cheer on their family and friends. But this lady held a sign that simply read "Hello Total Stranger. I'm Proud of You Too."

That's an awesome sign!

And I walked almost the entire course last year in just over 3 hours. Someone I met when I was getting my running shoes told me that if you make it to Angels Stadium without getting swept, then you're going to get the medal.

I have heard that too.

@Motoxprincess-I noticed more of a natural evolution from the 4's to 5's. I think the leap from 3 to the 5 would have been much more noticeable. It is ultimately all about what you are comfortable in though so if you feel the 3's are still comfortable then that would be the shoe I would choose.

@MotoXPrincess-I just switched to new shoes 10 days ago after running 13 miles in my old ones and feeling like I had no shoes on(no cushioning) towards the end of the run. I've run 10 miles plus some shorter ones in the new shoes and they are starting to feel fine. Just try wearing them as much as possible in the next little while and if they still don't feel right, just run in your old shoes. Good luck!

Just wondering if there are any massage or physiotherapists available at the race. My chiropractor applied kinesio tape for my hip which helped but not sure if I'd be able to do it myself...it needs to be applied a certain way. He said that some races have physio/massage therapist on site that can apply it for you.

As for training, I ran 10 miles on Sunday. It was a perfect run day.....overcast, not to warm so I felt like I had a great run even though there were alot of hills. I was thinking to myself it would be great if the weather was like this the morning of the race.

Good luck everyone with your training! We are almost there!:cheer2:

Just wanted to give a heads up ~ there are a couple of meet ups for next weekend that were planned on the WISH side. Friday is at Trader Sam's at 6:45. Saturday is at 4:30 in DTD. It's by the fountain on the tram side b/w World of Disney and Blink/Wet Seal.

See ya Saruday!

Something came up, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it anymore. I have to decide if I'm crazy enough to drive down Saturday and drive home on Sunday.

Hi! I just found this thread and thought someone may have the answer to my question. Did anyone start the race last year in the very last corral and remember about what time the corral started running? Do we really need to be in our corral at 5:15 if we are the last to run? Just curious! Thanks!

Where do you live? If you have been training for this then I say go for it! Is someone driving with you? You could nap on the way back.

Would you be coming by your self? It might help take your mind off things.

They sent the corrals off at 5-minute intervals last year - we were in Corral E and started at 6:20, so the last Corral (G) should go off 10 minutes later. This year it looks like the race starts at 5:45 and not 6:00, though. As far as getting there early...There were still people coming into our corral not too long before we started.

Thank you so much!!! I e mailed and phoned run Disney and neither would give me a straight answer. This helps a lot!

I prefer to head to the corral early do I can make sure I'm in the front. Every little bit helps.

I realized yesterday why I signed up for this. The last few long training sessions have been a real challenge. I've honestly been considering retiring from 1/2 marathons altogether if I accomplish the Coast to Coast at WDW in November. Now, during my session, I was able to maintain pace, but I've been feeling just a little off, or tired, or sore, or something. In short, it was much harder to get up and train than it would have been to decide to train tomorrow or the next day.

But for years, tomorrow or the next day never came as far as me getting into the gym. I've also learned that endurance is worth the price you have to pay. Yes, it's hard, but in pushing yourself to keep going, you stretch yourself beyond what you actually thought you could achieve.

So for those runners who may have to walk the course to finish, that's okay. Finishing the race is its own reward not that I mind having that medal placed around my neck. :rotfl:

I love that Nike video. It makes me tear up each and every time I watch it. I just want to run up to that kid and hug him so tight.

I didn't see that lady but I love that sign!!! I love reading the signs.!! Some signs really tick me off, though. When I ran RnR Arizona the first time, less than 1 mile in and there's a person holding a sign, "You're not even close to the finish line." Yeah...not motivating!!! :rolleyes2 My DD took a sign to the last RnR AZ I ran and the sign said, "Running Moms Rock" and lots of runners commented to her about it.

just wanted to jump on and say hello. Heading to DLR for our FIRST visit next week for DL half mary and my coast 2 coast medal!

fingers crossed for great weather!

Just saw this thread. Hello everyone! DH and I will be running the 1/2 with all of you. Just made some final dining plans for our stay. That pushed me off the edge - now I'm excited! We're going for our Coast to Coast.

Stay healthy this week and have a good run!!

Anybody going to have their LGMH during the race?
I might attach mine to my hydration pack :thumbsup2

It always seems like I intend to go to Home Depot to pick one up before a trip and it never ends up happening. This time I will really try to make it happen!!! If I see your lgmh I will make sure to say some encouraging words to my fellow disser!
