I have to say I am on your side on this one and was holding out all hope that it would be the Magic going to LA, and the Dreams taking over its route, that too me makes more sense.
However I was told in many PM's that Captain Henry was saying to a lot of people he gets the first ship and the Wonder is off to the West coast.
Now thinking about this with the Magic going through the Panama Canal four times to date and the experience of all those Panama and West coast posts of call you would think the magic would go.(Yes I know Panama pilots take the ship through the Canal and staff take orders, but my point is experience).
But the Wonder going is a clear signal that the Dreams takes over the 3/4 night cruises
When might 2011 sail dates (for either the Wonder or the Dream) be announced? And if the Dream is scheduled to set sail in 2011 (?February) what are the odds of that happening? I think I read that the Wonder (and maybe the Magic too) were delayed beyond their anticipated dates and that thewir maiden voyage had to be pushed back - yes?
I am currently debating if we should do a 4 night in April 2010 - in fact I had pretty much made up my mind - and now with this info I am wondering if we should wait for the Dream in 2011 - although I don't want to do a 7 night - the 4 night is perfect for us. So that is why I am hoiping to get some insight from the very knowledgeable folk in this thread.![]()
Why couldn't the Magic start doing the 3/4 day and the new ship do the 7 day both out of PC?
It's a possibility, of course. But my guess is that Disney is thinking in terms of $$. People will want to see the new ship... which means they'd probably be willing to pay more per day to do so. Not only can DCL cycle through twice the people in one week to "see the new ship," the difference in cost per day wouldn't be as much of a budget buster on the shorter cruises as the 7 day. I'm guessing they'll be able to charge the same for a 4 day on the new ship as they're charging for a 7 day on the Magic now... and people will pay it.
I am so thrilled about DCL here at home. It has been a long time coming. As to the fact there is no CC. I say I could care less. To me CC is a overglorfied pool. To me a beach is only a beach when there are waves I can at least body board in. So the fact there is not going to be a CC type place, (well at least that is the way it looks, but with Disny Magic you never know) will not make me not take DCL out of L.A. I like the fact that I don't have to fly anywere to get the ship. Just hop in my car for a short 20 min drive south and I am at the port. CC can't beat that. Also I am hoping for a March/April repo time. I will be on it. Just in Jan it will be could anywere north of Mazatlan probly so that means the last 4-5 days of the cruise will be cold, but I will be on if it is a Jan cruise, But I am crossing my fingers for at least late March
I doubt it, unless they will be bringing a new ship on line very early in 2011
I have actually read info from a Disney insider that they are already in the process of building a West coast version of CC in Mexico. We will have to wait and see.
Here it is fellow Dis'ers! It's all over the local news too.

Who would want to book the Magic for 3/4 days if the Dream does 7-day cruises? Not a lot of people - unless DCL was practically giving away the cruise. Why couldn't the Magic start doing the 3/4 day and the new ship do the 7 day both out of PC?
I agree with you about Castaway Cay. I enjoyed spending a few hours there, but it's just a beach.Well if that is true then at least there should be some waves to ride I hope. What I was getting at is I (and I know I am in the minority) do not need a stop at CC to fully enjoy a trip on DCL.
don't know if this has been posted yet. Sorry if it has
Disney Cruise Line' to Set Sail from Port of Los Angeles!
Disney Cruise Line announced today that it plans to reposition the Disney Wonder from its Florida base in Port Canaveral to the West Coast in 2011. The Company is working with the Port of Los Angeles to finalize a two-year agreement with a three-year extension option. The contract will be considered by the Port of Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners on April 2, 2009.
If approved, the new Disney Wonder sailings could generate more than 250,000 guests passing through the Port of Los Angeles over a five-year period.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said he is pleased to welcome the renowned family cruise line back to the Port of Los Angeles at San Pedro.
"Having Disney Cruise Line operating out of the Port of Los Angeles will provide a great boost to the local economy by generating business and tourism revenue in San Pedro and throughout the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area," Mayor Villaraigosa says. "The return of Disney Cruise Line to our port speaks volumes about our ability to attract world-class cruise lines to the area."
The addition of a new homeport for Disney Cruise Line is part of the overall expansion plan for The Walt Disney Company. Two new ships, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, will arrive in Florida's Port Canaveral in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
"We are looking forward to returning to the Port of Los Angeles and offering our special brand of family cruises on the West Coast," Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo, says. "Having a Disney Cruise Line ship based in this region is something families on the West Coast have wanted for a long time, and we're pleased to bring the Disney Wonder to Southern California in 2011."
Disney Cruise Line has successfully tested the West Coast market with two summer seasons of Mexican Riviera itineraries from the Port of Los Angeles. The Disney Magic cruise ship first called on the West Coast during the summer of 2005 as part of Disneyland's 50th anniversary and returned again during the summer of 2008. Disney Cruise Line has not yet announced the details of its itineraries for 2011.
"The return of Disney Cruise Line to the Port of Los Angeles is just one more reason visitors will come to Los Angeles to help our city thrive,"
Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Geraldine Knatz, Ph.d, adds. "The LA area is already home to Disneyland - it's a natural fit."

good video but can anyone explain to me how it will bring in 2600 new jobs to LA? that seems like a lot i would of guess a few hundred.i dont see how a ship that carries around 2600 people or whatever it carries can bring in 2600 new jobs. even if they are including the 950 workers onboard it still seems like a lot
