Disney Cruise Line plans to homeport Disney Wonder from Los Angeles starting in 2011, Seatrade Insider has learned. The deployment will come as the line introduces newbuilds in 2011 and 2012.

The Port of Los Angeles board will meet this week to consider an agreement for the ship at Berths 90-93 for an initial two-year period, from January 2011 through 2012, with three one-year options that could see Disney operating from Los Angeles until 2016.

The new agreement would give Disney non-exclusive preferential use of Berths 93A and 93B, and non-exclusive secondary use of Berths 90-92.

for both Magic and Wonder???

discus!!!

Interesting, thanks for posting,,, I think it means DCL can choose which beth of the ones quoted, as a preferential cruise line, Not that an extra ship will be going there short term, longer term anything is possible. It gets first shout, on the Berths 93A and 93B. Could bounce other cruiselines out.

I think this makes more sense than sending a ship to Europe full time. The Magic and Wonder could do in CA what they did in FL, one on a 7 day one on a 3/4 day. I don't think DCL could sustain a full time European market with what they charge. Not to mention it wouldn't be a huge market during the winter season. What I could see happening is Magic/Wonder West Coast, with the new ships taking over old routes and one of the new ships traveling to Europe one summer out of every few years. My opinion is not based on any reports or knowledge, just a guess. Feel free to dispute it...;)

It's the Disney Dream! I think we are going to run into the whole Palo/Palos pet peeve of many.

Thanks! "Dream" is what I thought, but some kept referring to it as "Dreams."

Now - if people would learn that loose is how your clothes fit after you lose weight - I'd be a happy camper! :lmao:

The economics of this do make sense to me, and I guess I understand why people would want to get on the new boat, regardless of where it was going. And sorry Andrew, I didn't notice your response to the question on the prior page. I guess it's just more wishful thinking, because I was hoping the Magic was going out west too. After all, it is the older of the 2 ships.

This thread was going fast and everyone is missing posts,

As others have said, and I confirm, if I haven't posted this before,on this thread, (know its on the Baltic one) The Wonder is the most profitable ship with two sets of cruisers each week, the decision is based on money!

I think an option is for the Magic to go to Europe for summer season only.

Same as 2010.

Winter months can go elsewhere, possible 10 /11 night Carribean also West coast via Panama Canal for thoose popular cruises.

Once DCL opens bookings for 2011, I think MANY people who booked the expensive Europe cruises will switch their reservations to something on the new ship. If DCL is smart, they will wait until after the final payment date of the earliest Europe cruises before announcing the 2011 cruises - but that means late winter 2010.

If you wouldn't go on the new ship because it does only 3/4-night cruises, how many people do you think would want to cruise on the oldest ship doing that route? Even fewer.

You can always do b2b cruises on the new ship.

The shorter 3/4 night cruises also appeal to new cruisers. With 2 new larger ships to fill, DCL must attract new cruisers. The 3/4 night cruises are a way for some folks to try out DCL without a hefty investment.

I would LOVE to see a 10/11 night Carribean, one that's not over Christmas and doesn't cost $18,000 for a family of 5! And I don't care what ship it's on, I would go! (as long as it's not $18,000 :lmao:)

I agree with this statement. That's how we got our first taste of cruising. We did our first 4 day with 6 other family members in 2005. That's how we knew we wanted to do a 7 day cruise the next time, which is turning out to be this May.

We are very experienced WDW Park people, but not cruisers (YET!:thumbsup2)
I think I feel a new addiction coming on....

I do not think people who are on 10/11/12 night cruises would swap to 3/4 night cruises, another reason why the the ship will be based on 3/4 night cruises.

If they put the first new ship on 7 night cruises, there would be an increased risk of your suggestion.

PIF dates for Europe are earlier however I have to pay up in January for July albeit thats a Cat 3.

I don't think I would like sailing on the West coast. There is no Castaway Cay and that is my favorite part of our Disney Cruises. Do you think there will be anything like that on the west coast at some point?

I just hope the prices aren't too much higher on the new ship for the 3/4 cruises. We like to do the 4 night, but I would do a 3 night just to see the new ship.

Can't wait!

I don't know if it is even a consideration, but I'd love to see possible or occassional trips to Alaska in the summer. Maybe alternating? Just an idea....:thumbsup2 Cruising Alaska rocks, we'd love to do it on DCL now.

CC cost a fortune to DCL to purchase, and they were lucky to close the deal at that price as there were other bidders and other lines interested. In this economy it would require a significant investment to try to purchase an island or dock that is easy to call into before considering a climate beach etc as good as CC. DCL is already spending $$$$$$ on new ships so I think their purse is empty, in this economy.

So I do not think it will be seen on the West coast, and of course not in the MED either.

Whilst they lost out, well actually pulled out of glacier bay, its always possible....to go to Alaska without it.

I don't think people who booked the 10-12 night cruises would want to cut back to cruises that short - but I think sticker shock will set in between now and final payment date for a lot of people. Once someone realizes they really can't afford the Europe cruises - the next best thing is something on the new ship.

DCL pulled their application for Alaska about a month ago.. So they aren't going there at least not before 2012..

I don't think it's even an option on the West Coast(a disney private island), those kinds of islands just don't exist out here like they do in the Carribean.

They aren't going to Glacier Bay National Park IF they go to Alaska, but there are other glacier areas where the ship could cruise.

The glacier bay contract was for 10 years, so they pulled out of that, whilst its an important place on Alaska trips its not the be all and end all.

It is possible for DCL to still cruise there, I say possible do not say they will
